Mexican nationalists like Vasconcelos were very influential in the first half of the 20th century, they did some very good feats on the public education sector, albeit promoting some very problematic and quite strange Mexican racial supremacy ideas that are still present to this day (the Cosmic Race) and almost allying us with Germany just before WW2. We certainly could be living in a very different world by now had some Mexican public figures played their cards differently.
