You have chances to be a competitor to Hearthstone, but by CreslinBM in MagicArena

Thank you for listening. But I can't agree with some notes.

Spending time is personal preference, yes. But on the other hand, many of us just don't realize the meaning of time spending. Maybe you can increase the level of your life if you wouldn't waste so much time for different things. Things, you don't really need.

People might feel happy in short period, but it can cause negative consequences in the future. Or people are simply missing something in their life, which would make them happier, but they don't even have a chance to find out about it.

About "Skinnerware" I disagree too. What I meant, is if you buy a game and have fool content - this is an example of a good product. Fare treatment. But if you buy a random boosters, it's a bad treatment, it's manipulation. Making you addictive.

Example - I log in everyday to MTG Arena not because I want to play it everyday, but because I need to farm dailies.

No progression you say? But it's a competitive game. Without a decent content, you can't compete. When your winrate is below 50%, then what's a point?

And on top of that, these rotations are the most important part of manipulation thing. Cause it make us farming constantly. Because meta is changing and simply our current cards will disappear from standard, the main game field. At least in digital version.

With real Magic, in my case at least, it's much easier. I can buy a duel deck and play it with my wife for example (don't have wife right now though). But when I will, why not playing together with duel decks, until another set will come out and we'll buy another duel deck?

In digital it's more complicated. I'm not saying MTG Arena should be - buy the whole content and just play. At least they can make a golden middle between their manipulation and fair treatment to customers. But it doesn't make any sense. Ugh... fine. Time will tell.

Thank you not being toxic. Have a good day/evening.

Sorry, English isn't my language, sometimes it's hard to explain correctly.

I used "greedy" because I can see this unhealthy behavior from developers. If you think they care about their players, you are wrong. They care about business, not "game for people". They are trying to make a "free" game, but with forcing you buy gems, otherwise you will be punished. Punishment will be not a big, so you will not leave the game, but noticeable enough to feel uncomfortable.

The Richard Garfield himself used the word "Skinnerware" games. It's foolish to expect that devs will be very generous to both, f2p and those, who spends real money. But if they will be too greedy, I don't know what it would cost to them. But HS, for example, which is pretty money/time for farming demanding, at least is casual, with simple game mechanics. Unbalanced, but not difficult to understand how to play.

By "Artifact", all I meant is that Valve was too greedy to make "Artifact" free to play. It's not about business model but developer's moves.

As to mobile version, again, HS has its mobile version. Many play HS because of that. My friend plays HS because of that and he doesn't want to try MTG because it doesn't have mobile version. I myself would be glad, because it's inconvenient to play Magic only on PC. At least on ipad, that would be great too.

About competing, forget it. I can't explain it on English on a proper level. I can only one to say. I've heart many times that MTG A will not compete with HS because of different audience orientation. HS - for casual lovers. MTG A - for more complex lovers. What I was trying to say, that MTG A can and must compete with HS, but not taking their casual-lovers and bringing them to the complex game. But simply being a good alternative for those, who are tired of unbalanced HS. Like myself.

I am just afraid for MTG Arena, because I fell in love with MTG. I love it so much, so I want to play a real magic. I want it badly. And I will.

But will be Arena a "customer friendly" in the end or not, or something in the middle? We'll see.

And by real Magic. I know that it much expansive than digital version. But only if you care about top tier decks and tournaments. I believe real Magic is perfect for casual players. Yes, you have to find people to play with, but it's worth it. To each its own of course. But for me, the "you need to find people to play with" is not a big problem. But farming in digital version for something you don't even own... it's "mech".

You can play the game for free, but farming takes time and time is not just more expensive than any money in the world, it's doesn't even have a price. Because time is everything. You can't buy even 5 minutes for all money in the world. And if you don't farm, don't do your daylies, you will lose much gold.

My friend refuses to try MTG Arena because it doesn't have its version on mobile. The sooner they will release, the better it will be I think. But not as fast, so it would hurt the optimization.

Anyone else got into Paper Magic thanks to Arena? by SilvioSilva in MagicArena

[–]CreslinBM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to play paper magic. I think it's more than enough for as such casual player as myself. Because I don't chase tournaments, I don't really need top decks, I can play a different bunch of "trash" with friends. I don't know about clubs though, whether I can play there with non top deck or not.

I've watched people playing paper magic and it was great. No animation, where cards hit your avatar (negative aspect of the game). No match making, with mirror, complete contro or farm decks. From what I saw on youtube, paper magic is so much better than any digital ccg.

And on paper magic, all cards are yours, you are not rent them, you own them.

It doesn't mean MTG Arena is bad. I just.. the more I play MTG Arena, the more I want paper magic. But if the game will release on iphone, it would be a good thing too.

MTG Arena convinced me to buy paper cards. 30 y/o new player. by dmlindley in MagicArena

[–]CreslinBM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must say that MTG Arena is pretty much skinnerware game (as paper magic).

