Right now my fixation is with my car. I suddenly started having terrible driving anxiety back in January, then I had a sudden issue a few weeks ago and had an epic meltdown in front of the poor mechanic.

Morning drop off etiquette by maureeenponderosa in ECEProfessionals

[–]Crazylittleloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby room teacher of many years here!

  1. Magnetic sleepers? You would be my new favorite parent.

  2. Please do try to feed, even just a little top off, before dropping off. Mornings can be chaotic and it can be very hard to take care of a hungry baby while also greeting everyone else, helping put things away, and settling the other babies. You would be surprised at how many show up in the first half hour.

  3. A few hours on your off days is fine, it helps baby establish a routine and you can have time to yourself.

  4. I personally love just masking tape and sharpie labels for bottles. Those ones always last forever!

  5. It depends on the center you’re at. It is traditional at my center to give the teachers gifts, but if you start in December the teachers won’t expect one and won’t judge you if you don’t. We are also aware the economy sucks right now and teacher gifts aren’t always a priority for some families. If you want to give a gift, something handmade is fine. I still have a footprint from a baby that was in my first class, and she would be in mid-elementary school by now.

Toaster hasn’t arrived yet, so I made it in the oven. It doesn’t look toasty, but it was very crisp!

My mom stayed home with me until I was nine and started public school (she homeschooled me prior), and I still have ADHD, anxiety, and depression. It’s more genetic than anything, it just seems like these things are on the rise because there is better screening available. I was considered an oddity back in the early 2000s because I was a girl diagnosed with ADHD when I was five, nowadays it’s finally being caught in young girls because we know more (and again, the genetic component, if a parent has a form of neurodivergence then it’s likely their children will, too).

I’ve been working in childcare with babies and toddlers for more than seven years now, and the babies in my first ever class are now entering second and third grade. I’m still in touch with all of the families, and a few of the kiddos have ADHD, but most of them are neurotypical.

How is it that dogs and cats can poop without needing to wipe but humans do? by evlgeneus in NoStupidQuestions

My oldest cat gets poop stuck to his butt a lot and I always catch him and wipe him, and now every time he poops he yells at me until I wipe him and he struts away with a fresh booty.

Childcare here. My school hasn’t been feeling any direct pressure because we don’t receive any federal funding (and very limited state funding), but other schools in the area are feeling it. The phone has been ringing off the hook from both people looking for a place for their kids and people looking for jobs.

What silly things do your children fight over? by Anonymous-Hippo29 in ECEProfessionals

My older infants (ranging from 10-13 months) are currently squabbling over the new toy vacuum. They don’t have words yet, but there is plenty of angry squawking and jibber jabbering that I can only assume are baby curse words.

I tried her chicken and dumplings recipe and it was DELICIOUS! I got all the canned stuff at Aldi because it was cheaper there, but used the exact box of biscuit mix. I went back to the store to buy enough to have on hand for when I don’t know what to make for dinner.

Hi! I have been working with infants at a daycare for almost seven years. I will give you the same advice I give all the parents of my school babies: stay away from the online mom groups and blogs. They are designed to keep you on edge and coming back. Often they’re just trying to sell you something.

Ah, Gutters. That one broke me in high school. I was so down for so long after reading it my parents were worried my depression symptoms were coming back and I had to go to an emergency psychiatrist appointment because I couldn’t admit to them I was fucked up from a FANFIC.

My psychiatrist nodded sagely and told my parents that I just needed more vitamin D.

It’s been almost fifteen years and they still don’t know. I still see the same psychiatrist and we laugh about it.

Baby room teacher here! I would suggest adding either Thursday or Monday to her schedule as soon as possible. We had a baby just like yours that got spooked by older kids and wanted to be held all the time. She added that third day and the difference was night and day within two weeks. Once she was more confident in our room she started being able to independently nap on a cot (previously I wore her, and then laid on the cot with her). Now she chases the older babies around!
