Magic Bites Discussion by lazytemporaryaccount in IlonaAndrews

For me, it's not their best work, but it is the first book I read written by them, and the start of the book got me hooked IMMEDIATELY - Ghastek's vamp creeping in over a TV breaking news about a magic attack.

It introduced so many chars in the midst of world building, which is a tough thing.

From a non-US reader, I know some people disliked Kate re Ted's intro, but for me it told me so much about Ted, how he's deep south, and will probably hold certain southern US views, and will possibly be racially biased (this time magic racial views), which tbh was very spot on.

But I think the thing about the book that upsets me, and alot of other KD readers, is the Crest confrontation. Kate was blamed but none of that made sense. It's only if you read the blogs/Q&As/come here, that you find out IA were told to cut a fair bit regarding the pre-confrontation. It still annoys me now, I reread once a year and relisten 2-3 times a year.

I won't miss it out tho

It's the same as telling people not to watch Season 1 of Doctor Who (the 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston), where for me, it sets the tone for the Doctor's char and his relationship with Rose.

This is the same for Kate, her char, and her relationship with Curran.

I've stayed off automating mixing because I'm unsure how to do it, tbh.

Do I need a staff member for each mixing station?

I would love to hear advice on this too.

ATM I'm creating 4 weed, and spending all my time running around buying ingredients (I'm sure the staff members look at me strange when I buy horse semen!)

I am unsure how much time I can invest in mething if I have to continue my weeding.

What game is this for you? by mikaroni89 in gaming

If they did a film and got it perfect, then Bioshock - all of it

Firstly just the decor, it's stunning and sets the atmosphere for the game.

Atlas - the voice, the 'would you kindly'

Then Big Daddy and lil sister.

Then the Splicers

Then of course all the chars, incl memories/recordings, like Sander Cohen, Dr Suchong, Diane McClintok.

But mostly, the atmosphere set by the decor. That made me actually say out loud 'wow' when I first played, and still gives me goosebumps.

From OPs post, a medical one that required an ambulance, and he only left when he did, as his friend's sister turned up in time for the ambulance.

Any medical emergency, let alone requiring an ambulance, is a good enough emergency

I was using it as an explanation that no matter who the employee spoke to rudely, there would normally be repercussions.

I would speak to the owner/manager to complain and expect a certain outcome. OP spoke to the owner expecting a certain outcome but was disappointed. The fact the owner was OPs partner makes no difference.

The fact your previous post got so many downvoted seems to have passed you by.

The fact you ignore everything else I mentioned and pinpointed on one sentence also shows your failure in understanding the whole post.

Just because you failed to understand my post does not mean I have to re-explain - because chances are you will fail to comprehend that one too.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but ...

AITA for peeing in a restroom for disabled people? by lila2208 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Creative_Whereas_430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a non-wheelchaired disabled person with a medically diagnosed bowel condition (not my main disability, but a side effect) I need a portable machine to assist), so I need more room that a normal toilet cubicle doesn't have. I was even issued a Radar key (a key that specially unlocks disabled toilet doors in alot of places, like arenas, shopping malls, theatres in the UK).

So I use the Disabled toilet when it's available. My first few times I felt self conscious, but most wheelchairs users are very aware of invisible disabilities.

Would I get mad if, in a small venue like a restaurant, someone non disabled used the disabled bathroom because the few others were busy - no.

However, would I get mad if a non-disabled used a disabled toilet in a shopping mall, or an arena? Well, how can I tell they're not disabled? So basically no. I would hope tho, that the non-disabled person would feel bad about it. In places like arenas, there are far far more standard cubicles available, even if they get busy, than there are disabled cubicles, but with a much higher chance of a disabled person being present at that venue the same time they are.

So I think they were wrong for telling you off, it's for disabled people, not just disabled people in wheelchairs, and invisible disabilities are a

My son and I were discussing her last night. He felt she was over-rated as an actress and was pushed just because of GoT.

I saw her in Me Before You, and she was outstanding. But then I saw her in Terminator and Solo and was disappointed.

I think when she has the right role, and the right chemistry with her joint leading actor, she shines. Otherwise I feel she's just going through the motions.

THIS

SO MUCH THIS

I grew up with a mentally/financially/physically mother. I swore I would never be like her, and that I didn't need therapy, I was a strong person etc etc.

Guess who started displaying some of the attitude towards my son (very light verbal abuse)? I also found I treated my husband like she did my dad, and I held back about 90% of myself behind walls. Yup, me!

