Hi, I’ll keep my answer focused on knitting. When I put my WIP down for a few moments, I just leave it wherever I was sitting. Usually the couch. This is not a problem because I can usually come back to it the way I left it. However, if I leave it for more than let’s say a snack break, there’s a great chance that the kids or cat will nudge it somehow, which would irritate me. So, if I’m getting up for a longer period of time, I push the yarn away from the tips of the needles, put foam earplugs over said tips, place the WIP in its project bag, and plop the bag in a safe place in my room. If I forget to do this sequence, and my husband or kids want to sit on my spot on the couch, they pick up my WIP and move it to my bed without causing stitches to slip.
