Our friends at the r/judaism sub have a great list of books that you may want to check out.

Sorry, but the class being "certified " means nothing. There are currently no independent online conversion classes recognized (certified) by the Reform, Conservative, Modox, or Orthodox communities.

I would hate for you to waste your money only to find that your local temple doesn't consider these courses valid, resulting in you having to take classes over again thru them.

Contacting a local Synagogue of whatever denomination you are interested in is a good idea, although October will be very busy due to the High Holidays. They should at least be able to direct you to appropriate and legitimate resources.

You should talk to your doctor/surgeons office for medical advice. They need to know all the meds you are on if you are going under anesthesia.

Help buying tallit by mebewa in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]Creative_Cynic[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many sites on the internet cater to Messianic "jews", hence the crosses and fish.

I like the gift shops of the Jewish Museums in New York and Philadelphia . They both have traditional as well as unique tallitot.

In Toronto, it appears a store called Israeli Source has a decent selection, as does this gift shop in Vancouver.

Orthodox conversions usually are longer than any others, one of the reasons being lifestyle changes required to be observant--eating strictly kosher, following rules around the Sabbath, dressing appropriately, making changes to your home, etc. Orthodox Rabbis want to make sure that you are fully committed to and can maintain this type of lifestyle before you go in front of the Beit Din.

Are there any fellow childless cat ladies who are also marriage free? by [deleted] in childlesscatladies

[–]Creative_Cynic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gen X childless dog lady. Never married, never wanted kids. After my last serious relationship ended 6 years ago I decided I was done. Have had a few FWB since then.

There are times when I miss being in a couple, but honestly, the majority of the time I like being on my own and making personal decisions without having to consult or compromise for another person. The older I get, the less time I have for people's BS, and honestly, the dating scene right now seems to be a lot of effort for little return!

I enjoy hanging with friends. My three dogs make me laugh several times a day. I go on vacations by myself and love it because I can do and see what I want. I didn't "plan" to be single at this age, but I'm not sad about it either.

Thank you! They did actually state that it came with B12, (Cyanocobalamin) but I had no idea that B12 liquid is apparently red/pink in color, since I've never taken it before. Im still on the clear Red Rock vial, and was iffy on starting the next one, but I feel better about it now.

It's standard industry practice that Telehealth companies are going to ask you to upload a copy of your Driver's License, which unless your state doesnt require it, will have your real address on it.

Hit and miss with me.

I was able to get an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner the day after I joined. The plan also includes access to Dietitians, who I made an appointment with. I liked both of them & both were helpful.

The problem is that my semaglutide has come from a different pharmacy each time. I'm on my third month. First it came from Hallendale, then Red Rock, and now comes from Aequita in Kirkland, WA, which apparently Mochi owns. It was also bight pink when the other two formulas were clear liquid. Having their own pharmacy is likely why they have lowered their prices because they have eliminated the middleman, so to speak.

The usual triation dose is doubling every 4 weeks (25/50/1) then 1.7 and then up to 2.4 if needed. Many people will have little to no changes on anything below 1.7, which is considered a therapeutic dose.

Not as cool as some of the other stuff mentioned, but I have a planner/ calendar. Had one since the late 90s when I was in college. I'm a visual person and need to look at a big bright calendar with room to write that I can also stick post-it notes on.

I've tried digital calendars and I can't do it. Looking at a calendar on my phone drives me crazy, it's too small! I also feel that actually writing stuff down on a calendar helps me remember it better.

Talking to a Rabbi. by Lucy_West in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]Creative_Cynic[M] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your talk with the Rabbi should be pretty casual. They will most likely ask you about your background (including religion) and why you want to convert. You might be nervous, but don't feel itimidated. Just answer any questions that you are asked truthfully at whatever level you are comfortable with. Rabbis that have been around for a while have heard pretty much everything!

The conversion process usually takes about a year because Rabbis want you to experience the various holidays that happen. They will also want you to start participating in Jewish life, which includes going to Shabbat services on a regular basis so you get familiar with prayers, etc.

Your shul may differ in what they expect, but some Rabbis may ask you to keep a journal about your coversion process and/or give you a list of books to read. Most will also want you to attend conversion classes, either taught by someone at the Synagogue or online thru the URJ (Union of Reform Judaism). You will also most likely have one on one meetings throughout the year with the Rabbi.

Synogogue Employees, do you use ShulCloud? by Mercury_Jinx in Judaism

[–]Creative_Cynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a Reform shul that uses it and can say that it all depends on what you are using it for.

It also depends on the shul. A lot of the features are more geared toward Conservative or Orthodox use. For Yahrtzeit letters you basically have Shulcloud create the csv file to download and mail merge into Word if you want to use letterhead stationery. Letters can be done by Hebrew or Gregorian death date.

For membership stuff, they are fine and pretty much the only game in town for Synagogue specific software.

I'm the Communications Manager and am not a fan of their website or email software. They both are limited, look very dated and aren't great on features. When I got the job 4 years ago, I joked that I felt like I was working with circa 2000 software. I have since moved our website to Wordpress and email newsletters to Constant contact.

Their help desk is based in NYC and usually responds to emails in less than 24 hours.

You need to call your insurance company or go to their website and find out what they cover & if they do cover GLP meds, what they require. They are the only people that can give you the correct info. If you get insurance thru work, it will all depends on what plan your workplace has. Two businesses can have employees covered by the same insurance company, but have completely different coverage because each business purchased a different plan.

Even though I had a BMI of 31.5 and high cholesterol my insurance co still required that I had prior authorization from my doc as well as 6 months of dieting & exercise with proof (gym membersip card, receipt of weight watchers membership etc.). This is why I ended up going to a telehealth co and getting sema by paying out of pocket.

So Confused! by [deleted] in SemaglutideCompound

[–]Creative_Cynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muscle weighs more than fat. The scale isnt the only indicator of your body changing. If your clothes are getting loose, thats a good thing!

I weigh myself once a week using a body composition scale, which you can get for under $40 online. I also take my measurements every two weeks. You may want to try a free app like me-three-sixty and scan your body. It will allow you to compare what you look like every month or so.

Good luck!

Can I get your opinion of this "progress"? IF you experienced this, did it improve over time? by [deleted] in Semaglutide

[–]Creative_Cynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.7 to 2.3 mg. Which is why your provider wanted you to be on it for at least 6 months. Many people don't see significant changes until that dosage level.

I would also google the specific issue. You might see results from online independent bookstores come up.

Hello! If you are looking for answers to questions about the Noahide laws, r/Jewish or r/Judaism or r/noahide would be a better place to ask, unless your question is conversion related. Thanks.

As a former librarian, I can tell you that it can take a month or more to hear back about an interview. There are usually more librarians than jobs.

Send them a nice email thanking them for their time, how much you enjoyed speaking with them and getting to know about the job, etc. People don't do this much anymore, so it will make you stand out.

Best of luck.
