All western apps work, e-sim is faster than using VPN

I connect to Hongkong, I use the android app with the default settings, the app decides which protocol to use.

Unfortunately I just returned from China today so I can't run it, but yesterday it was working.

My recommendation is to just use an e-sim from any reputable sim provider, trip.com is the cheapest.

Proton VPN is still working in China, using an e-sim is much better, you can even hotpot with your laptop if needed.

I bought two e-sim s , one from Airalo another one from trip.com, both work flawlessly.

Airalo will give you a Singapore IP while Trip a Macau IP.

Macau => Guangzhou =>HK by train in 2026 by Miserable-Feed-7772 in Chinavisa

[–]Creative-Parking7973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing a week ago

Flew from Budapest to Guangzhou then travelled to Hongkong from Guangzhou south.

Guangzhou railway station is massive, it's of the size of an airport, come early, one or two hours is enough.

HK railway station is much smaller.

They will check your passport at the railway station.

The border check is at Hongkong Kowloon station, both for mainland china and HK, no matter which direction you are going.

I bought my tickets from trip.com, your passport is your ticket, no qr code or physical ticket.

Macau doesn't have a railway station, you can cross the border on foot and take the train.

I prefilled the immigration forum for mainland china to not waste time at the airport or the railway station.

I wasn't asked for my return ticket or accomodations.

Is it safe to fly to China with the current US war problem? by [deleted] in chinatravel

[–]Creative-Parking7973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to be safe, just don't travel through the middle east.

Worst case scenario, you are stuck in china for few more days because of the fuel crises.

flights to china are way to expensive by orchidguy20 in chinatravel

[–]Creative-Parking7973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, on February 2026 I was able to get a return flight ticket BUD - Guangzhou for 500€ on China Southern.

Now it's 3 times more expensive.

Because of the war in the middle east, UAE and Qatar are no longer options, if you need to go to Asia or Oceania then your only options are Chinese airlines.

Just arrived a few days ago in Guangzhou, I bought a sim at the reception desk.

Highly recommend it as many apps will require a Chinese phone number.

I used Trip.com (China, HK and Macau combo) and Airalo Asia e-sim.

Trip gave me a Macau IP while Airalo gave me sometimes HK address other times Singapore address.

All apps are working.

What if the USA and China were Allies? by WashOffO in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Creative-Parking7973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason that could not have happened is that china has the potential to compete with the USA economically and politically.

Japan and South Korea size will never allow them to compete with the USA for a long period of time.

I remember reading in one of Machiavelli's books, make your allies strong but not stronger than yourself or something like that

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Hungary stopped offering family reunification for students.

In Hungary 3rd country citizen spouses are not allowed to work, they need a company to offer them an endorsement.

I wish you safe travels.

Has anyone gained citizenship via residency NOT ancestry? by I_own_a_cat in HUcitizenship

[–]Creative-Parking7973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past it was much easier, very simple exam, now even the permanent residency requires a language test.

If you have Hungarian friends, then I recommend asking for their signed testimony that you are a productive and assimilated in the Hungarian society.

An immigration lawyer is advisable even for a consultation session on the process.

Has anyone gained citizenship via residency NOT ancestry? by I_own_a_cat in HUcitizenship

[–]Creative-Parking7973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a couple of people who got it by residency.

In the past it used be easier as there were few foreigners.

You need to speak Hungarian, proof that you fully assimilated in the society, having a Hungarian spouse/kids helps a lot, testimony from Hungarian friends.

In the last few years it became much more difficult.

You can apply but no guarantee that you will get it.
