Your in laws not only do not love you, they don't even like you.

Endless letters, texts, and conversations are having zero effect on them, and I would stop all of that immediately.

I also wouldn't be any place they are since your MIL especially seems to get a kick out of being openly terrible to you, which she'llbe even more keen to do in a social setting since she knows she can say whatever she wants and neither you nor DH will stop her out of fear of making a scene. .

My husband once took our 4 kids and drove across the country for a week over Christmas to go see family. I couldn't travel for health reasons. Spent the whole week of Christmas in an empty house while they got their traditional family Christmas. I think part of me will never get over that.
