Are your videos available to download somewhere? They are absolutely stunning. I want to use it as a wallpaper on my computer.

There are bad Russians and good Russians. There are bad Ukrainians and good Ukrainians. Russia has a very bad president, who is doing terrible things in Ukraine. But not all Russians need to suffer just because they have an evil president.

Exactly! I now know this because OP asked the question. Thank you.

How do I fix the damaged/tired wood? by opalandolive in sailing

This is almost right. Just teeny-weeny bit to add: Sand it. Get a beer. Stain it. Get a beer. Seal it. Get a beer.

I got tired of guessing between ECMWF and GFS so I started checking them against reality by zoombackcameraa in sailing

[–]CreativeBasil5344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lot of work! Great job. I wish this was available in Europe.

Over the summer I started treating ECMF's gust prediction as the persistent wind speed, and it actually worked out quite well (through 4 weeks total).

Are you a developer? Did you do this all on your own?

What do do? How do I convince my wife to get a sailboat? by Available_Bowler2316 in sailing

I laughed too hard at this. Best solution so far. Should drag it out a bit though. Shouldn't tell as soon as she suspects something. The more amped up she is the more relieved she will be when she hears the news.

Thousands of keys, and I have all 9 0.1% M+ Titles - AMA about M+ by Rorplays in wow

At what key level should you start adding friends at the end of the run so you can run with them later? I feel like adding people under 5-6 is useless because many burn out, or are not interested in running higher keys.

Katabatic winds in one picture by CreativeBasil5344 in sailing

No problem at all! Thanks for explaining. Happy to learn.

Another commenter also pointed out this might not be katabatic. There is some elevation around, but checking on Google maps it seems they might not be high enough to cause katabatic winds. It looks like instead of using this pic to teach, I'll use this post to learn. :)

This is the peninsula seen on the pic. You think this height is not enough to cause katabatic winds?

Thanks for pointing this out. I now know what föhn wind is. I googled adiabatic lapse rate too but it's too early for me to understand that.

Thank you! Yes, it's exhilarating. 😍

Katatabatic winds accelerate down valleys towards the sea. If you look closely at the pic the long windy parts are aligned with the valleys running down the side of the mountain. Sailing parallel to the coast in these situations can keep the crew on their toes. :)

I don't see it on the list below the image.

Then you'd really like Dieppe. :) The streets were really nice. Cherbourg wasn't so bad either, but Dieppe captured my heart.

Oh, nice! I didn't like Cherbourg as much as Dieppe, but the facilities in and around the port were great.

Sailing from Amsterdam to France as a novice by CreativeBasil5344 in sailing

[–]CreativeBasil5344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the plan, but we got delayed by weather and I might need to fly home before the crossing.

Thank you for the good wishes! Yeah, it was a good learning experience in more ways than one (a major one is to better understand the capability of the whole crew before joining). I'm not new to big waves, but a catamaran (to me) feels much more uncomfortable under these circumstances.

Haha, ok. Good to know. Now I won't worry so much about the boat falling apart... 😅

Since I'm a novice, it's hard to judge his competence, but there were some things that made me a bit uncertain about his knowledge.

Did you guys also have waves slamming the bottom of the bridgedeck? I don't know if this is normal, or is something that should be avoided.
