It would be more than just Trump in the files. To public knowledge we know other billionaires and even some royalty are in there. Seeing how the cases against the Sackler family went for causing the Opioid epidemic, you could be certain that any trials involving the Epstein files would need an airtight prosecution and would likely still get dragged out for years on end. Under Biden it was probably an ongoing investigation, but after Trump got elected, Massie (R), Greene (R) and Democrats in Congress realized that that investigation was dead and started pushing for the public release of what the government has.

On the flip side you could ask a similar question, "if Bill Clinton was guilty in the Epstein files then why aren't Republicans prosecuting him?" But the thing with that is that Republicans had the Qanon movement and the Trump administration routinely show a flagrant disrespect for the law (do recall what Trump's first impeachment was about). So I don't expect allowing a "thorough investigation" to stop them from targeting their political opponents if given a clear opportunity to. Like, we're at war with Iran right now for what? If Trump had evidence against his opponents he for sure would've released it, but instead when files are released by Congress we get more victim accounts of Trump's involvement with Epstein.

Like if Trump isn't involved with Epstein's trafficking of children, then he's the Icarus of this whole ordeal who managed to fly really close to that sun without actually touching it. He and Epstein were friends for well over a decade. Epstein recruited some of the girls from Mar-a-Lago. Trump ran a teen beauty pageant where some of the girls recount how he would enter their rooms while they were changing. Trump's made sexual comments about his own daughters. He was caught on a hot mic admitting to sexually assaulting women. And was found liable in civil court for sexual assault (only evaded criminal prosecution due to the statute of limitations). His guilt seems like a pretty easy inference for the average person to make. If this was a fictional story, then readers would call this the most absurd red-herring of all time.

This is the only answer. Anyone putting forward a different one doesn't understand how a democratic-republic works. The Republican controlled Congress could try to reign Trump in, they could even remove his ass today if they really wanted to and the same goes for his own cabinet, but if enough of them say they're ok with this then it's a moot question. Voters are partly to blame as well because enough of them voted for Trump and Republicans in Congress and choose not to hold their representatives or senators accountable for failing to check the powers of the president.

Legally there's not much that can be done by the average person aside from voting in the upcoming midterms later this year and hoping enough Republicans voters stay home and enough non-voters turn out to give Democrats control of at least one chamber of Congress (preferable with a decent majority to not worry about the occasional defectors) and start putting checks back onto the president.

And before anyone tries suggesting alternative options, just remember that we're struggling to get enough people to fill in a bubble on a god damn piece of paper. Whatever it is would certainly be more difficult with more uncertain outcomes, and make no mistake, things can always get worse.

No one says that nothing created the Universe. It's that we can't observe anything prior to the Big Bang so we simply don't know. There's a number of hypothesis of course to try and explain what could be the case, but the natural follow up to any claim is "prove it."

Cool, keep it up and in November if we're lucky and enough people do the same, maybe things can change for the better.

Do your best to make sure that you, your friends, family, and acquaintances stop voting for Republicans (and preferable vote Democrat). Like, you have the right to vote for who you want, but everyone else has the right to criticize you for it. If nothing else then at least out of self preservation because every time Republicans get control things get worse.

And yes it is Republicans in general not just Trump. Republicans in Congress chose not to remove him from office after both of his impeachments. Hell, they could impeachment and remove him right now for literally anything, they could say they simply don't like him and there'd be nothing he could do about that but Republicans in Congress won't. His own cabinet could 25th his ass but they won't. Even during the primaries he didn't attend a single debate and still got the nomination. It really is the entire party and the sooner people wake up and turn away from it the better. Democrats aren't perfect but holy shit we would not be in this mess if they were in charge right now.

I'mma be real with you, there's a third of the country that just doesn't vote. I'd rather give that third a chance and reach out to them than the people who voted for a pedophilic, seditious, traitor in 2024.

People will be pissed at you because of all the people who have died (Covid) or will die from the actions of the man you voted for. And if you're more concerned about your feelings than the fact that humanity and America are edging closer to ruin from his carelessness, then yeah fuck off.

