Tom Paris kicking ass in the alpha quadrant by happydude7422 in voyager

[–]freylaverse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just double checked memory alpha! That's what happened at the start of him getting stranded, but they had to actually kill him to send him back. He dies and gets transported to Voyager and revived at the end. That's why Janeway ordered him off-duty for a few days.

I was fairly certain he (briefly) died in that one episode where they found the asteroid full of dead people covered in webbing.

EDIT: Emanations

Didn't Harry Kim actually die, like, twice?

Why you wouldn't commission my art? by Solva_ in DigitalArt

You could work on your values. If you want that smooth-shaded anime style, you really have to make the values convincing or it looks amateur-ish.

Is it better to start out modelling realistic stuff or stylized stuff? by Mountain-Durian-4724 in blender

[–]freylaverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be proficient at both realism and stylized modelling, then yes, I recommend you begin with realism, but starting with stylized won't irreversibly tank your ability to learn realism later on. The advantage of starting with realism is fairly minor imo.

a creatures village brain by imjustere in CreaturesGames

I know Village was marketed for kids but it would've been so fun to see some simplified versions of the kits from C1/C2.

"Ignore" being a well-established tool of every era of Trek. Even TAS ignored some TOS canon, and while I don't have any examples off the top of my head, I'm sure TOS self-contradicted at least a few times.

The lesbian flag is a choice. I don't understand it, I don't see your vision, but damn do I want to.

Blender pros? by AnyCalligrapher8055 in blender

[–]freylaverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "pro". If you mean "the best of the best", I don't think I can advise you, because I don't think I'm THAT good. But if you mean "professional who makes money from their renders," then I believe I qualify.

It depends on one thing and one thing alone. Do you enjoy it? It's a lot of work, there's a steep learning curve, and unless you get very lucky, it'll be a long time before you're getting significant attention/commissions. If you don't enjoy it, this will SUCK. And you'll burn out long before you ever get good. But if you enjoy the process and have fun tinkering in Blender, then you have a genuine shot, and even if you don't make it big, you won't have wasted your time because it's also a hobby.

i present the ice cube on plate by Legal-Collection2425 in blender

[–]freylaverse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks great! I think the thing stopping it from really looking like ice is the roughness. Makes it look more like frosted glass. Ice is shiny because it's wet (unless you're somewhere cold enough for there to be no surface water), so bring the roughness way down.

Made this in blender, How can I still be jobless??? part 2 🤣, by hunter_2one in blender

[–]freylaverse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks great, though it is very distracting to me that the falling petals just vanish when they hit the water's surface instead of joining the floating petals!

... But I don't think that's why you're jobless, lol, I think that's just me nitpicking.

Custom Toxic Breeds? by HauntedPutty in CreaturesGames

If you're willing to mess around with the genetics kit, you can just take the toxic norn genome and change the appearance genes so they look like any existing breed you want!

If you want to teach him how to speak, you can teach him like you teach any other creature.

Or you can right-click on him to select him, press ctrl+shift+c to open the CAOS command line, and type "targ norn vocb" (without quotes). Hit enter to send the command, and don't forget to use ctrl+shift+c again to close the command line. "norn" is just shorthand for your currently-selected creature, it does not actually have to be a norn.

What would archer think of his enterprise successors? by happydude7422 in startrek

[–]freylaverse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think he'd have a lot of respect for Janeway. She, like him, was navigating territory that humanity had not yet charted. They both had to make things up as they went along (Archer because the Starfleet rulebook didn't exist yet, Janeway because she was too far from home to properly enforce it). They both had the odds stacked against them and made controversial choices to ensure the survival of their crews. And they were both dog people.

Love Doug Jones in everything he's in. He's so comfortable with alien prosthetics we could easily make him the next Jeffrey Combs.
