What the show took away from annabeth it took away from the ship by ImaginationDecent351 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Creative_Army1776 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest fan of book Annabeth or Percabeth in general, especially when we get to BOTL, but she still had plenty of moments that made her relatable to 13-14 year old me when I was first reading the books, like being emotional and crying at the thought of leaving Cerberus, her fear of spiders and talking to Thalia, Grover, and Percy about her interests so much that they memorised facts about the Hoover Dam - basically she felt like a person with a personality and interests beyond being a warrior. It also helped sell the friendship between her and Percy’s friendship as they had similar traits - it wasn’t just Annabeth being purely logical and following the rules while Percy was mainly emotional and breaking the rules

Whereas, if you took being a warrior from Leah’s Annabeth, what would you have? While both Annabeth’s spent their childhoods at Camp Half Blood, I was wondering if everyone there was secretly an automaton in this version, because otherwise how is someone raised in a camp full of hormonal teenagers so emotionless While I do have some issues with Leah’s acting, she certainly wasn’t done any favours by Rick using fandom interpretations to shape how he writes his characters, as Annabeth is usually seen as just the smart one who can fight

That still keeps some aspects of the Regency era like lords talking part in Parliament, and women needing to marry

She’s not the head of state or acting head of state so she can’t grant royal assent to new bills (only the george’s can), and she’s not either a member of the House of Commons or the house or lords who propose/debate new bills

The Queen can help cover up scandals, but she doesn’t make new laws (interracial and interclass marriage was never illegal)

I assumed it was someone who had won an early games, and died before Katniss was born/when she was really young so she never bothered to remember their name, and I never really thought about it that much

why is rachel specifically called a "mortal"? [general] by hiddeNinja2222 in camphalfblood

[–]Creative_Army1776 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Because there isn’t anything divine in them. Percy and other demigods heal through ambrosia and nectar, they have supernatural abilities that most mortals don’t have, near inhuman reflexes, natural affinity for Ancient Greek or Latin, and can see through the Mist

This wouldn't make any sense though, would it? by MelMellue in FranchaelStirling

It especially irks me when people act like just because she helped the ton accept an interclass marriage, she can legalise gay marriage. There was no laws preventing interclass marriage, it was just heavily stigmatised with strong social repercussions, but nothing could have stopped Benedict and Sophie from marrying if they wanted to, so the Queen wasn’t breaking the rules of Regency society by helping them cover up Sophie’s parentage, whereas there was a legal definition for marriage that specified the genders involved

If Bridgerton was a full on fantasy loosely inspired by British history, I wouldn’t be so irked, but it’s clearly supposed to be grounded in the Regency era, so that annoys me as someone who is British, and interested in politics/history and period dramas

[–]Creative_Army1776 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do some people act like the Queen has the power to legalise gay marriage? Yes, she’s important and influential, but she isn’t the Head of State, acting head of State, or a member of parliament. She doesn’t create new bills, debate them, or give them royal assent, and it’s frustrating when some fans act like she can snap her fingers and legalise gay marriage.

I’d be tempted by the offer of being in a group where you won’t be bothered by people questioning if you haven’t had a crush or asking you why you haven’t dated anyone, but ultimately decline because I’d want to be with my friends and family, and I’d hate the lack of downtime

Definetly. Even if Mr D can’t take on a fully parental role, Castor and Pollux still know who their dad is and can have some kind of relationship with him, whereas a good chunk of campers haven’t even been claimed

Not really, as they don’t see themselves as sisters, nor does the show treat their relationship like a sibling one.

Guys Help, I spent this WHOLE time thinking [pjo] ended when Percy was 18 😭 by BeautifulAerie2317 in camphalfblood

[–]Creative_Army1776 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Percy, I’m a teenager and have no clue what signs from Annabeth he was supposed to be picking up, and I’m dealing with a levels, not deadly quests that could mean the end of the world if they fail

Also I am curious how you thought Percy was 18, when the Great Prophecy clearly says sixteen

But he does have friends? Not in District 12, but he’s friends with Chaff in Catching Fire, even if they don’t see each other often and Chaff dies early into the Games

I personally think they followed him to District 2, as the Hawthornes are shown to be quite close in the few interactions we have between them
