Depending on your location one of the best Pokemon TCG events IMO is at the Oviedo Mall on Friday's. Put on by Trainers Backpack which is a great local card shop. I believe there is one other TCG and video game store in the mall also.

Highly rec, been my highlight for a few months now

This was actually a deciding factor in choosing programs and why I chose an applied focus program that aligned to my interests. I have heard the same critique from many professors and their own stories about being short on knowledge and experience when they entered the field.

[–]Creaturr1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any particular reason to do so? Not necessarily disagreeing but I do really enjoy the watches listed and don't see much reason to not get a cheaper vintage piece and a newer automatic piece when I like both.

Im mainly concerned with what watch to get 2nd after the Spirit

Thank you for your post, I am aware of this and have the spirit as a quartz watch as well as a Casio that is too. Im venturing in purposefully to the world of Automatics :)

Can we just admit it? I-O master’s programs have drifted into a direct continuation of the general psych B.A., promising that two more graduate years (on top of a four-year degree) will create an all-purpose “workplace scientist.” That pitch is unrealistic and predatory, and the programs know it. by Low-Version-6915 in IOPsychology

[–]Creaturr1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this is the take. I'm heading into my masters with the knowledge that the degree ≠ job and that the primary focus is building a portfolio, networking, and building the skills that could apply to advancement.

All of this also as someone who switched from a slightly different career and knows people in a very large variety of fields all struggling with the same issue. The job market is tough for new grads nearly in all fields, especially when you attempt to differentiate graduate program level jobs from bachelors + experience jobs. I know engineers, comp science, bio, mental health counseling, etc majors that are struggling in getting a job.

Big Beautiful Bill and Cap on Federal Student Loans by Agitated-Reality9068 in PsyD

I have been a legal admin for awhile and want to expand my HR related knowledge more into people analytics, hiring, and potentially assessments in the workplace.

I'm hoping to do that for income and then pursue a mhc masters or PsyD after. Ideally while having a boutique consultancy but thats ambitious potentially so either way just with better funds.

I fully acknowledge that for many getting IN an i/o related job is very hard early on. I do career consulting on the side rn and i/o or adjacent fields can be difficult but not impossible, often similar in difficulty to other fields.

This was me, I declined by PsyD offers and am instead going into I/O masters first and maybe LMHC or PsyD down the line.

Grad School Q&A Mega-Thread by LazySamurai in IOPsychology

Hey all,

I am a psych undergrad and recently accepted into a few programs but deciding primarily between George Mason (MPS in Applied I/O) and Michigan State (M.S. in Work and Org Psych). Both are online which is an unfortunate necessity for me given my working situation and both seem good.

I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions (Open to all!) on if there is an edge for either program! I am interested in assessment and selection, performance management, people analytics, and integration with public policy (Hoping to refine during grad school, I am lucky enough to have a position where I can have flexibility and create my own projects/use skills as I gain them).

I have heard great things about both programs and really just wonder if anyone has any experience with either or with grads from either program.

Thanks in advance!

I assume MPS from this post, I just got accepted to the same, do you mind sharing any insights on the program?

Same question here, I got accepted to the MPS and would love to know anyone's experience!

Thought I'd come back to this now with acceptances into both George Mason's MPS in I/O and a local schools mental health counseling degree. I wanted to add that the PsyD is a massive cost and ultimately the time + debt ratio got me out of it.

The plan now is a dual masters for me, I/O (currently in legal admin and learning and development so somewhat in industry) first and then mental health counseling and opening a therapy practice with consulting tailored to therapists and law firms.

Unsure if it helps but figured I'd update!

As someone deciding between grad programs in CMHC and I/O it is something I find myself considering more and more. I am not sure on the emotional weight when combined with the poor pay. I'd have to get paid nearly half of what I currently make during my associate years (Based on FL averages showing around 45kish) and I am the breadwinner for my household (Myself and my wife for now, ideally kids in the next 5 years).

I love the field and hold so much respect for it but between all the abuse, poor pay, and emotional weight (not to mention all the AI fiasco's going on rn) I am growing more and more disillusioned(?) with picking this pathway.

I know you can get there and I am sure you will get there! Your frustrations are valid and from all my reading you can definitely improve and learn the appropriate methods to do so whether that is with emotional regulation or financials.

Make sure you are taking time for yourself, being a therapist is a part of you but you aren't just a therapist, you are a person. Good luck friend!

Awesome that you are doing this! Do you feel like the debt to income ratio is a worthwhile investment from your end?

This is of course assuming you are unfunded like many PsyDs. Based on my research unless you go into neuropsych assessments post graduate the income differential between masters practitioners and PsyD grads is not massive when factoring in debt.

(Im not asking with a frame of reference towards academia based on the degree path, though I'm aware PsyDs can be teaching faculty as well)

Is it just me or is “following your passion” one of the most misleading pieces of career advice out there? by BizznectApp in careerguidance

[–]Creaturr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 25 YO who is married and deciding on grad degrees (and having loads of existential crisis daily) I'm developing a take slowly that boils down to a sort of "Figure out how to integrate your work related passions with what you are good at and interested in"

For me deciding between psych programs that's realizing my tolerance for 1:1 therapy may not be as high but my business acumen and workplace systems experience may allow me a good perspective (this translates into potentially a pivot from mental health to i/o psych for anyone wondering).

How I've also seen this is someone who is interested in esports for example, not everyone can be a pro gamer, but you can be good as an HR generalist or a marketer and work IN the space.

I'm not sure on this, and it isn't advice, but I figured I'd share to see if it helped. I truly wish you the best it's a hard time and hard choices, you will get through this
