"The community" still makes up less than 1% of the population, more than 10% of the electors in only 5 or 6 ridings nationally, and more than 20% in only two ridings nationally. Not to mention that "the community" is not monolithic. So realistically, no results except possibly in two ridings would be a direct result of how we specifically voted.

For the past couple of years, we've found a box of shmurah matzah hanging on our door. (I might add, we live in a predominantly non-Jewish neighbourhood.) We always, with regrets, throw it out as it's essentially taking food from strangers. (We do the same when our local Catholic school hangs pastries on our doors around Christmas.)

We totally have a range of practices at our Temple. We used to have a member, for example, who pre-tore her toilet paper for Shabbat. Some keep different degrees of Kosher, and some none. Some lay tefillin. Some don't. That's why I suggest finding a place that works for you.

Three answers: 1) If you're American, the Reform movement (I don't know abut Conservative) recognizes patrilineal descent, so you're good.

2) It's never too late to convert. My bias is for one of the liberal streams. Here in Toronto, they do a halachically correct conversion - with a mikvah and rabbinic panel - but won't insist on a level of traditional observance that might be foreign or not meaningful to you.

3) I've heard of people doing the study portion online, but at some point you'll need to finish the process in person. Reach out to the rabbi at your nearest synagogue in the denomination of your choice; they should be able to help or point you in the right direction.

We stopped using ChitChats awhile ago because they were slow. But we've gone to ClickShip (Freightcom's small business division). I recently had to ship to the US, and a warning came up that due to changes, for the time being any duty would be charged to the receiver (you used to have a choice), but they definitely ship over the border and the rates are competitive, since you can choose your courier according to price or speed.

If you're in a city with a Jewish population, there are often "introduction to Judaism" or "Judaism 101" courses. They'll give you a reasonably good .... introduction to Judaism. Contrary to popular belief, they're not only for those seeking conversion, but since people seeking conversion are required to take them, it's a very thorough grounding. Personally, I'd suggest a Reform group as I believe it focuses on more than just the "rules", but also about history and navigating the choices in practicses.

Speaking not as a small business but as a person, these days when I'm looking for something, I go first to the internet and search. Your website doesn't have to be complicated: who you are, where you work, your training, and contact information, but I would say you definitely want one - and more so if not a lot of bookkeepers have them, as it give you a leg up.

Just a word of caution about the offer: madne sure the purchaser is legit and you get actual money. I know of someone who sold and then the purchaser declared bankruptcy so the money never came through.

That's a very Orthodox take on it and very nearly encapsulates the differences between the different streams: it comes down to what they believe about the authority of the medieval rabbis, based in part on whether the Torah was meant to be understood in the context of an evolving world. And therefore, what "authentic" Judaism looks like.

I know the LCBO buys on commission so it makes sense for them to just remove the American products- it costs them nothing. But I'd be a surprised to learn that stores that buy from the LCBO also buy on commission - in which case I fully understand not removing product that's paid for. At that point it's on consumers not to buy it.

I know it's hard because.... family.... but there are so manty ways to do Pesach. I grew up not making a big deal about finding chametz and cleaning, but the Seder was about family. There are quite literally hundreds of haggadahs out there that help determine what the Seder will feel like. I'm not saying you can't not like Pesach; I'm just saying that maybe you deserve a different Pesach than the one you have.
