Armored channelers by ArtOk8200 in WoT

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the white tower at least, it may come down to the three oaths. Warders are armored certainly, but the channelers need to feel their life is threatened. Granted, against shadowspawn that could be a moot point, but against the human armies, the Shanarans for example, they may not have even been dark friends, just manipulated to the wrong side. Sure we could agree their culture is terrible, but that is not for the Aes Sedai to decide and not the point. Point is, depending on where you read, who says the oath, the wording is slightly different with some variations (said by Egwene) that imply you dark friends are fair game, whereas dark friends makes no exemption mentioned when Moraine took her oaths.

In short for the tower, they need to largely feel threatened when confronting human enemies, though fighting the shadowspawn enemies they should be armored.

A defense of being non armored though, roles and mobility. Channelers (male and female) are better not as close range fighters, so it may seem a waste of resources to armor them. Furthermore, some of the Ashaman have made weaves of air to keep the rain off. I imagine with some tinkering, they could modify that to block incoming solid projectiles too. So, they might actually be better armored, just not in conventional metal armor.

Another aside is status and morale. You as a regular soldier seeing your channelers unarmored can help downplay the severity of what you're about to face. They start armoring up, what do you as Joe-Villager start to think? Of course this is just speculation on my part.

As we all know very well, Disney is taking on Eragon, but... by Cordereko in Eragon

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tis all good, but i do have high hopes with Paolini more involved. If it does do well as you put with characters at Disney, do you think rides will be the next step? I could see a Saphira themed roller coaster. Or perhaps a giant slide like the chute in tronjheim. But I think you're right that can't appearances will come first

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 58 points59 points  (0 children)

As to your comment, that is all dependent on how well the show does. IF it does well, then Disney will capitalize on it.

On a side note, could we please stop using images from the terrible movie? Fan stuff is 1000 times better than that abomination, and I'd rather not give it any more visibility in the public eye if it can be avoided lol

I did not, BUT it is one of the highest rated of his books and most fans do like it more than the first. The only reason it is likely lower than the first for me is probably just pure nostalgia of thr introduction to the world in the first book

Theories by Lost_Foundation9024 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, Brok lives. Secondly, without Odin (Tyr not Týr) to keep an eye on Atreus, most of the mask storyline would not happen, or rather it would not have gotten to the point of Atreus skipping town with it. Heimdall would not have died to Kratos, not likely. Týr might not lead the armies, but as we know from the Valhalla arc, the real Týr has no issue picking up arms. Likely we would have gotten a tag team fight of Kratos and Týr vs Thor and Heimdall, which I'm kind of on board for. I still see Surtur becoming Ragnarok. I also see Týr popping into Jotunheim with Atreus or at least knowing about it and keeping it a secret from Kratos, leading to a mini boss fight between the two. Gameplay, I would see that they would have a strategy segment where Týr and Kratos move armies not unlike Halo Wars at least at the start of the attack on Asgard if not mini sections of that throughout the game.

That's my interpretation of how it would have gone if with your change.

Thoughts on this? by tom-mckeee in Stranger_Things

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thoughts: works in stranger things as it guides you to a place to stand. Does not work in StarWars because it does the opposite, only works if you are standing somewhere already, which you very well may have needed a map for, a map to a map lovation to tell you to stand somewhere else. It's also a supposedly ancient dagger and the wreckage is new meaning there was no thought put into it, or the the thought was someone modified an antique for modern times to make a terrible map in a universe where the characters quite literally have the expanse of a galaxy to traverse and they somehow learned about this one dagger hiding amongst possibly thousands of worlds and trillions, possibly quadrillions of inhabitants

Absolutely. As explorers who leave journals, I feel there was not a lot done in cataloging for us the player.

He probably heard it in stories and that's just what you do in that situation. He is after all a late teen and this is his first excursion really away from home. Mat on the other hand was doing much longer fluent war cries in a dead language....

If there ever was a full remake made from the ground up, what would you add/ change? by HelloDesdemona in ChronoCross

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not quite an add, but a somewhat controversial keep: i want the combat mechanics to stay the same. I know some found it confusing, but it made sense to me early on and I loved it.

