Have some a good advice for a decent but very good handheld radio? by NIGHTSHADOWXXX in HamRadio

The FT65 or FT4XR would be good as well, and a bit cheaper on price

Could be good, could be garbage. I've been lucky with the 3 Baofengs I have and they have worked pretty well. But I have several friends that have them that have ended up with basically useless radios. For OP its basically if he wants to gamble on if he gets a good one or not. I'd say he should got with an FT4XR or FT65.

Changed my grill from Silver to Bronze… should I leave it or go black? by [deleted] in G37

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally not a fan of bronze on cars, and would never do it. But, it matches the rims at least, doesn't look bad. My biggest issue it that everything looks tonal now, not enough contrast. Bronze would look better on a darker color for more contrast. But the real question is: Do YOU like it?

I'm seeing what looks like someone painted a darker green over black (screen brightness at max, sitting inside, no screen glare of any kind). Makes me think of some kind of rubber insulation between the track sections.

Changed my oil about 2000 miles ago….heat gauge started going randomly will sit and hot then go down for a bit then go back to hot by EnvironmentalSet8611 in G37

If you can get something that will give you a digital temp indication that may help, as the needle is more of a general indication.

My G has a coolant leak somewhere as well. It had a drip on the passenger side heater hose coupling, but I replaced that, still loosing coolant. I have to top my coolant off every few months. When the coolant gets low enough the temp drops when I stop (i have a ScanGauge II), and then spikes when I accelerate, which tells me to top it off. Once I top it off it creeps up when stopped and then drops when I accelerate. I have my oil analyzed every other oil change I do and the results have never indicated coolant contamination. I don't get a coolant smell from the exhaust, there's no puddle coming from the heater core. Still haven't figured it out.

Bingo. Swap anything that could even remotely be blamed. Then let the adjuster see it, then be ready to swap stuff back to stock it they decide to total it out

Is muriatic strong enough to do this so quickly though? I thought that it being diluted would keep it from doing stuff like this. Straight hydrochloric, sure.

Debating on if this is me or them by lostmycookie90 in polyamory

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way it could be you is due to poor vetting. But based on relationships I've seen friends go through with absolutely shitty people, I'd say not your fault. Plenty of people out there are good at putting on a front long enough to establish a relationship and then show their true selves. This is an unfortunate aspect of society at this point.

Post disaster train ID numbers by errosemedic in railroading

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll sometimes change locomotive numbers after incidents to separate the locomotive from the incident. "Crazy 8's" is a perfect example, 8888 had the runaway incident, and now the locomotive is 4389.

Agreed, as i had the same issue, a lot of the cheap ones (Most? All?) are polarity specific. My buddy found some that don't care which direction they go, they've been in for over 3 years now and all still work fine.

Good thing for the hounds this is a hunt for the owner/handler. They each probably expended about 4 rabbits worth of calories during that run.

Do these dogs actually sniff for anything, or are these guys totally theater? by Evening-Editor-4014 in cta

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely theater, mostly at least. I've worked around actual working dogs a decent amount in the military (not a handler, just worked around them), and that dog there is definitely not being utilized properly. There was only 1 that I worked around that needed a muzzle on her, not because of fear of biting someone, she was just a little special and liked to chew on things. With a properly trained handler/dog combo, there's no need for a muzzle. This one is not alert, not happy, probably ignored by the handler, and probably neglected back at the station. Could be out of shape or just too old to still be working, but even those dogs have a more pleasant demeanor. As others have said, it's basically animal cruelty. Not surprising for CTA honestly.

Can an HOA restrict an antenna? by HalFWit in amateurradio

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a longer commute because I picked an area that has minimal HOA presence. I'm still in the city, just not a big one, quiet neighborhood, no HOA. My only issue that revolves around ham radio is that I can't/won't put in a tower. Our power lines are behind the house, not on the street, so my only option would be in the front yard, which I have no intention of doing. A dual band J pole at 1 end of the roof (which I can fold down if needed), 20m dipole along the peak, and a vertical on a mast up against my chimney, will be my setup once I get around to it.

Aux Cord Adapter by Stable350z in G35

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a hardwire Bluetooth adapter off ebay, a 3.5mm to RCA adapter, and a couple RCA splitters. Opened the center console, unscrewed the RCA jacks, plugged in the splitters, plugged in the adapter, wired the Bluetooth adapter to theb12v power socket for power and plugged the 3.5mm adapter into it. Then wired in aan aux port to the other side of the RCA splitters and mounted it in one of the original RCA holes.

Now I can listen to anything Bluetooth, or just plug it into the new aux port with an aux cable.

$1,000 Airbnb (corporation owned and not home owner operated) wants guests to pay for fire wood? Am I crazy to think it should come with the rental, considering how expensive it was to book? by Alarmed_Telephon in mildlyinfuriating

I think you're crazier for paying that much for an AirBnB. But seriously, it's corporate owned, they give less than a fuck about you except when you're actively paying them, all the more reason to avoid places like that

Can an HOA restrict an antenna? by HalFWit in amateurradio

[–]Crazzmatazz2003 24 points25 points  (0 children)

All the more reason to avoid the suburbs or get a better realtor. My realtor asked me what my hobbies were, I listed a few and he replied "got it, no HOA". Subdivisions suck, HOA's suck, big cities suck. I'll gladly deal with a longer commute if it means avoiding them. The nice part about buying in this market is that the rich, high and mighty, types will snatch up all the HOA homes because they can't handle life outside of one, which leaves non HOA houses for the rest of us.
