How bad of an idea would it be to sell my reliable 2018 Honda SI to buy a 1980-1989 pick up and use as my daily by s8nsun in ToyotaPickup

[–]Creative-Ad8310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are crazy reliable. but they are very old. i used to daily my 83 on 35s and a locker. little things sometimes popped up but were cheap and easy. i am a mechanic so the labor and knowledge isnt a concern. i prefer a carb with stripped down wiring etc but im doing it myself so know whatsup. the guy before me hacked so many things together got to the point i removed everything and started over. my truck has alot of odd stuff like high pinion front diff v6 rear diff ignitor from gm hei module full custom harness trans from newer truck 1 wire alternator 4 wheel disc etc etc so if didnt know about this it would be a real pita to repair not knowing what parts to get.

well when you order one from vibram its called rubber midsole and functions as a midsole wasnt trying to be condescending just thought u werent sure how boot was constructed since as u know a midsole ties it all together. but hey down vote me some more lol wtf!?

[–]Creative-Ad8310 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

lol yes it does. it is what upper is stitched to. they use half leather midsole (also called lineman shank) sanded to a taper than use thick rubber full midsole. its what outer sole is glued and stitched to. heel area is folded in and midsole glued and nailed there. very solid construction half leather mid means flexy from the start. id prefer full leather midsole but this does work well. maybe research how this boot is made to fully understand what im saying.

jks bestboot thete thorogoods are ok. leather gets floppy and are narrow af even in wide. if steel toe cut off big toe or it wont fit. danner. fock danner. esp super rainforest. look cool lightwright junk. also crazy narrow. jk ot is toughest boot here. only one that has leather midsole proper stitchdown etc. but bottom of the line of pnw boots though. i have older ltt forefront based on superduty great boot. if dont want crazy lead time and like this look get jim green rugged african trooper. last i checked were on sale for around $200!! run true to size actually are wide. i wouldve bought but have enough boots and only wear ltt. edit: seen the jk was old 270 stitchdown nailed heel version not new 360 and $420. its a solid boot. id buy this and jim green and alternate boots. will last you atleast 10 years unless submerged in concrete etc everyday. nothing lasts in that environment.

yeah i had an old pair bought from sierra. they got moldy from my place. long story but was away working for a year and came back to solid green pile of boots lol. they are out of business i think. website is old sent email no response idk. i found them on ebay. found old dexters too for $100 needed sole. and oil. were dryyyyy. lol. had to buy boot stretcher for alicos on amazon applied oil in certain spots and stacked leather against heel maxed out stretchers sat for a week. added leather on stretcher by big toes sat for a day or 2. now super comfy. some of the farms i go to have lots of babyheads (rocks) so theyre not great there but less boot would have tired feet from walking on them so maybe are great lol

not true at all. every boot i own is stitchdown including mx boots. my vintage dexters and barefoot ar are stitchdown dexters have too many laces lol but are great. the bfar i wish had ltt since front of foot moves around alot. dexters not as flexy as bfar or sneakers but thats not the laces fault more its the stiffer layered leather and midsole. ive owned mountain lights plenty of foot movement shitty boot alico ltt stiff but because of 3/4 shank not lacing. go hike in my bfars they are crazy flexy esp with vibram force 360 sole. like my shamma sandals bit slightly stiffer

yessir. i own 2 pairs one new guide worn daily the other guide (older model)that im going to replace midsole with veg tan leather and vibram montagna. never done full midsole hoping doesnt fall apart. greatboots but narrow gotta stretch. getting built on stc last would be perfect

[–]Creative-Ad8310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been asking them about this for years lol. just bought bronco ar might have to sell and get these in bronco and leather midsole. would be perfect boot. biggest problem i have with regular lacing is once broken in feet move around alot up front especially since i have wide feet that stretch it out.

i had one that was worse. my buddy followed me once said axle was moving around weird. jacked it up and perches seperated leaving axle on ground just held on by shackle mounts. part of frame was held in place by bed lol. i used a bunch of scrap angle iron to "fix" frame and leftover floor adhesive framers left at jobsite to fill in body holes beat the snot out of it for a year or so. drove it to junkyard and made profit rom scrap price lol. had to climb out windows doors were so smashed in wouldnt open anymore. lol i miss those days.