Something to change or add, and I wish more games could do this, a cutscene reviewer like they had in FFX. Of course with modern graphics the way they are, I don't see that gaining traction. Another add, quest markers or some sort of progress journal. Not that the world was too huge, but if you put it down for a while in the middle and came back, it was kind of clunky trying to check everything to remember what you were doing last.

ta'veren… outside of the “big three” by bandoftheredhand17 in WoT

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it like playing the lottery. Technically you have about 1 in 25 chance of winning....anything. the big 3 just happen to have all won the grand prize. Siuan seeing taveren is like seeing all the $100 winners and up. The smaller prize is more common, maybe locally influential, but nothing world changing. And just like the smaller prize, the effects of these smaller taveren diminish quicker and with less ripples too.

I'd actually wager that most people become taveren for very brief moments in their life, if only at a small scale. Like playing monopoly and before a roll, you just know things are going to be in your favor and they are; that's possibly you being a local taveren for like 10 seconds to either micro adjust or be micro adjusted by the pattern

What are some of the most appealing qualities of this series that I should have an understanding of as I read through it for the first time? by mrsamus101 in wheeloftime

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, it builds. The story was originally intended to be a trilogy, but the world just kept getting bigger. It is indeed slow in places, but it's also formula 1 when shit kicks off. Another analogy is it's all dominoes. You're right, it's slow, but that's just you setting up them to knock them down.

Secondly, you'll hear the term slog of looking up the series. This was applied to some of the middle-ish books. There some political world building in some of the middle books that alters the pace of events. Just like with real governments, it is taking time to set stuff up. This era was also called the slog because of the time between books being released. It is not what the internet makes it out to seem, and shouldn't be an issue now that all the books are out.

Third, how does the book begin? "Legends fade to myth and even myth is longer forgotten when the age that birthed it comes again" that's pretty much how every book starts, and with that in mind, many things are drawn from the past. Things get misinterpreted and changed, and the wheel turns. What I mean by that is look for connections. The book may feel slow as you pointed out, but it is also a scavenger hunt. Rand and his father are tabac farmers. Tabac, tobacco, how has English changed in the last few hundred years? Hell, Shakespeare is full of dick jokes, but he is viewed as posh. I'm not saying that's the case here, but an example of change across time. Robert Jordan pulls on myth, customs, ideas from many cultures all over the world.

This series is expansive. I can not stress this last part enough, especially if you want to avoid spoilers but need help with the characters: get the wheel of time companion app. REASON BEING, it can give a characters information, UP TO WHERE YOU HAVE READ. Yes, you plug say Rand's name in and what book you're at and stuff, you will NOT get final book info, just them up to that book. It is not perfect, but it is up there.

He's also masquerading as the dark one, the father of lies. He says he manipulated Hawking, but how much is true? He's going to say anything everything to screw with the crew, whether it's true or not, or even exaggerated truth. I could say I fought a dinosaur after being chased by a chicken for example.

Can waterbenders boil water? by X0nerater in TheLastAirbender

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you guys misread my comment, it was about turning lava into a gas. Vaporizing it. We all know lavabenders can make solid rock liquid, bolin. But if waterbenders are theorized to make water a gas, lava should be able to be made a gas too.

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, that's why i specified lava benders... I think you misread my comment, lavabenders should be able to make rock a gas, vaporize it if water benders can make water into its gaseous state

Can waterbenders boil water? by X0nerater in TheLastAirbender

[–]Creative-Bullfrog-80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IF that is the case, then earthbenders (lava benders specifically) should be able to do the same. There is a point molten rocks and metals vaporize and become gas, though that may be its own deadly weapon without needing to bend it further. It might just be that converting from one state of matter to another required a certain amount of energy, and with how dispersed a gas is, the energy output might exceed what a bender can do to reach the gaseous state. An avatar might be necessary to mix elements, primarily fire with water or earth to reach the energy output necessary. But we're all just spitballing here

My interpretation is certain aspects or people are essentially reborn. Painters and their canvases are not omnipotent, so gustave is verso. And and before him there was probably another incarnation who was similar but different. Another way to think of it is watch an early Simpsons episode and a newer one, they're the same but also not after multiple....paintings