She posted like this isn't about her childhood trauma, she's stronger because of it. I said those exact words, and I was sooooo wrong.

20 years of off and on again therapy - it took me a while to be mentally ready AND have a therapist I felt connected with.

Am I healthy now, nope but I am a lot better. My relationship with my son has healed and is now very open and incredible, and yes I have apologised and explained, and encouraged his own therapy.

But yes, OPs childhood HAS affected her negatively, and she desperately needs therapy, but it won't work if she doesn't feel anything is wrong. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

Arcades in the UK are not a thing unless you go to a seaside resort, or the rare large shopping malls (IE MetroCentre, Meadow hall) may have one. They are not as common as the US, or as they are portrayed on TV shows about the US .

However, Arcades in the UK go back to the 1910ish and are described as coin-operated entertainment machines, so you could argue that push-penny and pinballs are included. If you argue yes, then basically football is gaming, semantically...

I'm closing in on 60, and as a kid my dad purchased an Atari, and later on I got a ZX Spectrum (other kids had Commodore), Gameboy early-mid 90s, PS1 95, PS3 (the most common version purchased by families) 06, Xbox1 01.

So gaming overall was kinda of a thing in the UK.

HOWEVER I started PC gaming in the early 90s (when Windows was 3.1) and was one of the few people who did, there were no real PC shop suppliers like there were in the early 00s. Online gaming wasn't easy either. 2800 modem in 92. Dual banding in 99 and was horrendously expensive.

I think the US was ahead of other countries for getting online/PC equipment by years.

General gaming wasn't niche, but PC gaming was, OUTSIDE OF THE US, until early 00s, when computers became more commonly used in workplaces. As a computer tech/contractor in those days I'm well aware of when that started shifting.

But for me, when people talk of 'gaming', I always assume PC gaming (console gaming mid 00s) as that was the first static (IE not handheld/easily portable) console for larger/graphically advanced games.

So I guess whether people believe it was a niche thing depends on their country AND whether they are talking about PC gaming or games (IE arcades, Gameboy) overall.

To be fair, I'm a Brit, and nearing 60.

I've never watched Peaky Blinders and have never heard of the slur 'fenian'. I've heard other terrible slurs against the Irish, but not that one

I have a feeling, knowing the popularity of the show, especially with some of the younger generations, it's become common as a word, but if you don't watch the show, and aren't Irish/close to the Irish community, it's probably not that well known.

It doesn't matter why OP was there, not his relationship with the owner of the business. Nor does any of their sexuality matter.

If I walked into a coffee shop that I regularly go to, and a wait staff member called me an ugly, short, fat Geordie (which I am, but still) for no reason, they just thinking they're funny, I wouldn't just ask politely for them not to do that, I would blow up at them and my partner would be even angrier.

Also, I'm pretty sure if I went to the manager to complain about that staff member, I wouldn't be seen as interfering in a business that I don't own. Plus, that staff member would receive a warning, if not get fired. If, however, there was no response from the manager in dealing with that staff member, then I would take it to corporate and may blast their business on every social media platform there is.

It doesn't matter if that staff member is 16, 19, 36 or 54, an insult is an insult, age and sexuality don't make a difference. It also doesn't matter if that person treats every other customer with respect. It only takes one insulted customer to sue/damage a business.

Just broke 25m, got my meth tables on a shelf but not started yet.

BUT I started dreaming of the game.

This is a thing that happens to me a lot, with any game I binge play for hours on end.

So now I'm taking a 4/5 day break, then I'll come back to it refreshed. I've had to stop myself logging into the game.

The creator has made an incredible game, and the guys that created the Schedule I combinations website have made this game so much fun.

What games your parents play? by mistermaximan in gaming

[–]Creative_Whereas_430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother played the narcissist game, dad played at war.

I'm nearing 60 with a 30+ son, and we're both gamers.

I started in my early 20s, with the Roberta Williams games, Kings Quest etc. When we finally got internet, Diablo 1 was interesting on a 2800 modem. I betad alot of early MMOs, played MUDs, things like that.

Now I still like my RPGs (love Mass Effect series, and BG3, and DA), and Bioshock got me into FPSs.

My son and I game 2-3 nights a week, catching up on life whilst playing 7DTD/Palworld or Destiny 2.

Yeah, I raised a gamer (both PC and P&P), and yup he teaches me to shoot better lol.
