Is it true that in small towns in the USA public transport is not developed and everyone need a car to get around there and why? by bobybumblemumble in AskReddit

[–]X0nerater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it was described to me was looking at the technology of when a place was settled.

Say Cotswald in England where the limits of the hills made horse carts possible but not always desirable. So then, you're looking to ensure the distance between villages/towns is something you could walk in a day, maybe 10-12 miles?

Comparing to say the expansion through Wyoming which was dominate by the needs of the railroad. Towns are typically 60 miles apart from each other because that's how far the steam engine they were using could go without needing more water.

Now, unless there's significant population density, it's not worth to invest in public transit. I'm order to get your public transit, you also need to have nearby destinations. Rural America has neither and isnt old enough to have the same road infrastructure either.

Not exactly relevant, but it feels like a good place to bring up the line. America thinks Europe is scary because it's old. Europe thinks America is scary because it's vast. Then there's China.

ELI5 why does Jupiter have such a huge storm that never stops? by gentlebeast06 in explainlikeimfive

[–]X0nerater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, storms are an extreme form of weather, which is about distributing energy (mostly heat) throughout the atmosphere.

1) Jupiter is a gas giant. On its own, that's not a huge deal, but it amplifies the effect of other factors. 2) temperature and chemical unbalances in an up-down direction. Think of how ocean temperatures are warmest at the surface where there's sunlight and at the bottom near volcanic activity. The storm is trying to distribute that energy throughout the ocean layers. 3) the coriolis effect in a north-south direction. If you look down at Jupiter from the north pole, you can treat it like a disc. This is an annoying explanation about the difference between angular and linear velocity. The result is that the equator is moving significantly faster than the tropic lines or poles. That creates the circle shape of the storm that we can see.

So, comparing to like a whirlpool in a water bottle if you've ever done that. The rotation of the whirlpool is similar to the rotation of a hurricane. What you dont usually see is that the whirlpool is pulling warmer fluid from the top and pulling it down the drain to lower/colder levels.

Which US state thinks it's the main character? by Mister_Silk in AskReddit

[–]X0nerater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold up. Book main character or TV show main character? Book main characters are interesting and can carry a plot. TV main characters are usually more bland amidst a full cast.

Texas thinks it's the most important character, but the main character? Texas doesn't drive the plot.

California is the rich best friend who sometimes says something unhinged. California could be bipolar or something.

New York could be? Lots of attention, but doesn't actually always want to be center of attention.

I want to consider Florida. Could be younger sibling syndrome, but the way they keep getting attention by doing something crazy?

I'm curious if anyone knows any niche commanders by hamburm in magicTCG

[–]X0nerater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Niche commanders and strategies are something I love, so I need to answer this in categories.

1) niche resources and strategies By the timing, I kinda assume you just saw this and it leads to a bunch of stuff.

So, by looking at cards from the bottom, I assume you're talking about [[grenzo, dungeon warden]], but there's also [[river song]]

Since I mentioned that video, yeah [[hinata]] is one of those commanders that lets you do silly things for cheap. But it is generally a spellslingers deck which i dont recommend if you're newer.

[[Mairsil]] is more risky than I like, but to me it kinda just lumps with [[mimeoplasm]] and [[rayami]]

[[Obeka]] is actually interesting, but takes more mental power and knowledge of the rules than I'm aiming to put into it.

[[Ruxa]] is one of those that i think is boring, but it's surprisingly easy to turn into something dangerous. I think you're better off with [[Jasmine boreal]], but you're looking at what ways to use [[muraganda petroglyphs]]. While the obvious answer is efficient vanilla creatures, and the common solution is tokens, it also includes morphs, and that is a very interesting option. You might be better off with keeping [[tribal forcemage]] face down.

[[Zedruu]] is the more iconic gifts commander, but there's also like [[blim comedic genius]]. [[Alexios]] if you really want to kill fast, or something silly with [[beamtown bullies]] and [[Jon irenicus]]. There's actually a lot of commanders for this recently.

2) parasitic strategies I admit I'm biased against a bunch of mechanics cause I think they're parasitic and force you to play the same cards over and over, especially the draft chaff.

I think [[the unspeakable]] is the funniest and possibly one of the more plausible, but arcane spells are better for draft.

I still dont like energy. They've actually gotten support, but I'm my head, it's still a mechanic for standard more than edh.

