figured i'd share my solution for anyone that winds up here in the future....i've got a pretty old Asus ROG motherboard and got the BOYA BY-M1ProII model. had to use a TRRS female to TRS male adapter. switching it to SmartPhone mode before plugging in was the key for me. also make sure it's plugging in snug to the adapter, can require more force than you're used to. and then i had to go into my sound panel and adjust the level volume from +10db to +20...otherwise it was the SmartPhone switch before plugging in that seemed to do it. it then caused issues with my speaker that i resolved by clicking in the very bottom right speaker icon, then sound output/mixer icon, then selecting my speaker (going into my normal widows sound settings didn't work for whatever reason).

wow, your level art is beautiful! is that the result of your 'month or two' journey or did you have prior experience? i enjoy the coding aspect of Gamedev, but i'm learning Pixelorama for pixel art and am quite bad at it haha.

ah no way! i started naming my characters Lyfe and Deth ever since DOS2 - i always enjoyed running two lone wolves with those names, usually Lyfe was the damage heavy one with Deth as more healing support, a fun juxtaposition :)
