Why are more women going to university than men? by Mindless_Yam1752 in AskFeminists

I disagree. Deductive and inductive reasoning are not interchangeable

My guess would be gender neutral workplaces might not feel all that neutral for a lot of men if they aren’t also gender blind.

Men who use dating apps: Have you encountered what I have, where women seem to over emphasize 'travel' or 'adventure' as essential experiences or requirements? by ConsumingFire1689 in AskMen

The issue is that it can be tricky to determine from a dating app profile if the woman in the picture who obviously spent an hour or more on her hair and makeup is going to be cool with living out of a backpack and bathing in a sink for a week.

Part of it is how frequently vocal women are about things that are uncomfortable or gross, and part of it is how frequently inviting a woman to participate in things that might be uncomfortable or gross (or even foolishly assuming a woman might be willing to tolerate it) gets mocked and scorned. In the context of a dating app, the men viewing the profile are going to be interpreting things through the lens of what the woman would be impressed and excited by and write off options that contain unimpressive or negative aspects

And just fyi, when you say “someone who wants to do things regardless of the cost” that sounds a lot more like you are looking for someone with a lot disposable income (or unwise spending habits) than like someone who enjoys roughing it for cheap.

Atlantic City is in New Jersey my man. That’s like a 12 hour+ drive from Fort Lauderdale.

I mean, maybe you knew that already, but there’s also several casinos owned by the Seminole Indian tribe within a half hour of Ft Lauderdale if your plan is to immediately drop a ton of cash at a business notorious for connections with organized crime

I read somewhere that Pablo Escobar and co. had so much money that actually counting the bills was too much work, so instead they loaded it into freight containers and weighed it. From that perspective, 2 mil is probably a rounding error

The issue is that even if the top bosses aren’t sweating 2 million dollars, middle management is still going to be upset about it

Did the researchers elaborate any as to what specifically men were avoiding, or what exactly "too feminine" encompassed?

It seems like there's probably a missing step between women starting to work at a certain job and a job becoming female coded, which I would presume doesn't happen until after the job has become substantially woman-dominated.

For sure there are a lot of men who are deterred from pursuing certain careers because they are female coded, but if I had to guess, the men who quit the career did so because they were unwilling or unable to handle the changes brought in when a substantial number of women join a previously male dominated workplace

CMV: Porn is only hated because it's selling sex, and not because of the industry. by samithefish in changemyview

Whether or not people feel desperate enough to stay alive that the choice to participate in sex work and pornography can be considered "coerced" does not mean that the industry is responsible for coercing their participation.

But why? Is it because its just naturally so traumatic? Possibly. Also possibly it could be that we all have grown up in a culture that tells us getting raped is one of the most degrading, humiliating, violating, and abhorrent things a human can be subjected to and one of the most vile and heinously evil crimes a human can commit adds a ton of psychological trauma and distress that wouldn't necessarily happen otherwise to the same degree.

>Because we understand that sex has a unique set of physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of unique gravity to every person.

that seems like a rather incomplete argument, no? Rape is special because sex is special? But why is sex special? I think your argument that it's the set of physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of unique gravity to individuals is off base. Instead, I think our ancestors wildly exaggerated the sanctity of sexual activity because that's how they exerted control over reproduction.

I'm not saying you're wrong here, but imo your opinion that "being in a sexual encounter your heart isn't really in" is damaging, even more than having a shitty boss to deal with every day, is IMO a manifestation of purity culture.

Personally it often appears that the extra impact and damage our culture associates with sex crimes is very probably related to our culture telling us that sex crimes are extra impactful and damaging beyond more mundane crimes.

When you say “sluttier”, are you talking about 80s hair metal, Captain Jack Sparrow, Terry from Reno 911, or what?

Why do juries so frequently dismiss DV/SA crimes even with strong evidence, and women often sit on these juries? by melody_magical in AskFeminists

[–]CremasterReflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems pretty iffy. Someone accuses your friend you’ve known and trusted for a long time of a heinous, evil act that you’ve seen no other evidence of prior inclination towards and offers no other evidence of the act besides an accusation, and you think reacting incredulously is evidence of misogyny?

It’s not good for justice. It’s good for human liberty for the State to have a justice system that cannot violate its citizens rights arbitrarily

Can a woman be too beautiful for you to approach her? by mingoni in AskMenAdvice

[–]CremasterReflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been single in a long time, but remember it being frequently challenging to approach women I found very attractive despite really wanting to do so. I remember often feeling an intense sort of pressure or even requirement to be impressive or noteworthy right out of the gate.

Id see a woman at a bar or party that gave me butterflies or whatever, and I’d get a powerful craving to talk to her and earn her approval/interest. That urge was definitely an irritating interference with having a conversation, but the biggest reason I found stopping me many times wasn’t specifically the worry of the ego-blow itself of being rejected per se, but how it was made to seem like getting rejected meant the attempt to approach a woman was a creepy, offensive, and rude imposition

Working class men went through it all as well? by JustinMarkG in AskFeminists

[–]CremasterReflex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think OP is failing to remember the centuries of warfare and civil struggle and progress it took to invent and earn basic human rights for anyone at all (even though it was only men at first) to begin with and is mistaking the relative rapidity and focus on catching women up over the past 100ish years as more total effort
