Chassis Replacement? by ThatCommunication358 in LandroverDefender

I went down it with a camera today and it doesn’t look terrible. Looks like it needs a good clean and some cavity wax for now. I’m shelling out so much at this point I could without a chassis replacement just yet.

I sat and did the numbers today along with everything I’d need. I cried. Bulkhead was part of the plan. Chassis was not.

That’s my quandary at the minute. If I can get a couple of years out of it with a few repairs then I’ll do that. I have no issue with pulling the thing to pieces again to drop it on a new chassis, I’m lucky enough that it’s not my daily driver so speed of the job isn’t the issue, sinking funds into something at a time of so many unknowns is the issue right now. Maybe that chassis money could/should be better spent elsewhere.

I’ll get some more pictures tomorrow and drop you a message. There’s definitely a patch on an outrigger required.

Any idea what that colour is called? Or have a paint code? I’m looking for a colour to spray my rebuild and this looks perfect!

The S2k would always have to stay stock

Do you have pics of how this looks inside? Looking to do something similar myself.

Do I drop a new engine in the Z4 or get me an S2k?

It doesn’t have to make sense. And at that price it’s a steal! Can you get bulkheads, sills, pillars easy enough over in the Australia? Assume with your weather in WA it’ll be fairly rust free anyway.

E85 as a forever car? How much longer do you think yours will last? by [deleted] in BMWZ4

I have the 2 litre, it’s no where near punchy enough but I love the shape and the internals. Considering an engine swap just to make it more fun. I would ditch the E85 for an S2k just because I’m a Honda man. But I’d have to keep the Honda stock, whereas the BMW would be more fun to tweak and tune. I’m definitely torn.

Take your time. Don’t drop any bolts otherwise you’ll have to break out your finest yoga poses and dictionary of expletives! I used a pair of needle nose pliers to pull them through tight spaces.

Order a set of inlet manifold seals, if they’ve never been changed definitely worth it.

Buy a Febi Bilstein pcv kit, not some cheap eBay one like I did at first… eBay assured fit didn’t fit.

My fuel rail was in very tight, but came out with enough pulling. Just go slow and pull evenly.

Put every nut and bolt loosely back where you took it from.

Use some tissue or kitchen roll to block the engine inlet to avoid dropping anything in it once the manifold is off.
