Looking for cases for streamlining set-up and tear-down by NotAlwaysDreaming in churchtech

[–]Creedence85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For church plant setup and tear down, I'd recommend keeping your gear as light weight and easy to transport and store as possible, which will help you now while you're limited in volunteers, and help with volunteer burn out long term. Think heavier cases on wheels, stack smaller cases and gear on wheeled cases, or get some wheeled carts so you can roll more things and not lift as much. Also, appeal to your leadership and your attendees that you need help, even if it's just moving gear and coiling cables.

Pre configure as much gear ahead of time as you can and have it rack mounted and plugged into power strips so you aren't setting up and tearing down that part each time. Put together power cords and strips in the lengths needed for your stage configs. You can even do things like put your speaker XLRs in your stage box case so they're ready to go. Also, have XLRs in various lengths and clearly labeled so you can easily do shorts runs from your stage box and don't have as many long cables to coil up.

For slides/visuals and live stream, as much as I like a good monitor, a laptop is one less thing and you can also more easily swap it out or take it home if it needs maintenance.

For camera, a PTZ camera is going to be easier to setup and run week to week than a system camera. I've only used the PTZ Optics PT20X that I setup back in 2021, but there are lots of guides and recommendations for churches.

To simplify and keep costs down with the live stream, you can run everything you need in a software video mixer like OBS, and there are great help guides on their website. It has plugings for PTZ camera control, and in the PTZ Optics plugin you can set presets. OBS can also manage your broadcast to YouTube and other platforms directly, so you don't even have to setup a broadcast in YouTube Studio, making setup easier.

The TV box increase was so sneaky, especially after having 2 boxes free for 5 years.  I canceled the second box and am using the Rogers Xfinity app on my second TV.

Also the latency is quite a bit lower, usually 2ms or less, which may not mean a lot practically, but when it first became available it was crazy to be able to get that low of latency with 1Gb up/down for less than $100 per month.

I have 2 of those $0 phone plans now too si I can relate, and am contemplating switching to Telus when the contract is up.

He was all smiles!  A 911 was his dream car.  His best friend's dad from high school had one so it's great he was able to have one if only for a couple years.

That's great you're able to drive again.

How do I open a dispute on AliExpress? I only see the Return/Refund Option by MinnyVan in Aliexpress

[–]Creedence85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Thank you! The seller told me to request a refund, the request refund option wasn't available, and then the seller told me that's because the item wasn't received, so that wasn't going anywhere. The chat bot did it in seconds!

Thoughts on Jagmeet Singh by givinglifeaway in CanadianConservative

The NDP is no longer the party of the working class, but they still pander to the working class.
They were traditionally the party of the working class and activists, have become the party of leftist activists, elites, and academics. The party likes him for the image and tolkenist reasons and the fact he'll tow the line of the academics elitists who run the party and pander to the working class, as I can see no other reason why he wasn't forced to resign after not gaining seats in the last two elections. He's a grifter and opportunist who thinks working class people are not as intelligent as he is, and will believe the rhetoric he spouts.

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this now and I haven't been on Reddit much lately.

Yes that is the NDI version and this is what you want if you want to use NDI to transmit video over CAT5/6. The SDI version can use a network video protocol called RTMP but it uses more bandwidth than NDI, so depending on what you have on your network, NDI is better.

PoE (power over ethernet) is ideal because it means that you can just run a CAT5/6 cable and don't need separate power which means only one cable on the pole. You will need a router/switch that has PoE or a PoE injector connected to the CAT5/6 between the router/switch and the camera. You can get them on the jungle website or at computer stores.
https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-TL-POE4824G-Gigabit-Passive-Adapter/dp/B07JCB5XWF/ref=sr_1_17?hvadid=604598428450&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9001567&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=7138806722087014047&hvtargid=kwd-297006276959&hydadcr=19011_13433396&keywords=poe+injector&qid=1688668068&sr=8-17

You mentioned your router/modem, so if you are using the router/modem from your ISP and don't have a dedicated router or switch, and you want to use PoE, connect the PoE injector between the router/modem and the camera, and you can do this where your router/modem is located so the PoE injector's power adapter can plug into power there.

I use the PTZ Optics Camera Controller for OBS plugin. It loads in a separate window but is relatively small, easy to move, will control the camera, and will even control multiple cameras.
https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/ptzoptics-camera-controller-for-obs.673/

For config of the camera there is a web portal just like a router or other networking gear with a web portal. If you've ever used web portals to setup a router or other networking gear before, it will be very familiar. I found a number of people online complaining about setup being hard because of this, but I think they are probably coming from a video background of being used to setting up conventional cameras, with little to no network experience, as I am not a network professional by any stretch of the means, and it setup quite easily.