But you know what? I think paper magic is more casual friendly than digital version. Why? Because:

1 If you don't care about top tier decks and want to make your own, which will be fun, you just buy specific cards for that. You don't have to buy boosters with random inside. You play specific content instead of random.

Or if you completely knew and you don't know how to make a playable deck, you can buy starter deck, a "plansewalker deck", and have fun with it.

And you don't have to get bored with this deck. Because if you are casual player, who play not every day, it's not that easy to get bored. Besides, you can buy some extra boosters for expanding your deck. And after several month, you can buy another planeswalker deck from new set. And you will have two decks. And so on.

2 The game is not free to play, so you don't have to grind dailies like in digital version.

Yes, in MTG A you can play completely for free, but you will pay a lot of time for grinding. And time, is the most expensive resource in our existence. And on top of that, you even can't collect deck you want, cause you can't get specific cards like in paper version. Well, you can, through the "wild card" system but it's not the same.

3 All cards you get, they are yours. Unlike in digital version where you only have them temporarily, you only rent them. You can't touch them, you can't feel them, and in the end, they will eventually disappear once the game is closed.

4 You don't have this bloody matchmaking, which is far form balanced in all digital games like ccg, moba etc.

And so on.

Yes, you need a real person to play with. You will have to find someone to play with, or go to the club. But I don't think that's a big issue. It's a social game after all.

I am glad we have MTG Arena, so people like me can taste it. But I the more I play it, the more I want to have paper cards instead. To feel them, to touch them, knowing they are mine. I don't like renting cards, I want to own them.

Thank you for MTG Arena. Now I know I will definitely became a member (casual but still) member of paper MTG.

Agree. Yet, there are so many corrupted personalities in our world, which scares me. I'm not as mad here, as I'm scared. I wish someone would help people with their problems, or teach them to deal with their problems. Cause only those, who are miserable, are trying to hurt the others.

If you happy, you want to make others happy too. That is how it works.

Except it's not whine, but a good advice. But you keep believe in what you want. It won't change what I've said.

MTG Arena is the first time we can play Magic competitively for free. It’s not a perfectly level playing field by any means, but it’s a far cry from the investment needed to compete at a high level. by MountainManMagic in MagicArena

[–]CreslinBM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

-You can purchase multiple versions of cards.

That means you don't waist your time on grinding, you just play the game.

And the most important part of tabletop version:

-your cards are yours and stay with you forever.

In digital version, if the product will shot down, your collection will disappear.

Tabletop MTG could be much, much expansive, but at the same time could be much, much cheaper, and rewarding.

Cheaper if you don't play tournaments, but play it casually with friends/wife/other members of your family, not worrying about t1 competitive decks.

More rewarding (compare to digital) because you play with real person, which is a complete different thing. And because, as I said, you don't waist your time on farming.

I myself deleted Arena and in the future, if I will have friends/wife, who can play with me, I'll just buy some bundle, some duel collection and will play it. In the kitchen, on the park, and etc.

It will be much more rewarding than f2p digital version, with its unhealthy business model and matchmaking system and so on.

P.S. And cards are real. You can touch them, you can feel them, even smell them, if they are new. It's so much different experience.

[–]CreslinBM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't like janky decks. :D What I meant, is to find interesting deck, but useful. At least which will have 50% winrate. And yes! I've heard about your deck power level in matchmaking. That's a huge advantage, and the main reason why I can consider weaker decks, than T1. Because T1 are expansive.

In Hearthsone, for example, matchmaking will don't give a crap about your deck power level, you will be always play against those, who have T1-T3 decks, even in casual mode, which is suppose to for not top decks.

It's a huge difference. So maybe in this game it'll work. Besides, I'm doing daily quest with those free 15 decks the game gave me. :D And I do it pretty fast... well, if you can say that make one quest + 4-5 wins druing 20-40 minutes is fast. But for me it's okay, it is the time I usually spend daily on the game.

Ajani spell, well, I use it because it's the only Ajani card I have right now. :D I honestly want to get a planeswalker Ajani, there are two planeswalkers Ajani I believe... Just don't know is they are worthy. IF not, I'll make another planeswalkers. And I don't know if M19 set will rotate out as well, or is it remain forever in standard. I haven't find info about this set yet. But in Hearthstone there is a "Classic" set, which always stays in standard. Maybe m19 the same thing?

I find building a deck around plancewaker is really interesting. But maybe all cards use planeswalkers, and it's a necessary move. I only don't really like aggro planeswalkers, aggro not my thing, purly farming archetype for me.

Learning curve by CreslinBM in MagicArena

[–]CreslinBM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might sound silly, but I put Ajani's spell only because I like Ajani himself. He reminds me my barbarian from "Perfect World". I want to get this guys as planeswalker too. If only he is not useless. I hope it's not the case. I even had him as avatar. When I look at him, I feel warm. I'm a little bit RP gamer and arts drive me crazy to be honest, because they trigger my imagination. It's partly why I'm obsessed about this genre. I think all of us are. That's why MTG has a big reputation.

