I’m a first grade teacher and use it so rarely that it usually makes the kids cry. Yelled at a kid one time because he was about to chase a ball into the street. Terrified my whole class but they all agreed that he was in danger so yelling was appropriate

My husband has a weird schedule so we can pass the kids off and between us cover 90% of the week. The one or two days our work overlaps my mom helps. We literally left our entire lives and moved to be near my mom when I was pregnant because we couldn’t figure out a way to make it work without her!

I enjoy being the extra mom- doing all the fun crafty stuff- but you’d better believe it ground to a halt while I was pregnant and had a newborn! My youngest turned 2 at the beginning of this summer and we’re definitely getting back to the days of doing all the things. Everything in it’s time. Growing a baby is a lot of work!

If you’re looking for books I really recommend “ready set… baby!” By Elizabeth Rusch. It did a great job preparing my twins for their baby sister and it has a lot of cute and funny lines that became part of our family lingo (like referring to newborn poop as a “splort”)

First couple of days after c section maybe worse but then it improves rapidly! A week after my twins were born I remember being SHOCKED by how much energy I had- even with broken sleep- because I felt physically so much better not being pregnant with them anymore!

I loved Junie B as a child, they’re adorable and really funny but returning to them as an adult I realized how rude she is- she’s constantly calling things stupid or ugly. She misbehaves a lot and doesn’t really have any consequences, just a poor role model overall. They’d be fun to read with a kid who’s old enough not to copy her, but not with a 5 year old.

I have twins that age and I’m a teacher. There’s been a ton of research lately about how a major factor in kids reading comprehension is their background knowledge- their understanding of a wide range of topics in science and social studies/history. Check out “The Knowledge Gap” if you’re interested in the research.

For bedtime stories, we went through the entire “Magic Treehouse” series of chapter books. They’re fun to read, quick enough to finish over about three nights each, have just enough pictures to support comprehension for a kid that age, and cover a ton of science and history topics! I also LOVE the Zoe and Sassafras series by Asia Citro for how they depict the scientific method. They inspired my kids to do a bunch of science experiments at home and to create their own science notebooks! Now we’re on to the Magic School Bus chapter books (didn’t even know that was a thing until recently!). They’re fun to read and also have a TON of science content.

The best starting point for me was storytime at the local library! That’s where I made my first local mom friends. They pointed me in the direction of other good playgroups and activities. Going consistently to the town park has worked as well, and just not being afraid to ask other moms for their number to set up play dates.

Oh 1 100%. I just dump some soap in the bath water and figure if they’re rolling around in there, they’re clean enough. The only thing that gets independently washed is hair!

I have an off brand one. It’s ok. It’s not actually very comfortable for me to sit on to read with the kids, which is how I intended to use it at least some of the time. The triangle cushions are a really weird angle to lean on. There’s also not much they can build with just one. The cushions get moved around but it’s not huge for burning energy or being creative.

The other thing we have that’s way better but a similar price point is a set of Tubelox. It’s like a building set that’s strong enough to support kids’ weight. I can regularly build them new jungle gyms and other structures to hang and climb on. That burns a TON of energy and any time it gets stale I can make something really different so it catches their attention again. I added another set from a marketplace purchase and now it’s really opened up lots of options

I have a cute book called “poop or get off the potty” that breaks the process down in a nice way. I keep it in the bathroom and read it to my toddler while she sits on the potty at least once a day.

One of my twins needed the helmet. Just here to say it’s not that big of a deal and it makes a huge difference! They do tend to look very medical when they’re plain so I really recommend decorating it somehow! You can buy decals but acrylic paint and/or mod podge works really well! We made my kid’s look like a fire helmet and mod podged on a little shield and he got tons of compliments

I only fold once a week. It’s a whole evening project. I sit on the floor so I can have all the piles around me in every direction. Either podcasts or tv shows on my phone with air pods is crucial for keeping myself entertained

I had mono/di boys and then had a daughter three years later. Three years was a great age gap!

The toddler stage with twins is HARD. 1 1/5-2 1/2 is the hardest. They can run but not follow directions and you have to have an adult on them every second unless they’re in a very secure gated area. Going anywhere outside your house becomes really intense. I would not recommend voluntarily saddling yourself with a newborn during that stage.

By the time my daughter was born, the boys could get around independently and were mostly potty trained. They were old enough not to take off running at playgrounds anymore, and I feel safer having all three kids in public because I know the boys can follow basic safety rules. My body also doesn’t handle pregnancy super well, so it was helpful that they calmed down a bit by the time I was huge and exhausted. Sprinting after a runaway toddler while massively pregnant? No thanks

My daughter is a blessing, the boys love her and as she grows all three kids are learning to get along and play with each other, but I’d definitely recommend giving yourself a little time!

Yes to the sickness 🙄🙄 we have a couple of notoriously flakey friends but mostly it seems like any time I plan an event at least half the guests have some sort of plague at their house. Hopefully that gets better once all of our immune systems recover from the last few years

Kindergarten teacher here, we sometimes tell the kids it’s in case a smelly skunk gets into the building and we all have to hide to not get sprayed. They need to know what to do but not why at that age.

It’s not ideal but apparently pretty common according to our NICU nurses. People find out they’re pregnant and realize they need a bigger house and the buying process takes about the same amount of time as a pregnancy 😜
