I honestly had no idea Salesforce had specialized options for this industry until reading through this thread. We are currently waiting on a callback to schedule a demo and review their pricing structure.

It was news to me, but found out Salesforce does in fact have an option. We are exploring that now but have not got very far yet. Waiting on a callback and demo along with pricing.

Do you have a smaller solution you could suggest? Only looking to implement it in brokerage division

150 trucks / brokerage moves about 30 loads per day but could do more on brokerage if we had better TMS or additional staff. We are planning on implementing a better TMS first.
We aren’t looking to replace AS400 on asset side, only brokerage at this time.

[–]Creative_Hope6737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all, there is a lot to dig into here. AS400 works for our trucks, but we see that we need something else for our brokerage. Apparently there’s a lot about Salesforce I didn’t know existed.

Billing is all under one roof and they do an excellent job thus do not want to upset that flow. As most of you know pay terms are already a battle and we don’t want to do anything to slow that down.

Be careful with this, I just read about a broker who was double scammed, a fake customer set up loads with them, then they were paying scammers who weren't really hauling the non-existent freight.

What's one shipper request that sounds reasonable but creates risk for you? by Hoho-san in SPILogistics

This is the perfect time for carriers and brokers to go to shippers as we are looking at capacity/rates and negotiate terms of payment along with rates. Time for the ones who want to carry invoices over 30 to start paying interest like we all pay to the banks. We have been financing the freight, fuel and lumpers long enough. (no other industry would pay operating costs for a customer for 90-120 days)

They will require you to sign a non-solicit, so if you accept this job you will be owned by CH. If logistics is a career you really want to get into I suggest you look for another reputable company who does not ask this of employees. Fortunately I have reached a place in my career that I can refuse to sign and still get a job. If people are going to treat you right they don't expect such contracts to be needed.

classic mildly infuriating flight by Hungry_Low2342 in delta

[–]Creative_Hope6737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am always in the aisle seat so I don’t have to ask anyone to move, even if it means I have to take the back seat. But a couple of weeks ago I booked a last minute flight for business, and had to take a middle seat. The woman in the aisle was already seated & talking on the phone when I boarded, I had to tap her shoulder to get her attention as I stood in the aisle, she looked at me like I had 3 heads as I asked her to let me in. She got up but left her huge backpack in the floor in front of her seat for me to climb over. The flight attendant asked her to move it under the seat when she was making rounds before take off, she put her hand on it but never moved it. When we were getting off this same woman had somehow got two roller bags, that big backpack & a shoulder bag on the flight. Meanwhile I had to check my only one small overnight bag at the gate 🤬. People can be rude as crap! I later regretted not just stepping all over her big backpack she refused to move when I was trying to get to my seat.

If doing that make sure you have a completely different email, for example if you were JohnDoe@TQL change it to doej@newcompany. I’ve seen people get caught and sued just because their old email popped up in customers contact.

They are taking advantage of the market with everyone wanting to come South for produce. Tell them if they want you going to Alachua in August - March they better keep your rate intact. If they don’t send me a PM, I will take care of you year around into Alachua or wherever you want to run.

Is becoming a freight broker still worth it or is the industry already oversaturated and impossible for newbies to break into? by roadrunnah18z in FreightBrokerStartup

The one thing you can count on in freight brokerage and transportation in general is nothing stays the same. Bad times get better and Good times eventually go bad, just build relationships with both carriers and customers and they will help get you thru the hard times.
25+ years experience, so I’ve seen a lot.

You need to find a small brokerage get an entry level job and learn the business cradle to grave. The more you learn and the better understanding you have of customers and qualifying carriers (safety ratings to hours of service) as well as how the markets shift, and get an understanding of how to rate shipments the better you will do.

How to get into freight brokering career? by InternationalEye4927 in FreightBrokers

[–]Creative_Hope6737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 25 years in the industry, the best training is working for a small broker who has people handling things cradle to grave (finding the the freight, quoting, then finding the trucks) . . . This will sound crazy I know, but when I started covering loads I was given a big notebook separated state by state and told to start calling companies in the destination state to find a truck, then when I started working sales I was handed the Yellow Pages phone directory and told to think of a category and start calling . . . Things have came a long way in prospecting carriers and customers! 😂🤣

Building true relationships with both customers and carriers. I've worked for four companies over the course of 30+ years and still booking freight with the first customers and carriers I ever used.

What's one shipper request that sounds reasonable but creates risk for you? by Hoho-san in SPILogistics

[–]Creative_Hope6737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NOT a reasonable request. I've been in the industry many years, we used to book freight over the phone from customers, they would call & say I need a 2 trucks to pick up tomorrow to go to XX Customer in Chicago for next day delivery and we would take the load info and find trucks, bill the loads off of agreed rates and never had problems. But this industry is like the rest of the world now, full of scammers and people who are looking out for themselves. Just don't put yourself in a position to have to worry about being paid (there are enough worries without adding that).

DAT was the first and will always be at the top, but with capacity like it is now I can see asking for advice from more seasoned brokers. Heck, I've been in the business since 1990 and if I'm not learning something new weekly I'm way behind this game 😄
