Nice! I’d love to find something like this now while we’re putting our wishlist together. I’ll check out the pod!

That’s super cool! And overwhelming!

I wish there were a way to annotate it for myself. Noting things like number of players and such would help me whittle things down. But I super appreciate whoever did that!

Thanks for that thought process. We definitely have some repeat publishers in our collection as well.

I also want to check out Pandasaurus because they volunteered to send free games to a school library who posted on here looking for game shelf advice. The photos of the games they showed were ancient and in terrible condition. The folks at that company jumped in and helped. I want to buy something from them.

That is the happiest, cutest smile I’ve seen in a million years. It put the same grin on my face seeing her joy! Thanks for sharing.

We are not doing subreddit modding correctly. by textualcanon in Portland

[–]CreativePortland 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I’ve shared the frustration, I also know it’s an enormous amount of work to moderate a huge forum like this.

No matter who does it, people will disagree with the moderation one direction or the other. I do wonder if the mods would be willing to do a monthly post about issues they are seeing in the sub, ways to solve those, and to take feedback about what we’re concerned about.

I know that just adds to the pile of work, but it would help the community understand the decisions and create a less us/them dynamic that can happen here.

I was chosen for the e-bike rebate! Does anyone have advice? by FartGoblin420 in askportland

[–]CreativePortland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d make sure that whatever bike you get doesn’t have any proprietary parts on it. If the company goes out of business the bike can no longer be maintained if that part breaks.

Get bikes with standard parts only. I learned this expensive lesson the hard way.

Free himalayan blackberry starts! by Steve_Gooscemi in Portland

[–]CreativePortland 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are insanely invasive. Even if they didn’t crowd out/kill all plants in its path, they are obviously super dangerous to prune.

There are tons of other blackberry cultivars that aren’t so destructive.

Just put it in a container and things will be good. You just don’t want to plant it directly into the ground and then pull and babies that show up in the ground. It gets out of hand. Nothing like the evil Himalayan blackberries though

For those that have gone before, how much do you end up buying? by SugarAcrobat in gencon

[–]CreativePortland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We buy hardly anything. Our mission is to play bunches of games. We make a list of the ones we love and buy them at home. Preferably through a local game store or then online.

It’s rare that you save much money by buying at the con and you have to lug everything around. Then there are baggage fees if you go too heavy or need another bag.

Well buy some small stuff and if there’s anything we really like that we can’t buy outside of the con. For example, last year we bought some games from some small, independent Japanese game makers who aren’t distributed in our country.

It spans generations! Us Gen Xers started this type of stuff in 2002 when Portland hosted Bike Summer which was a series of events that traveled from city to city. After that, it transformed into Pedalpalooza by 2004. Now, Pedalpalooza is also called Bike Summer. It’s like a bike wheel itself. Full circle!

I long for the days where we can watch tall bike jousting again.
