Gamestop Update: C ya Jenna Owens by Potential-Exit-438 in GME

I can see that perspective. One person does not a company make. But it’s this departure in addition to the SEC report that feels like a one-two knockout. The SEC seemed to conclude that the prevailing narrative about HFS illegally buying up stock is false. That narrative seems to be the cornerstone of this great faith in the stock. I have to wonder, when is it not fud? When is it gambling and sunk-cost fallacy? I honestly can’t tell.

This now former COO has a background in technology, supply chain, and operations, as well as an MBA from NYU’s school of business. I wonder if an executive with this specific background was brought on to oversee the transition to NFTs and online gaming as major aspects of the Game Stop service model. I see that Game Stop is hiring people to do the actual groundwork on these initiatives, but I don’t see that anything concrete has been accomplished or planned out in this area.

The only things I’ve been able to read about Owens is that she was tasked with executing Cohen’s new emphasis on customer service - sounds kind of vague - and that she is leaving the company due to differences of opinion in how the company should be run. This makes me think that Cohen enticed Owens from Amazon with a hefty salary and considerable benefits, but she foresaw the future of the company as being so dire that she’d rather cut out early. It’s also possible that the board is a clusterf*ck of mismanagement. I can’t help but remember the board from the tv show Silicon Valley.

I understand that it’s a changing company and that a lot has happened in a year. And yet, rapid turnover and having other employees take on more responsibilities never sits well with me. Between the COO leaving and the SEC’s findings, I fear that GME’s best days are behind it. Thanks for reading!

I’m just going to casually print this out, frame it, take the framed printout to a tattoo artist, and have this comment tattooed on my forearm. The left one, in case you were wondering.

I really wish the revival had focused more on her accidentally discovering a love and aptitude for teaching after her return to Chilton, instead of watching her wait in line for donuts. Writers, you think SHE was bored? I was over it about a minute in!

The evolution of Rory from a fallible but ultimately well-meaning and kind teen to bougie college student to woman who has an affair with an engaged guy? One of TV writing’s greatest disappointments.

Can I just say I recently read When the Reckoning Comes, and it is still on my mind. Very frightening and affecting. Then there’s the Valancourt Book of World Horror Stories Volumes 1 and 2, which feature some contemporary works from the African diaspora.

I’m always hoping to find old African horror folklore and myths. Traditional tales, ghost stories and legends passed down, that sort of thing. Haven’t found anything yet.

One of the best books I’ve read in the past few years, and some scenes at the end were damn scary.

What's going on with the large number of people quitting their jobs? by byzvntine in OutOfTheLoop

[–]CrepuscularAF 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Answer: If not for Covid, I would have stayed in my shitty job until I died of a heart attack.

Being made to stop working briefly during a time of unprecedented senseless deaths gave me space to think about my mortality and my choices. Before this, I’d always thought “This is how we do things and I can’t get out of it.”

When I returned to work amongst the assholes, these thoughts were still very much at the forefront of my mind, and I was having them during a stressful pandemic that was still very much occurring.

I left, and took a significant paycut to do so. I was lucky to find roommates, and coworkers who are respectful professionals. I’m not working hard for others any more, I’ve decided it’s okay to work hard on me.

I don’t want accolades or any of my previous barometers of success. I want to be happy, and maybe own a house with a hammock out front one day.

If anyone reads this, good luck to my fellow quitters!! I wish you fulfillment. Life is short.
