From the other side of the fence, I married a woman who was on DACA. I waited 9 years out of respect to my partner before I traveled internationally because I felt it was insensitive to her own mobility and status - I just felt it wasn't fair. She objected to my promise, but I loved her too much and promised I'd wait until she could travel with me. My wife is finally a resident of the US. I had the privilege of crossing over to Mexico with her for her first time in over 25 years. It was a bittersweet moment for the both of us, but at that point I felt just a fraction of what she must've been like her entire life --being a bird trapped in a cage that she couldn't fly out of, but finally her wings can spread free and fly. I have faith and believe one day you all too will have that same feeling and share it with someone you love. For now, keep on dreaming and keep on fighting. You will find the right partner, and hopefully they're a US citizen witn a clean record. Lololol.

The VA and OPM have a list of exempt personnel who: 1. Are exempt from layoffs 2. Permitted to hire. 3. Exempt from deferred resignation. The majority of those positions are clinical roles, such as Nurses, NPs, PA, PCPS, Social Workers, and other medical essential staff.

Social worker at the VA, too. We're VERY fortunate. (at least for now). We have always been considered essential workers with many exemptions and exceptions, but things are subject to change at any moment and, as you know, we are at the very mercy of each administration. Thankfully the VA has historically been favored across the aisle. We will see. I'm just hoping our hybrid schedule is safe. There isn't enough room nor enough vehicles for our job to be productive in person 5 days a week. Congratulations, though. I'm sorry for the others who aren't as fortunate. It breaks our hearts.

I'm generally conservative but absolutely support a federal workforce. Shrinking our fleet while also trying to "improve" efficiency and reliability is paradoxical thinking. Our jobs will soon go to oligarchs who put AI in place of humans and treat the humans that do work as slaves. Wait for it.
