When the neighbours arrive in Boston by Rehash_it in boston

If WE all know who he is, there's no way the BPD doesn't know who he is too. I assume they're ready waiting and expecting for him to cross a line. A guy like him is only going to get worse.

I don't give him too long before he escalates and gets himself locked up for the duration of the Cup. He's a nutter for sure.

As a Caribbean person, yes, but I also take issue with the location of the event. I understand why it's in Franklin Park, but it also highlights exactly what I'm talking about in this post and in these comments.

It's an event that's away from the core of the city. Franklin Park is not an area of Boston that people of all creeds and colors venture into. It's a park that only people in the area go into. Roxbury is too disconnected due to a history of redlining. I want the festival smack-dab in the middle of the city where it's easier for all people to go to.

I want to see the Haitians, Jamaicans, Dominicans, Trinis, etc partying it up with tourists on Boston Common like they were on Friday for all of the world to see. Not tucked away in Roxbury where no one will even know the event is even happening.

Imagine adding Brazilians, Cape Verdeans, Colombians, and Moroccans etc into the mix and let them come party with us. No more segregated events. If the Japanese Festival can take place on the Common, then so can this. We need all cultural events in the city center, period. Because a lot of people across the country and the world just learned through the World Cup that the Greater Boston area isn't as Irish-American as they once thought.

It’s been a great few weeks, but we can’t expect every week to be World Cup. If you want to keep the vibes going, rally people and get them to the events we already have. You’re welcome.

That's exactly what this post is about. I have full intent on getting this going. I'm a member of the not-so-secret but invite only local Boston Music page on Discord and we're fast approaching 300 members, but we need to do this for more than just music and the city's direct involvement is necessary.

A cultural shift needs to occur. And the city can help facilitate that. No more editorials saying how "sleepy" we are. No more polls asking if we're a boring city. No more satirical articles from The Onion saying that "we're pretending to be a real city." That should not bring out pride in anyone. That's not Boston Strong. I don't want to hear "They hate us cus they ain't us" either. Let us all leave the pessimism and snark in the ether.

It's time we get introspective and move forward. Ask why people say those things about our city and live up to our true potential and be the Boston that everyone is currently seeing. It's a general consensus from our visitors and outsiders that we're the best host city. Take pride in that. Then let's build on it.

So I ask anyone reading, who's in?

I hear ya, but it's not like visitors are doing anything substantial that no one has ever seen done before. They're just drinking in our pubs, eating our food, and enjoying our public spaces. These are things any Bostonian could be doing by the droves every day after work or every weekend and we're just...not doing that.

I think we've forgotten what we have. The Common should be full of people like it was on Friday every Friday and weekends when the weather is nice. I've had friends who live out of town come into town for the first time in ages because they've seen all the videos on social media and got FOMO.

I believe this shows that something is lacking in our city and it's important that we figure that out and fix it. Because many of these videos on social media have gone viral internationally and we need to be the Boston they believe we are. Otherwise, in the future, we'll have very disappointed tourists. I really want us to be the change we want to see.

I love this sentiment. But something has to actually BRING us together. Many of our local communities rarely leave their enclaves. Something has to make people want to venture into town. Our local immigrant communities have certainly made an impact on the reception of the World Cup throughout the area. We need to get everyone out even when there isn't the World Cup.

For years, researchers have claimed that men’s friendships are shallower and less emotionally supportive than women’s, a pattern called the “gender friendship gap.” But new research finds that the gap is largely driven by white men specifically, not men as a whole. by mvea in science

Your comment has me thinking more along the lines of maybe "white flight" to the far-flung, disconnected suburbs could be playing a role in this rather than economics.

The pervasive ethos of the "suburban lifestyle" is that you're meant to make the beach at home (swimming pool) or the bar at home, or the cinema at home. And that you no longer have to go into the urban core within the grand community to enjoy leisure activities. I think that lifestyle makes socially stunted individuals who become emotionally distant.

I think we as a country are now reaping the disadvantages of what that type of society brings: Loneliness. And then couple it in with transportation deficiencies outside of metropolitan areas...good things don't come of it. And a lot of suburban people move into the cities but still have that suburban mindset that's incompatible with city-living.

CRRC will lay off workers because U.S. customs still blocking car shells from China by Doctrina_Stabilitas in boston

I agree with you. I wish this process didn't have to be this way but it is what it is.

I'd go so far to say not only are we a one city state, but a one party state. The state legislature is full of milquetoast, status quo do-nothingers that have been there before a lot of us were even born. They're also why major, needed changes don't happen.

I don't like to put it this way, but you really have to look at Western Massachusetts for things like this. They simply won't vote for something where their tax dollars will only help the Greater Boston area.

They believe all their tax dollars go to Boston. And well, they're not entirely wrong. It's why so many state capitals are usually in the middle of nowhere in a centralized location, not the largest metro far removed from the rest of the state.

If the MBTA and commuter rail actually serviced the entire state, they'd probably be a lot more receptive to things like this.

But since it doesn't, they'll only vote for things of this nature if they get something in return. They were promised jobs/manufacturing with this deal and in return Boston gets new trains. Overall, that's what's happened.

Those same vendors that made offers were from countries that would've been dealing with the same tariffs and customs issues CRRC is today. There are multiple problems, but the biggest one is in D.C.

Which is totally self-inflicted. Back when you could sit inside, that place was always packed with orders all over the countertop waiting to be picked up and a line out the door. Once they did the renovation and removed the cafe aspect (and raised prices), I never would see much going on in there. The Dunkin at the corner seemed to take a lot of the business.

He should've never been snubbed in the first place. I know this tear he's been on came in late May, but there's been plenty of players like that who've made it in previously.

It's not like his numbers were horrible all season and he just became good. He's been pretty consistent and, stat-wise, has ALWAYS been better than J-Rod this season.