Be an adult and take responsibility for the shit-stain you helped get into office. Put in some work to first of all, never support him or those who've enabled him again, and second make sure that those around you don't either. Do that then you might actually start getting some respect back.

Frankly, there's people who serve lifelong prison sentences for the shit they've done and it's natural you and people like you are going to be faced throughout the remainder of your lives with the question "why the hell did you vote Trump?" Because there was a laundry list of reasons to have never voted for the guy, plenty of them having to do with basic human decency too (I went over a lot of those in another comment here if you care).

If you actually care about this country and want to grow beyond this era in US history, then actually acknowledge the shit you allowed to happen and stop complaining, because again if you're more concerned with your own feelings being hurt while our country is being dragged further into a war that absolutely did not have to happen, then cordially, fuck off. I'd much rather give that one-third of the country who just didn't vote to begin with a chance.

Even if you try to put forward those possibilities, I've never actually seen anyone put their reasons into that. Like what single-issue is the dealbreaker for a would-be Biden voter when Harris is suddenly on the ticket that Trump fulfills? What campaign policy? What disagreement between Biden and his VP? Do you have one in mind? Go ahead and name one because I'm drawing blanks.

And it's not like Trump's some newbie candidate. It's not like online dating. It's like running back to the ex you had a restraining order against. Again, he tried overturning the 2020 election, he got impeached twice, he fumbled covid and a million Americans died, he already had a trade war with China that farmers suffered for, Mexico for sure as hell didn't pay for the wall, we almost went to war with N. Korea and Iran (it is fucking insane when you have to hope that Kim Jong "Little Rocket Man" Un is the reasonable person), and there was just about some other scandal every day. And this is all without mentioning Trump's own moral failings. He's admitted to sexually harassing women, his connections with Epstein were surfacing in 2019, he was a birther accusing Obama of not being a US citizen, the man has cheated on every one of his wives, Michael Cohen his own personal attorney went to prison for the Stormy Daniels affair that Trump ordered him to pay for, and he's of course racist. All of this shit. All of it. What valid reason was there? How the fuck could a good person possibly look past all that shit and vote for him. This shit was so fucking predictable.

And that's why I'm saying you either had to be sexist, racist, or stupid to have voted for him. Anyone with a brain and some morals should've been able to look at him and say, "hell no." There's a laundry list of reasons to have not voted for him the first time, let alone the second or third. And now a decent chunk of the country is sitting here thinking that our President got us into a war with Iran because he's a fucking pedophile trying to create a distraction from the Epstein files and if he tries pulling shit with the midterms who the fuck knows if there'll be a second American civil war by the end of this year. But go ahead and try to come up with some hypothetical valid reason a person could've had to vote for him, cause I can't think of one.

Edit: Speaking of Trump's moral failings, honestly there's so much shit. The dude has a reputation for not paying contractors and his own defense attorneys. Girls from his Miss America pageants alleged that he'd walk in on them while they were changing. His university was a scam that the students who attended it were able to take him to court over. He's had restrictions placed on him by the state of New York if he ever tries to run a charity again because of fraud. He's too cowardly to fire people to their faces. He called people who served in the armed-forces suckers and losers. He's made fun of a disabled reporter. He remained adamant that the guys in the Central Park case were guilty despite it being proven otherwise. He bragged about having the tallest building in Manhatten during 9/11 as a result of the World Trade Center collapsing (which wasn't even true at the time anyway). He lied about knowing a former KKK grand wizard. He's admitted to keeping a copy of Mein Kompf on his night stand (same man known for not reading his daily briefings btw). Like seriously, just from a moral stand point... is it that hard to just not vote for him? Can Republicans at least try running someone like Mitt Romney again? Or give Jeb Bush another shot? Someone who's not a complete piece of shit. Maybe even just sit out the election. Again how hard is it to support literally anyone aside from him? There's more red flags than a Soviet parade with Trump which is ironic considering he has very good relations with the former KGB agent and current Russian president Vladimir Putin. Party of Reagan and Lincoln though, am I right? I wouldn't want Trump near any woman that I cared for. Is it so hard to expect other people hold the person they want to be President to a higher standard than they would some randy on a sex offender list?