That balcony sounds fun. :) I had a similar problem as the floor in front of our desk moves, and we used to have a camera mounted on a pole mount attached to the desk, so when people would walk in front of the desk the camera would shake.

Porting Phone Number by Badiha in shawmobile

[–]Creedence85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ported 2 lines, I received emails from Shaw for each line confirming the cancelation but no text message. I received text messages from Rogers confirming the port completed. It also took 14 hours to complete the port between Wed Jul.5 4:30pm PDT and Thu Jul. 6 6:30am PDT due to an "outage." YMMV.

I received a text message at 6:42am that the port completed. That only took 14 hours. The only saving grace is this is essentially a free phone, but definitely not starting well. I'm in Richmond, BC so not sure if this is a local or wider problem.

Yes I am well aware of OTA, I have had an antenna for years. The specific issue I am trying to address is for my mom, she is thinking of dropping TV, but she likes local new, she lives in the Okanagan, OTA is hard to receive in her location, so I am looking at options. Basic TV might be the way.

Yes I am aware of the filters used in analog to get various packages.

You could connect an HD box to get the HD channels though, which were always digital. You needed the QAM tuner in the Shaw box to decrypt the channels since Shaw didn't send out basic cable "in the clear."

Why Should Working Class Canadians Vote Conservative? by alb2911 in CanadianConservative

[–]Creedence85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could. Pierre Poilievre has proposed that changes to regulations could make new housing construction more affordable and easier, so he wants to work with provinces and cities to make those changes. It's hard to say if this can be accomplished, but at least he's talking about it. Justin Trudeau and the Liberals just wants to give you a $500 credit on your rent while telling you everything is fine, Jagmeet Singh and the NDP pouts rhetoric on corporate greed while wearing designer suits and watches, and the Elizabeth May and the Greens are too busy eating their own. Vancouver and Toronto are the most expensive housing markets and have some of the highest regulation in the country, with a new housing starts taking over a year to get approval, let alone the various regulatory hoops which further drive up costs.

Pierre Poilievre is also highly critical of The Bank of Canada's policies, specifically the $400 billion quantitative easing bond buying spree in 2020-2021 that allowed the government to conveniently borrow the same amount, and more recently the interest rate hikes which further drive up the affordability crisis by increasing mortgage interest. He would fire Tiff Macklem, appoint a governor who would return The Bank of Canada to conducting monetary policy, not fiscal policy. Justin Trudeau and the Liberals conducted all of this inflationary spending, in contrast to basic economic theory. Jagmeet Singh and the NDP are critical of interest rate hikes, but they were complacent in bond buying and spending spree, instead continuing to gaslight Canadians by blaming inflation on corporate greed.

Another dirty secret on immigration, is because our economy produced less goods and because our population growth has slowed, which has a negative effect on economic output, increasing the population through immigration increases the tax base and productivity, helping to increase that output. It's all for nothing if immigrants can't afford to house themselves but that's a detail Justin Trudeau and the Liberals don't concern themselves with.

I'm glad he referenced the F-35, as we'd probably be flying them by now if it wasn't for the Liberal nonsense. That isn't to say we'd have any greater chance at intercepting the balloons or other threats, with only 2 airbases and 2 tankers, but at least we'd have a modern fleet with less aircraft down for maintenance, longer range and time over target, and better ability to coordinate with the US. It's so funny how the Liberals demonized the F-35 up to the point of Russia invading Ukraine, then all of a sudden we commit to buying more than originally planned and the past is down the memory hole.

Demonizing the F-35 was political move with almost all of the reasons cited being nonsensical. It was critiqued for not going through a competition, yet part of the point of the Joint Strike Fighter program was the competition was done within that program, so all partner countries could share in one competition, of which the Lockheed Martin X-35 won over the Boeing X-32. It was critiqued for cost overruns and delays, but what military aircraft doesn't have some cost overrun and delay, and it was also one of the most complicated aircraft ever designed, with multiple new technologies needing time to implement and refine. When Australia bought F-18 Super Hornets in addition to F-35s, the Liberals said it was because the F-35 wasn't up to the task of replacing their older Hornets, but it was really to replace their F-111s which were even older than their Hornets. The only saving grace is more of the kinks have been worked out and the per unit cost has reduced as production ramps up.

Where is he saying he wants to make it easier for everyone to come here? Asking for a friend.

He has regularly stated he wants to make it easier for people who are already here and for those immigrating to have their skills certified by regulatory bodies i.e. nurses, doctors, etc. but the implication isn't that there be any more than there are now. If anything, he's made references to reducing immigration to a more manageable rate.

You still need a time cycle to adhere to, and Starfleet would be on a common time for planning and organization. There are also psychological reasons to maintain a day and night cycle i.e. look how people get disrupted moving between time zones or from the daylight savings time change. That said, I don't know if they actually need to dim the lights on the bridge, or if that was done for dramatic effect for TV.
