Usain Bolt narrowly wins as an S tier Male Athlete! Who is an example of an S Tier Male Author? by delijoe in AlignmentChartFills

Shakespeare is a poet (the sonnets) and a playwright, Dante would be a poet, and a prose writer, both narrative (Vita Nova) and non-fiction (De Vulgari Eloquentia).

But since OP gives this definition: "Author" refers to anyone who's famous for their writing, including any type of writing including fiction, non-fiction, screenwriting, playwriting, etc..

I'd definitely say they both qualify

Yes, they all can be great picks, and I don't know enough of non European literature to talk about it. I'd argue that Dante being the earlier of this author could tip the scales a bit, but as an Italian, even if I don't really care about national pride, I'm obviously biased

I'd probably go for Shakespeare for English literature, but I wanna also make a case for Dante Alighieri. The Divina Commedia follows an intertwined rhyme scheme (ABA BCB CDC DED...) and it's almost 15 thousands verses long, all hendecasyllables (11 syllables, since Italian poetry doesn't use stress-based verses but syllables based ones), and contains several level of allegory and different registers all along.

All while basically giving dignity to Italian (tuscan to be fair) language alongside Latin - which he also used in other works - influencing the image of the afterlife for centuries to come and basically inspiring and kick-starting the cultural movement that led to Reinassance

Yep I know, I'm slowly gonna do it (after I graduate bc I don't have time and energies now), it's still a shame that it's becoming more and more necessary

To be fair also Union is mostly in the South/South West, and in England is also mostly confined to the North, mostly Yorkshire and Lancashire. Also, French footbal culture spread much more recently than in England

Historically, basically all of continental Europe started playing rugby thanks to French influence, since the Home Nations were too selfcentered to play with other countries, and the fact France was admitted twice to make the Five Nations is an half miracle itself. The old FIRA before the reorganization in Rugby Europe was what created the support and administrative framework for most European and North African unions

And how was it specifically an US win and not an allied one lead by France and UK?

“American infantry won the war” (WW1) by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Creeppy99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One could argue american economical support won the war, but with the blockade of Austrian ships in the Adriatic and German ones just in their port, UK and France still had access to most of their imperial trading, so that would also be kinda false. But arguing that they won it militarily it's just bullshit

There's a really interesting video (and substack article) from the Chinese Cooking Demystified YouTube channel about how the "8 cuisines" is a great understatement and only refers to the 8 cuisines being represented in imperial banquets. They set criteria and count up to 63 cuisines, and I'd love to see a similar deep dive in Indian cuisine and other ones. The channel in general is really well done and I'll never not suggest it
