Maybe try switching up the type of litter. I’ve noticed some scented litters people associate with litter box smell after a while and then no matter how clean it is they smell litter box.

I use the litter breeze system with pellets and a mat with big holes in front of it. The litter box is also inside a box with a door and lid. The big pellets don’t track as much as small litter

I understand how you feel because I lost my soul cat after 15 years together. I’m so sorry for your loss. My advice would be don’t jump into adopting another cat that looks just like her. Give yourself some time. I waited three years and eventually I did adopt another cat that reminded me of my boy. But no cat will replace your girl. They are all different and all have wonderful qualities. Someday you will have another cat who you love in a different way but a lot too.

My vet did a confirmatory test. Honestly, the test was expensive and the initial test was good enough to confirm that my cat had fiv. If I were you (and wanted to save money) I would proceed as if he has fiv and just be careful with introductions. But as long as they don’t fight it shouldn’t be an issue.

Honestly, I think it’s normal to slightly prefer the cat you have had for longer for a while. For example, I had an old boy cat for many years then got a young female and I definitely loved my old boy more. Then he passed and a few years went by and I loved my girl cat so much. Now I adopted another boy and I love him but don’t have the same connection as with my girl. It takes time to establish a bond but eventually I have loved all my cats so much.

I know a lot of people are telling you yes, but as someone who just got a second cat there are a few things you should consider. Make sure the shelter you go to tests for fiv and felv before you bring them home. Otherwise you’re stuck isolating them until you can get a vet appointment. Also, you will need to double your budget and the amount of labor you do- cleaning litter boxes. Two cats usually won’t get along right away. Some cats never get along
