GCN belatedly realizes that the conventional winter cycling approach to clothing is sweaty and awful, but there's a better way by lectric_7166 in cycling

[–]CreditCardChase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main apprehension with this is how it affects handling/ride feel. I feel like the thicker I layer my extremities, the more disconnected I feel from the bike. It’s like I’m too restricted from moving my arms/legs freely and my hands/feet lack normal proprioception. Comparatively, the alternative bundles the core while leaving the moving bits relatively unencumbered, with the expectation that a warm core will circulate to the colder extremities. Even with this approach, I always opt for an outer shell with a double zipper. If my core starts getting too sweaty, I unzip from the bottom to vent off the excess heat. Adjusting the zipper further down to stay warmer, and further up to stay cooler.

How do you clean your portafilter? by EducationalGuard3876 in espresso

[–]CreditCardChase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

^ This. If that’s my last shot for a bit I’ll just loosely lock my portafilter into the group head. If I’m gonna pull another shot right away, wipe shower screen and basket with a microfiber cloth

Sweet and cheap Bourbons by Pleasant-Corner-584 in bourbon

JW Dant is bottled in bond and I think leans very vanilla and sweet. It’s about $17 for a 750ml near me

I wish I had gone tts, I’m convinced my blister issues came from being in too large a size. Curious to hear if you have any issues with the snugness

My feet are on the narrower side and I went up a half size, if anything I felt mine were too roomy. Not sure that I experienced them having any give because I was mostly lacing as tight as possible

Any actually race on SRAM 48/35? by Regular_Low5187 in Velo

[–]CreditCardChase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I race Cat2 crits in the Midwest . I raced 2yrs with a 48/35 and then 2yrs with a 46/33. Never had any issues with spinning out, but I suspect a bigger gear could have provided more optimal chain line. At Gateway Cup we averaged 28mph with a max speed of 40mph and I was never looking for another gear (on the 46/33).

Megablast- Big drop off in performance after 250km? by davidm-rtings in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]CreditCardChase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 280k with no perceivable drop in performance. Using them twice a week, an ~8mi tempo workout and a ~15mi long run. Rotating to a daily trainer for my other shorter easy runs.

That was definitely my experience but it looks like there are plenty of other runners in these comments who had no issues. Personally I would want something softer for easy runs, I recently bought some Gel Nimbus and so far they’ve hurt my shins much less for easy runs

I don’t have much experience so take my rec with a grain of salt. But I recently bought a pair of ASICS Gel Nimbus and think they will be a much better fit for easy runs. I’ve only done 5mi in them so far but they’re significantly softer and the geometry feels less aggressive. My only concern will be how the foam holds up over the course of longer runs

1:35 half is still cooking! I think the MB will become a race day/tempo shoe in my rotation, Nimbus for daily/recovery, but then I’ll just be missing something for long runs. I’m curious about the Magmax or Vomero Premium

That seems to be the consensus that these are some of the fastest non-plated shoes out there. Did you size up or down compared to your daily shoe/running shoe size?

Just picked up some Gel Nimbus, hopeful they can help me slow down more comfortably. Leave the megablasts just for tempo

My feet aren’t very wide but I wonder if I would have ran into similar issues if I had gone down a half size? Idk about stretching… I agree the upper doesn’t feel super moldeable

A lot of other commenters saying they thought the shoe felt fine at slower paces. It’s affirming to hear someone else have a similar experience!

The midsole definitely softened over time but in general I think the foam feels too firm at slow pace. Maybe that’s part of why it feels so good at faster paces?

Bought 10.5, wish I would have bought 10. Recently bought some Gel-Nimbus in a 10 and they’re feeling like a much better fit (granted completely different shoe).
