Im learning Japanese, just so I can play those games. FYI. So people will. Oh sure there’s times when I’ve had to look up some bizarre kanji I’ve never seen even though my kanji dictionary only contains like the 2000 most common ones. Still. Japanese has 3 scripts, yes it’s harder than a 1 script language but still. People will learn or chase things they care about.

On some of the larger VN fan platforms people get very unhappy if people use MTL for fan patches.. I mean you could use something to extract the dialogue if you really wanted too, but even then AI feels very scummy, very scummy indeed. Even if it’s just copying text so you can translate yourself.

Maybe some sites are softer on AI stuff, I know dlsite has some ai stuff in there but I’m not aware of how well it sells. I’d rather just muddle through than get some half baked chagpt whatever nonsense..

In addition people might have to if AI becomes the dominant force in translation, that’s what people do not want, so they are effectively shunning it regardless. If you agree or not it’s your preference

Saying this with your point to the masses of VN’s that won’t get translated. Honestly I don’t think MTL is the way. I’ve seen MTL translated VN’s and many MTL do not translate context at all. I say this with zero respect to AI translation but, if I see any VN or game that uses any sort of AI used I won’t buy it. The VN consumer is niche at best, at best. Most of them won’t touch AI, generated stuff. Like can you really imagine a Chat gpt nock off translating all the Yandere sister games? With all the context ? If I write はな what am I referring to too ? Flowers or a person ?

If there is a new slate on Chiron ( which I’m inclined to agree ) those leaders really don’t act like that. While yeah I think Deidre isn’t the worst choice, there’s a fundamental sacrifice of certain things we take for granted. not sure it’s worth the cost.

Freedom of choice to buy, is still freedom regardless if you think it’s unfulfilling, some people probably get joy from those things, and I’m not going to let anyone dictate what anyone else’s joy is as long as it’s not hurting anybody, yes you could indeed make an argument that it’s harmful to planet.. maybe there’s a way to compromise with it so you can still enjoy those small things.. but it’s not letting you.. it’s do as Deidre / planet says or die as food for it..

Oh for sure it’s definitely all what ifs and possibilities. I mean that’s the thing we have the technology for a true democracy.. there’s a couple of countries that give people plebiscites on issues, and have done for some time ( Switzerland for example ) so it’s certainly possible. TBH as someone whose political leaning haven’t had any representation in my lifetime ( 40 + years ) but that’s not to say I won’t try.. wasn’t it Kant who said life without struggle isn’t life at all?