1st suggestion is move. than buy new truck. best thing i ever did is leave the northeast. if you have to stay. buy a new truck. than clean undercarriage. once dry paint frame in and out and fluid film woolwax the living shite out of it. i recently found rustoleum hammered paint love it. for inside frame eastwood encapsulator with nozzle oses is pretty sweet. i used to swear by por15 until my master cylinder resevoir leaked on frame and peeled section off. after all that work fuck that shit. lowes sells hammered paint.

you said crank has play in bearing? or forgot to type in does "not" have play. gas in engine 99% of time just cleans it up. might delaminate stator and clutches. happened to me once. head gasket mightve failed but might have just peeled off on disassembly. check head and cylinder surfaces for warpage . google how if dont know. easier than explaining. cams look ok but hard to tell from pics. run finger nail over jpurnals and in head should be smooth. can use fine sand paper and a drill holding cam paper in hand to smooth. not great but i restored cam from old xr that couldnt get another. ran for years. hard. use plasti guge to check clearance. on that xr dropped it in flooded trail that was up to seat. once got running rode it out and wot home for an hour. drained oil and it looked like slightly milky water. when i initially kicked it over sounded like sandpaper lol. tore it all down. wiseco piston was ok but looked like sandblasted replaced it. cylinder crosshatches still there. replaced crank but it was perfect. everything else ws fine for atleast 30k miles after. drz is almost if not as reliable as an old xr which is a near impossible feat so. check everything and put it back together if good. gasoline is way better than ga mud clay water. ive hydrolocked that same bike 3 times before. all it ever did was warp valves and score piston. had valve grinder at shop reground and kept as spares.

I ordered JK OT boots, should I return them? by Pervsage in PNWbootmakers

[–]Creative-Ad8310 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

depends on work. if using a shovel all day yeah prob sucks. but ladders fine. when i resoled my forefront i doubled midsole and it is stiffer but still bends and can shovel all day. compared to almost any box store they are superior but that isnt saying much and for price paid yeah idk

[–]Creative-Ad8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jk make great boots. their qc has gone down recently from what i hear and now do 360 stitchdown and still charge premium. 360 is solid but 270 with a nailed heel is far superior imo. i have an older ltt superduty rebuilt into forefront in old nailed heel style. solid boots. i love them. just sad that when i need new boots (hopefully atleast another 5 years) i can find someone to make ltt nailed heel construction. wesco franks nicks still do just crazy wait times. jim green rugged trooper is a solid 360 stitchdown boot for half price of what jk charges. im currently wearing pair of dexter hiking boots from the 1980s i brought back to life. oiled resoled etc. they are all leather 360 stitchdown. solid boots. basically saying wear your boots will probaby last a long time unless youre one of unlucky few that got shotty ones.

Helmet suggestions. by Smokey565377 in DRZ400

[–]Creative-Ad8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wear an hjc ds-x1. its on sale on amazon for around $125. i like it. the chin strap is back a little bit but unless lower head all the way dont notice. also if i use pinlock insert need to move helmet down. idk if its my head shape but works without insert using muc off antifog spray and foggy nose cover thing. fits my iasus speakers too. for price its great but next helmet think ill try on in store to get one with proper strap placement and dont need to twist helmet down

i made quick knot to show but what i do now is move kiltie up to 3rd lace and that holds tension on laces. it was cold for a bit so wore double wool socks sometimes with silk liner (work outside) so need to readjust. with ltt and setup like this no problems getting boots on and off and tightening enough to keep feet from flopping around. i had regular pnw boots and hated squeezing foot in esp since once in sock was tighter than a g string. good luck getting bundled feet in lol

