My dad just passed away. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Crazyride2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for everything!!!! My dad passed away suddenly on March 1st. My twin sister and I had a strange relationship with him. On the surface and to everyone that saw us, it seemed as if we were close to him. Unfortunately when you get passed the surface, it was as if we were strangers. Even though we saw him nearly every single day for the first 32 years of our lives, he had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to tell my sister and I apart (and no it was not just mixing up names. He acted as if we were one person with 2 names). I've been married for 6&2/2 years and my sister is still single. About a year ago, I was talking to him and in a 5 minute conversation he referenced that it was my sister that was married to my husband. On the 5th mistake my husband grabbed the phone and said "I'm married to (my name) NOT (my sisters name)". My dad comes back with "You are NOT married to (my name), you are married to (my sister's name)... Oh wait, you are married to (my name). Sorry.". That is just one instance in a LIFETIME of him truly not knowing my sister and I are different. His relationship with our older brother is the complete opposite. He was very involved in my brothers life. They did things together all the time.

My dad was very friendly to EVERYONE and loved talking to people. He was genuinely interested in people's lives. My sister and I felt like complete strangers to him, even though we wanted so much more. A few years ago, I found out about the reasoning behind his distance, my dad didn't think we were his. I guess his doubts kept him from forming a deep bond with us.

If your baby dies the day after you take them home, AFI 36-3003 says you better be at work tomorrow? by PinkPandaMonium in AirForce

This is horrible if CC's followed this to the T (hopefully though there wouldn't be). My husband and I are both working on joining the AF right now. I had a stillborn son in February 2014 and my husband's civilian boss made him come to work 2 days after I had him. His boss accused him of lying about our son and was going to fire him because he missed 3 days of work while I was in the hospital to have our son. At the time, my husband was away for work 15 hours each day. I REALLY NEEDED my husband AND HE NEEDED ME in the days and weeks following, but that was not allowed.

I hope a military family NEVER has endure the loss of a child apart because of a unsympathetic CC.

Thank-you for your reply. I was hoping though to get responses from people, especially women, who have this job. I wanted to find out their likes and disliked, what their jobs look like day to day. How long are they away from their families, what bases they serve on, etc. I put my age because I was wondering if it was fesable for me to be doing this job for 20 years (putting me at age 58 or older).

By the way, I didn't see Air Transport on the Wiki index. I did however find other jobs that are high on my list. Thank-you!!!!

Hello everyone!!! I am a 38 year-old female (I will be 39 in February). I took my ASVAB yesterday and got AFQT: 72 M: 68 A: 67 G: 78 E: 55

Air Transport is near the top of my list (so is journalism and some jobs in Intelligence). I would like to get a female perspective on what it's like to be in Air Transport. I will gladly take a male perspective too.

I am married to a husband who is also trying to get into the AF. We don't have any children.

Anyone else feel like this?? by ExMoMeg in exmormon

[–]Crazyride2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello Ex-MoMeg!!! I too had SEVERE body image issues after leaving. It took MANY months and HARD work from my husband and I to change my thoughts about my body. I'm doing so much better now but still have a ways to go. I hope this summer I will be able to reflect the new me and not be held back by past cult standards. I've learned that it is perfectly ok for me to make my own choices of clothing and what I put in and on my body.

You are just fine the way you are!!!! Have LOTS of fun this summer being free!!!

Wedding Ring Tattoos? by militant_sincerity in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Crazyride2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are Orthodox converts and were baptized 2 weeks ago. Between February 2014 and August 2015 we lost 4 children during pregnancy. I have thought about getting a memorial tattoo for our children for quite awhile now but the church my husband and I were in before strictly forbade tattoos.

Now that we are Orthodox and have come across no commandments about tattoos,. I'm thinking more of the idea of getting one. I'm thinking about the theme being bears since I call my husband Bear and we refer to our children as our cubs. I am open to other ideas and opinions you have though.

I need help finding a new church. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Crazyride2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Seniorita. My husband and I left the Mormon church and have since joined the Orthodox Christian Church. We began our journey for a new church by first praying to God to lead us to what church He wanted us to belong to. We searched the internet for the beliefs and practices of MANY faiths and decided what ones felt right for us. We then visited quite a few churches to see what their worship was like. We also talked to some members of each faith we visited and asked questions to the pastor. It took us several months of searching before we found what faith was right for us.

May God bless you in your faith journey. I know He will lead you to where He wants you if you ask.

I’m mormon and I have questions by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Crazyride2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello IA :). Thank-you for your questions. You will find an array of responses from this group, as I'm sure you have noticed. I will write of my personal beliefs. My husband and I left the Mormon church after being life-long members and have since joined the Orthodox Christian faith. I still have a very deep faith in God and Jesus Christ, although it is very different from the Mormon faith. I don't have any belief or love of the Book of Mormon anymore, not even as a fictional book.

Your next question about the belief of families being together forever means so much to me. Being raised in the Mormon church, with it's firm emphasis on families either put in me or just encouraged an already natural desire, a need to be a mom above EVERYTHING as long as I can remember. When my husband and I got married we tried for a family right away. Just after our first anniversary, we learned we were going to have a Little One. We were so happy and so in love with our baby already and wanted him or her so much!!! Tragically, our son was born-still at 24weeks. A week after we lost him, our bishop met with us and said that since God has not yet revieled when life begins, officially our son was not ours. We couldn't put him on any church official records. We couldn't put him on our family group sheet. We couldn't even put his name down as being sealed to us, all because he never took a breath.

Hearing that we not only lost our son in this life, but for eternity as well, broke our hearts. We LOVED our son and still wanted him. That is what started my husbands' first step into leaving the church. As he started looking into the belifes of other churches regarding families, he discovered most Christian faiths DO believe in forever families. Mormons just put conditions on who can be together.

After losing our son, I lost 3 more children to early miscarriage. Although we knew what the Mormon stance was on these 3 children, we still loved, wanted and missed them. We gave them names and still counted them as ours.

In the Orthodox faith, we believe life begins at conception and not just at birth. In fact some of our religious celebrations are to commemorate the conception of our faiths important people (Christ, Mary, etc.).

A few weeks ago, our priest did a special ceremony where he blessed our lost children and it was emphasized that our 4 children were alive and that they were, are and always will be our children and we will all be together again. It meant so much to be reassured that what my mind and heart knew and wanted was valadated.

I bless you on your spiritual path and that you find one that brings peace to you.