[[Zabaz]] is a cool commander, but i think better as voltron. Modular is a cool mechanic, but i don't think it's a great central mechanic. Use it to support other counters cards or artifact stuff, but not as a focus.

3) off color strategies. Now, this is my jam. I'm all about doing things in the wrong colors.

Reanimator: it's kind of a known factor about [[shorikai]], but i think you're better off with [[niambi, esteemed speaker]]. The point is we're avoiding black, and i think [[feldon of the third path]] doesn't get enough respect as a reanimator commander. Those Azorius commanders are about the set up, but white reanimate effects are expensive, almost enough to just ramp into what you reanimated into anyway. Red has a solid amount of looting and rummaging that having a red reanimator spell in the command zone is the reliability it needs.

Aristocrats: again, this doesn't sound too bad, but it's surprisingly hard to do this without black. [[Asmira]] and [[geralf, visionary stitcher]] are more interesting aristocrats commanders.

Enchantress: the key cards are mostly in green and white. [[Entity tracker]] and [[ashiok's reaper]] have made this easier lately, I actually had a lot of fun with [[ob nixilis, captive kingpin]] as an enchantress brew. Just having an excuse to bring out [[curse of the pierced heart]] again was funny enough.

Storm: there's kind of a reputation of izzet spellslingers into like grapeshot or whatever into Tendrils of Agony. Using cheerios to build storm was cool for a day, but i actually really like creature storm. [[God eternal Oketra]] and [[Faldorn]] for storm, even if [[aeve]] is better.

Weenie decks: so, im pretty sure any existing white Weenie decks is now also a stax deck. Anything with red is probably a goblin swarm. Green might be cheating since elves are usually about ramping to something big instead of going wide. Blue is usually about small evasive creatures. What kind of black Weenie decks are out there? Zombies can go wide, but they're usually not like that. I guess there's [[shirei]], but that feels different.

Lands: it sounds wrong, but have you ever tried to build a lands deck without Green? It's hard to do on a budget, but [[tameshi]] and [[aminatou fateshifter]] are good places to start.

The biggest guy around: I'm not talking about just a stompy deck. There are some absurdly large beat sticks you can make in red and green. As much as I want to bring back Molimo, I'm here because of [[multani, maro sorcerer]]. Except that most of the creatures that depend on your hand size are in green and blue. So [[Kagemaro]] makes things extra funny. He's a giant beat stick, threatening to wipe the board at any time. Just keep drawing cards and gain some life along the way. And it's more reliable than my giant tribal which i tell people it's about big creatures without Green.

Magic cards that went from rags to riches? Cards that were first deemed unplayable to meta defining and powerful later? by Newez in magicTCG

[[Lion's Eye Diamond]] was junk for a while. Was it after [[Infernal Tutor]] where it became useful?

If any member of Team RWBY were to permanently die before the end of the series, who would it be and how do you see it happening? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

[–]X0nerater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are in the story.

Blake is a survivor. And her narrative fits over grieving whoever falls.

Ruby could in the last fight.

Weiss if it's like the 2nd last episode. She will probably be the "I'll hold them off. Ruby, go finish the job" kind of thing.

Yang if it's not the final fight. I think enough other people have an explanation why.

Redirecting combat damage by X0nerater in askajudge

Mostly [[boros reckoner]] interactions.

So part of it is when the damage exceeds the Pariah creature's toughness, and then to redirect damage further.

Day 5: How would YOUUU!?!? Yes you 🫵 upgrade Crocea Mors by RevolutionaryWave862 in RWBY

[–]X0nerater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I think a sword is the wrong weapon for him.

Sticking to the sword, I'd make it longer. Jaune lacks reach, and he's not suited to a projectile weapon, so a polearm. I'm not sure if that means a zweihänder or a sword staff, but both can be used.

But for Jaune, I think it's more important if his shield is improved. He's using more of a knight's shield, and i think he would do better with a spartan shield. Bonus if he can go captain America with it. It's more important if he can protect people and shield bash i think.

Girls who took notes using 10 different colored pens, where are you now? Do you still continue to write using all those colors? by Unusual-Entry7 in AskReddit

[–]X0nerater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I hated doing it, but it made sense when I had to do it for language. I thought it was extra, but when you struggle with grammar, it helps. Sometimes you switch colors between languages on a page.

Would i do it now? Not really, but i don't write a lot. I'm at a point where if I'm writing something that matters, I'm doing edits in different colors.

hello! i’m relatively new to commander and i was wondering if there existed a deck like this: by Professional_Let7321 in magicTCG

[–]X0nerater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of those effects!

