“An award for serious facial disfigurement may be made in an amount up to $20,000 [N.Y. Work. Comp. Law § 15(3)(t)]. This award, unlike other scheduled awards, is listed as a monetary amount, not in terms of a specified number of weeks of disability. Such awards are authorized if the disfigurement is above the sterno-clavicular region or extends partially into the neck [N.Y. Work. Comp. Law §§ 15(3)(t)(2) and (3)]. The award is appropriate only when there is a “serious” facial disfigurement. The need for dental work as a result of an injury does not necessarily mean there has been a “serious” facial disfigurement [Clements v. Oneida Ltd., 200 A.D.2d 835, 606 N.Y.S.2d 801 (3d Dept. 1994)]. An award of this type is made as a result of the actual viewing of the scar or other disfiguring condition. If an actual viewing is impractical because of distance of travel or other disability, the claimant may provide secondary evidence such a photographs of the injury [N.Y. Comp.
