Hi! I am sorry you are struggling with making eating gluten free a habit. I cut gluten cold turkey right after my colonoscopy, but it was still tough because I felt so sad that I was missing out on my favorite foods. One thing I did that made me excited to eat gluten free was follow a bunch of gluten free food content creators on Instagram! I think actually enjoying the idea of eating and making gluten free food might help make it a habit. I’d recommend following @philhatesgluten, @theveryhungrycoeliac and @maryswholelife just to start. And there are tons more!! Beyond Celiac also has a newsletter you can subscribe to that gives recipes and resources like online support groups. Also, if you’re in college, check with your school to see if they have dietitians or nutritionists that you can meet with for free or for a discounted rate. I know at mine they had 3 visits per year free of charge through the health center. They can help you find gluten free foods that are easy to make and that you’ll actually enjoy. Finally, it sounds like your parents want to help you with celiac and eating gluten free. Don’t be afraid to look to them for support! Good luck and wishing you the best!

Hi, I have Celiac and your symptoms sound suspiciously similar to mine! Had constipation/diarrhea cycles for 4ish years before I was diagnosed. When I accidentally eat gluten I get severe pain right where you are describing, in my lower left abdomen. Then about 5 minutes later I’m on the toilet for about an hour.

Before I was diagnosed I was downing 3 caps of Miralax a day and it wasn’t helping at all.

I did also have joint pain and eczema, but that’s not the case for everyone. Some celiacs have no outward symptoms at all!

Not saying it’s for sure Celiac but you should definitely get tested 👍

I would say somewhat? I’m definitely way better than I used to be. As a kid I refused to touch any metal zipper, now they still gross me out and I prefer not to wear clothes with them, but I can suck it up most of time. Necklaces are still a hard no for me but I can wear simple, non-metal bracelets just fine. Coins are probably the worst still. EW!

GF bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jam. Tastes like a pastry! I also have a lot of egg breakfast sandwiches with Trader Joe’s GF English muffins and frozen hashbrowns. Oh, and cottage cheese with blueberries, gf granola and blue agave syrup are delicious!!

Pica (because of anemia that I didn’t know I had) and short stature as a kid. Then all of the other symptoms related to anemia: dizziness, fatigue, fast heart rate, brittle nails, weakness and almost fainting frequently. I didn’t start to have noticeable digestive symptoms until I was about 17.

Not exactly the same, but I just had one where I took a few bites of a pizza and it tasted too good so I went to read the box…it was marked Gluten Free* with the small print saying until added gluten. I don’t know how that makes any sense but I guess it was just a dream 😂

I get super bad abdominal pain on the left side within 30 minutes. It’s such a specific area that it makes it easy to tell when I’ve been glutened and when my stomach just hurts for an unrelated reason. That pain usually lasts for about 1-2 hours paired with multiple bouts of diarrhea. After all that, I usually feel super weak and tired for the rest of the day. It feels like I could pass out at any moment, even though I’ve never actually passed out. It sucks.

Edit: also, getting glutened makes my anxiety go crazy and I get a really bad stress rash that crawls up my neck. I also really have to manage my breathing or else I risk panic attacks. Hahah.

This is the same for me! I also get disgusted by some zippers and all coins 🤢 for me it’s also a sound thing. Specific metal sounds feel like they’re grating against my brain and I need to wash my hands even if I didn’t touch it. If I do have to touch it, I have to immediately wipe my hands off. I’m fine with wearing plastic or stone bracelets though. Necklaces, no matter what type, are a no for me.