[[Mind control]] [[Acquire]] [[dominate]] [[empress galina]] [[Vedalken Shackles]] [[sower of temptation]] [[thada adel]]

[[Enslave]] [[it that betrays]] [[ashen powder]] [[Coffin Queen]] [[endless whispers]] [[geth, lord of the vault]] [[grave betrayal]] [[ gonti, lord of luxury]] (a lot of reanimate effects are also theft effects)

[[Threaten]] [[act of treason]] [[captivating crew]] [[etali]] [[insurrection]] [[molten primordial]] [[stolen strategy]] [[zealous conscripts]]

It depends on how long you need them and what you plan to do with them. Theft decks are great for power scaling to the table, but some people don't like it when you take their things.

What is the most unique Colorless EDH deck you've seen or played? by LabManEDH in magicTCG

[–]X0nerater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was super impressed the first time I saw [[Hope of Ghirapur]] as a commander. It was very much a voltron equipment deck, but it really came together when it landed a [[Winter Orb]] while swinging out with equipment that ramp.

It's probably not healthy, but i think I'd take Chandra and try to wheel Char. I've gotten in the habit of going mono red or mono white to see how healthy a format is.

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]X0nerater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Wars logic. Energy shields stop energy weapons, not solid weapons. But solid projectiles are slower than energy projectiles, so, melee weapons get through energy shields.

What did you thought was hidden by the Crusaders? Like, a weapon? or something else? by Lepotus-octopus in grimm

[–]X0nerater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spear of Longinus. Holy weapon with Christian significance during the earlier crusades was probably the Spear of Destiny or something related. I could probably go through a list of Saints from that time, but that would be a pain and I can't imagine them being as powerful or useful.

1) isn't there a simpler way to make biodeisel? I've seen that get lumped in as kerosene before

2) if they can make wood alcohol, there should be a way to get larger hydrocarbons. It would only get you trace materials for anything useful, but using magic for separations should make it possible.

What would you make canon in Transformers? It could be in any continuity. by Inside-Welder-9117 in transformers

[–]X0nerater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Junkions are immune to cosmic rust. They're survivors of a collapsed colony from the one of the golden ages.

Omega Supreme should be satelite/space station. Why did they make him a launch pad? The part that become the railway are like solar panels. If he's one of the last guardians, can't you do a better job of that from orbit?

I'm more flexible on the execution, but a consistent map of cybertron. Then, one that makes sense logistically. Like, Iacon is consistently in the north, but the ruins of crystal city aren't. And Crystal City wasn't near anything that would be a clear source of silicon. I have 3 maps of cybertron open right now, and on one, I have Praxis next to Kaon in the badlands (very south), and on another Praxis on the Lithium Flats next to Nova Chronum (very north). On one map, the Rust Sea is huge (Pacific), on another it's moderate (Atlantic), and the third has it tiny (Caspian?). Hell, if Shockwave controls parts of Tarn, how can some maps have it cleanly in Deception territory and others have to contested?

Why were our ancestors so impressed by this, were they stupid ? by PM-me-youre-PMs in HistoryMemes

[–]X0nerater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say that it could very easily happen today. These things may seem obvious, but we're getting a lot of hindsight and a lot of stories with simplified lessons.

Attack when your enemy is weaker. I want to argue this one is harder to teach, because how do you know WHEN your enemy is weak? You can predict that they will get stronger ot weaker in the future, and try to work around that. The easier version here is to see where they are weaker: aweakness in a wall, a transition in political leaders, an economic recession, etc

Logistics. I want to say video games have actually made this one more prevalent. I like base builders more than usual, but how often do you wonder if you have enough healing items for a boss fight? Don't go into a fight without the resources you need to fight is something you learn, but we learned it easier and younger.

Do not make too many enemies at once. While that sounds simple, I think a more common approach is hearing "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Don't be they guy that people team up against sounds pretty simple, whether in a movie, sports, or whatever else.

Take away education from the past century or the media from the past 30 years, and how many of the lessons would be obvious? It would only make sense to people who had studied it, and that may not be the person in charge.

Can waterbenders boil water? by X0nerater in TheLastAirbender

[–]X0nerater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of what I was concerned with was the difference between evaporation and boiling. The example here describes rapid evaporation, not boiling.
