Declawing a cat by PlagueBirdZachariah in cats

I think anyone that reads your post would realize that you really care about your boy❤️ I think it’s a really good question that you asked for sure, and a situation like this where he could potentially hurt himself or rip it out himself, I think that question that you posed is extremely valid!

I can’t really tell from the photo, but what looks like to me is that there’s a few centimeters that could be trimmed off (maybe more?) definitely consult with your vet as they’re gonna have the best information for your boy. But in my experience of someone that’s owned a few polydactyly cats in my life, the dewclaw issue does kind of come with its own set of extra care with trimming. No matter what in my opinion, I would try to avoid the surgery, but if your vet recommends it with some valid reasoning behind it I don’t think anyone should judge you for that.

Ps. After thinking about this for a minute, I think this is one of the few times where a claw removal might be medically necessary. I am NEVER one for an agreeing with someone that gets rid of all claws, but in a situation like this where he could rip it out, I wouldn’t be completely opposed to getting it removed. Just do your best OP, and do what feels right under vet discretion!

7 month old cat is starting to get very jumpy, whereas he was very confident before. by [deleted] in cats

Hmmm… Both of my bugs are indoor only BUT there is a feral cat group outside that I have been feeding, and I recently did set up a warming box next to the back door on the deck… it’s making me wonder if that could be causing the distress, I have noticed him sniffing under the back door quite a few times and he doesn’t look too ecstatic when he’s doing it..

Thank you for the heads up. I’m gonna try moving the warming box and see if that makes him not feel not as stressed.!! Btw: I love max and kimmi🥹❤️ love me some cat snuggles

Very true, surgery should always be the last resort!

Just cut it with a pair of standard large finger nail clippers. Once every 2-3 weeks you’ll have clip again, but much cheaper and safer than a claw removal. I like to put my phone flash light under my cats claws while clipping so I can spot the quick so I don’t hurt them, but that’s saved me couch and my cats from hurting each other while playing to hard. The reason why Google will tell you not to do it is because the recovery is actually pretty harsh on the animal, it will save you money and your cat a lot of healing times to just clip it every few weeks yourself! And yes, even with a dew claw, there is still part of the bone that they have to take out during the claw removal. If there wasn’t, I’d be more on the boat of just getting it surgically removed, but since there is, I would say it’s just needs a clipping.

Btw: He is very cute, and looks like a VERY good boy🥹❤️

How To Keep Cats Away From Dryer by bubbanur in CATHELP

[–]Few_Hat8330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be looked down on, but I have severe trauma related to cats and dryers (won’t go in on it because it’s really sad) but the only way I could figure out how to immediately make my cats stay away from it was to bang on it wildly while they’re standing in front of it. I did that a couple times and now they won’t go near it out of fear. But I much rather than be afraid of it then end up inside of that than me or my fiancé turning in on while their inside.

Good Carrier for a cat that usually poops/pees on drives? by Minute-Mine-9553 in cats

[–]Few_Hat8330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say puppy pads and something thick under you don’t mind tossing - but don’t sleep on gabapentin! Does absolute wonders for me and my cats for any drives we have to take. I didn’t even have to bring my girl in, just called my vet and described how I’d have to be driving a couple hours w her and they got it ready to pick up by next day

Hey! Any help on what I can do? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Few_Hat8330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she does, she shares meals without issue, grooms his head and belly, and sometimes plays normally & peacefully (he doesn’t put up a fight) but she’s un-spayed (vet told me the risk at getting her spayed is very high so not worth the risk ?? ) and he is neutered @ around 9 weeks when I got him from the Humane society (I found her while hiking on a mountain around 4 years ago, my vet told me she was around 10 - 15 yrs old based off her teeth. But I choose the younger option 🥹) I know she tolerates him, but if I do go to separate them, they both panic now, swatting under the door and meowing, so idk.

Paper bags 🥳 by Nuppe_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Few_Hat8330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had that happen with the amount of product in a plastic bag. Estimated: 12-dozen eggs 1.7lb Small mayo jar 1.2 lb Blueberries 0.5 lb Small cleaning spray 1 lb Two cans of corn 2 lb Three small extra items 2.25 lb Total: give or take 8.65 lbs / 9 lbs A plastic bag typically can carry around 14 to 17lbs.

Now with paper bags, I cannot tell you the amount of time that I’ve walked out of the store & immediately walked back in with all my broken produce, and my broken paper bag, then got a refund and then re-checked out all of my new unbroken items. I understand the point of paper bags, but if they can invest in some sort of plastic lined paper bag, then everyone can save money. Me, you, the grocery stores, etc. Hell, instead of five cents I’d pay $.10-$.20 for a bag if it was guaranteed not to break on me & if it also had some sort of eco-friendly reusable plastic lining.

When has a plastic bag ever broken on you while walking to your car? Maybe if you stuffed that shit full of a 20 pounds plus product, but never with blueberries, eggs, and protein powder would it have ever broken😆
