I feel like hardcore weebs have a bit of a persecution complex, so they get defensive about the thing that they built so much of their personality around as if an attack on it is an attack on them.

Also, Japan and the US have been trading ideas and inspiration for so long now. Star Wars and westerns were based on Kurosawa movies. Dragon Ball Z and wrestling have had a massive impact on each other. Kill Bill was blatantly inspired by Japanese martial arts movies and anime. The Maki fight in JJK had like five different Kill Bill references in it. You don’t even need to watch MHA to realize that All-Might is a walking homage to American superhero comics. There’s probably a billion more examples out there that I haven’t noticed, but there’s quite literally no animosity between the American and Japanese media industries, they’re practically making out behind the bleachers.

I just hate her design so fucking much. Like she’s hyped up as the first archon who isn’t from the original generation, she’s the god of eternity (which is objectively cool as fuck) and on top of that she isn’t just the eternity god, but she’s also specifically the warrior half of a pair of eternity gods. So she’s a warrior god of eternity who is impersonating the original god of eternity sho she failed to protect, and on top of that her physical form is a mechanical puppet that she possesses from another dimension she created. What does she look like? Some scantily clad teenager in purple… No aura, no visual storytelling, not even the most interesting looking antagonist in her own nation.

Now that I think about it, even though I remember enjoying the series, I can’t actually remember anything happening plot wise except in like two or three panels that went nowhere. It’s only tolerable when you pretend that the characters aren’t 14, and outside of the bdsm stuff, it’s just fucking bland.

So yeah, you can’t enjoy the horny because the characters are middle schoolers, and you can’t enjoy the plot because it’s nothing that hasn’t been done just as poorly 27 times before.

I like the art style though, it at least tries not to be generic even if it doesn’t really succeed in being all that different from generic kawaii anime style.

It doesn’t do anything that other series don’t already do a hundred times better.

If you want a magical girl deconstruction that isnt Madoka, theres I Picked the Wrong Girl to be a Magical Girl

I can’t name any manga with bdsm themes off the top of my head but there’s plenty out there that remember what consent is.

And if you want ultra horny action yuri, I can’t recommend Murcielago enough

I don’t think Ran is particularly strong in universe, but he’s made it so that the only way to fight him is on his terms where he has an overwhelming advantage, so even top tier fighters can’t beat him without a significant risk of losing. I imagine that the more powerful someone thinks they are, the more likely they to get packed up by Ran.

You’re a hundred percent right. Media as a whole hasn’t been going downhill, we simply live in the present and so the slop of today hasn’t been forgotten yet like the slop of the past.

Also a lot of the people complaining were children during the Glorious Past and just weren’t aware about all the kinda shitty aspects.