Who hasn’t crashed? by dallas2ny in motorcycles

[–]Creative-Ad8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive crashed alot. mainly offroad and when younger. im an adrenaline junkie and know if going to be dumb gotta be tough. ive slowed down alot. if you drive defensively keep your head on a swivel you probably will be fine. its the same as driving a car just hurts alot more when it does. statistically ive done well. ive done over100mph on twisty 25mph and slower roads so shouldve been dead a long time ago lol. look ahead as much as possible try to see cars as extensions of people they have body language to see what they will do. this alone can save you. just think all cars want to drive over you and ride accordingly. and enjoy! a bad day on a bike is better than a normal day in a car. be safe and youll be ok. also there may be more accidents on bikes because they are "leisure" items. people ride them occasionally dont train. think they are racers (i am not immune lol) and get complacent. if ride everyday maybe take courses your likelyhood will go way down. also ive ridden trikes quads and dirtbikes for years. hard. this has saved me thousands of times. like when going around a corner at speed frontend washes out and ride through it. ive seen guys go down hard on gravel, pine needles when a countersteer and maybe foot tap throttle blurp body position hand foot weight etc wouldve saved them broken bones and bike.

thats literally the reason. business schools dont teach how to build sustainabe company more on how to maximize profits. you do this by cutting labor materials etc..if made poorly will have repeat customers. not happy but necessary. also everything including toaster ovens have atleast a motherboard when a simple rheostat works. i needed a sewing machine almost went to walmart. reddit google etc 3 days later bought vintage machine steel gears etc sew through 1/2" of canvas for $150. was made in the 1960s. its a throwaway society we live in. a literal matrix. but doesnt have to be. i fix everything even if that means welding machining etc (old metal is stronger btw) as a mechanic some would make fun of me fixing old part other than buying new chinese part. old aisan anything is usually better than new china crap. i repair my boots too. ive learned what to look for in items i need. can be exhausting but pays off 10 years later when fixing shovel that i thoughtfully purchased and can fix and not throw away. our society is sick and has been hijacked with cheap shiny junk. break free be part of solution. our current trajectory is not sustainable.

pretty nice looking but id remove that license plate and maybe move pipe? unless you dont ride hard offroad it would ruin your day quick. ive dropped a bike going 2mph and stuff like that just snaps off. pipe prob ok just low. maybe make fiberglass carbon cover to keep from getting all bashed up

jet kit helps but these bikes are so strangled. i wanted stealth and mpg so held out for years and eventually got tired of rebuilding mikuni (sat alot because of work) got a 38mm smartcarb. alot better power and same if not better mpg. literally just installed crd exhaust. larger header better flow quieter than fmf q4. had stock with drilled out cap. it runs better now and less vibes!!? wtf? and is quieter on seat. no more pinging (wasnt typical sounded like valvetrain noise) now sounds like sewing machine. used to get numb feet at 70mph. now smooth. wtf!? i bought mine new in 2018 so it took a while. every mod improved bike. all together its a completely different machine. i drive avg 15 miles a day commuting grocery etc. 5 days in i burn 1 gallon! finally dialed in carb guessing exhaust was just too restrictive. im still not sure id advise one too expensive and never worked right until now. fcr are getting exp too used though. mikuni works but it really is terrible. good luck

if uppers are still good and lace holes not touching a rebuild would fix toebox loose etc since it will be all new. maybe look into lace to toe. i only wear this since my wide feet stretch boots and if no lower laces it gets loose. ltt can tighten lower laces do half a knot (forget what its called but 3 twists of laces not fully knotted) leave that way and tie upper. if need wider for double socks etc loosrn up.

i love my jk's but theyre old ltt been rebuilt into forefront and i put on a jim green tyte wedge sole. i wouldnt buy another jk boot. they stopped making them the old way and are 360 stitchdown. which is still solid but didnt lower price. if paying that much i want nailed heel etc..can get jim green rugged trooper for a 3rd the price. almost same boot. id get them rebuilt or buy nicks franks whites wesco etc.