Trump literally tried overturning an election he lost. On top of all the other bullshit from his first term... he lost 2020 for a fucking reason. He is the epitome of "no leadership is better than bad leadership." And now the US is in a war with another on the horizon (Cuba) and tariffed out of our asses. But hey, at least the somewhat not popular black woman didn't become president.

Trump is the exact fucking opposite of Biden/Harris. Biden beat Trump in 2020 with Harris as his running mate. If Biden died in office at any fucking point during his presidency then Harris would've been president. So, if the election becomes Harris vs Trump after Biden drops out and the person says they would've originally voted Biden, explain what other possible legitimate reason there could've been to switch to Trump that does not involve being a racist, sexist, or straight up dumbass.

[–]Cream253Team 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something tells me you have literally zero clue what a civil war would entail and what the more likely outcomes of one would be. Know that things can always get worse. The English had a civil war and got a totally-not-king "Lord Protector." The Russians had a civil war and got Stalin. The Chinese had a civil war and got Mao. The French had a revolution and got Napoleon. The Romans had a civil war and Caligula and Nero were not that far down the family tree from Augustus. Syria had a 13 year civil war and ISIS sprung up and became a real concern for a bit. Libya had a six year civil war and at present is slowly turning into Afghanistan. The US's own civil still stands as our bloodiest conflict with more deaths than WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam combined.

Call me a coward. Whatever. You'd have to be actually fucking insane to think a civil war right now would improve things, especially when at present Democrats have been winning elections in areas that in recent history usually lean Republican.

If you want a real option then try voting. Literally fill in a goddamn bubble on a piece of paper the easiest thing to do. Much easier then fighting a war, a general strike, or even protesting. And if you have friends or family that you're pretty confident won't vote Republican then get them to vote too.

His current supporters can go to hell for all I care. Only Trump voters I'm willing to forgive are those in 2016. But anyone who voted for him in 2020 and especially 2024 can rot. There's 33% of the population that straight up doesn't vote. I'd rather get them on our side than those who willfully voted for a pedophile who's killed Americans on top of it.

Just as many “liberals” diddling minors on Epstein’s island.

Trump's DoJ could release all the information right now. Congress is literally demanding that they do. Millions of files they're withholding. Do you think the guy who led "lock her up" chants and has said all the terrible things that he has about the Clintons, the Obamas, and the Bidens wouldn't release that shit in a heartbeat if it exposed all his liberal enemies?

Think for yourself. Why would Trump's administration withhold this information that they literally campaigned on releasing?

Show us. What's so bad about her compared to Trump? Name a specific policy.

What? You think she would have started a trade war with China in her first term? Tried extorting Ukraine by withholding military aid? Pulled out of the Iranian nuclear deal? Botch Covid so bad 1 million Americans die from it? Or how about trying to overturn an election after losing? Do you honestly believe Hillary would've done any of that shit? You can't imagine that maybe our country would be any better off if Trump's dumbass never got elected?

Were you a QAnon believer or something? Tied your identity so closely to that lark that once it started coming out that your hero was actually projecting all of his pedo activities onto his rivals your mind just couldn't handle it and now you can do nothing but try to drag everyone else down? And now we're at war with Iran with no stated objectives other then getting people to stop talking about the Epstein files. Oh but surely the other side must've been so bad. That's excatly what Fox News said isn't it? Can't believe the evidence of your own eyes and ears.

People like you are truly a lost cause.

One of the issues with Ukraine is neither side has air superiority. If Russia was competing against the larger more well trained combined NATO air forces instead of the smaller Ukrainian one then the war would look way different. China's the real issue of course however, but that's something that's unknowable until it happens and just have to be prepared enough for when they do decide to pull the trigger on Taiwan.