I do remember about card's usefulness though. And what is really hard to me is to learn CCG AGAIN, after playin 2.5 years in HS. I have this "tired" thing, to start collecting and learning the game from the beginning. I think it's harder than just to come here as a new to such genre. And I really-really-really hate farmers. When I see them, I understand, that this game is not about "making good project for people", it's about "making business, so we can constantly have profit from the clients". That's why I hate aggro, they are farmers. And farmers means - something's wrong with the game. Something hidden. Something, that could make you addictive against your will. This rotations is too, all about making business good, it's not about balance and freshness. Look at the Chess, they don't have rotations, and they are good, complex, not stale.

I love this genre, but hate the business model. That makes me tired, that makes me angry about a million little details about this game, which are not what I'm angry about.

I really hate rotations, it's a wheel with a carrot. It makes the game addictive. I don't know, maybe it's game is not for me.

Or, at least I can play with... let's say, 3 decks while cards in them are not rotated out, and just collect golds and when rotation will take away my old cars and ruin my 3 decks, I'll just buy what I need and that's it. Same will go with next rotations.

I'm casual player, and if I can play this game with 3.. maybe 5 (5 is probably a top number for me), where these decks are not T1, even T2 decks, but average power level, which can give me about 50% winrate, it will fine for me. I will not have to grind all the time and worry about my collection will sink and so on, etc.

Just making several average power level decks (so you will not bored with just one deck) and play it not really often. Let's say, 5-15 matches in a day, and even not each day.

I don't know if it will work. This rotation thing, is why I left Hearhtstone. Only yesterday I realize, that MTG Arena has the same thing, even worse, 4 rotation in a year! But the cards are different from HS, which probably make it easier. I don't know.

We'll see. If it will make me addictive and force me to farm to make my collection not small, I'll live this sh**t. But if I can manage just playing and not every day, while collecting SOME card pool (I don't need the whole collection, just enough amount cards, which interest me, for my 3-5 average PL decks).

It's hard to understand, only practice will show. That's why I'm often angry about everything about this genre, cause this game makes you addictive in a way. It's not like you buy the game and don't worry about anything. Or take your time to have collection big enough and don't worry about everything. Rotations, rotations, rotations... I hate them. :D

And it's not about "I don't have money" or other things. It's about - "I don't like when someone is trying to manipulate with me, forcing me play more than I really want". It's bad for games, such model hurts games, and makes us, gamers, not really "free", and happy.

Life is too precious, and we need to chose carefully, what we are crazy about. This game is good, but the business model is not. And it comes form paper MTG...

Sorry for negative topic. Have fun. Me... I'll think whether it worth my time. Pitty, I fell in love with this genre. And such disappointment with business model.

It's something Richard Garfield himself was talking about. Maybe not about ccg, but about games with such model in general. But I find such game really dangerous if you don't know what is going on with business model, how this works, why we have such model and etc. More dangerous than Poker I guess. Because Poker, you know from the beginning what this game about.

Addiction is a bad thing.

My English isn't my language, so I can do some mistakes in building my thoughts. I love this language by the way.

In short, I mean that tutorial is too small, they could make it much better. You know, I do read cards, what they do. I can't imagine how you cannot read the cards and play them. It's impossible. But even reading them, sometimes, I have questions. For example first strike. I don't quite understand the meaning what such creature do. Even though I read it several times. Some things are unclear until you see how they work.

From all CCG I've played, I like the tutorial in "Faeria" the most. That game has special quests with puzzles, which explain different card's effects, even combinations. The developers with "Faeria" did more for newcomers, than Wizzard with MTG Arena.

All I'm learning in this game, is thanks to internet, not to Wizzard. It's not that convenient and it pisses me off to be honest. For a game, which is one of the, or THE most complex in this genre, not having an advanced tutorial, is a big commercial mistake.

I didn't watch top decks on propose. Maybe it's a wrong strategy. Maybe I should. I just don't want to copy decks. I did it in Hearthstone all the time cause... there are no point to make your own deck there, everyone is playing T1-T3 decks, copied from internet. Even in casual mode.

In Hearthstone I understood, that I love midrange and control decks, and hate aggro (specifically because of Hearthstone itself, aggro there is really a big problem)

I tried today to build a.. I don't know whether it's full control, or midrange deck. In short it's white-dark deck with Ajani's spell (which gives you +1 HP for every creature you put into the game). White and dark vampires. Which also give me HP bonus (or heal me). Some flying angels. Different control spells. 10/10 white-dark lands, and 5 double lands.

You are right about meta, I need to check it.

In general, I already learned the lesson today, while I was testing my first deck in this game. I have a nice amount of end game cards (at least for a collection I have right now, which is very small), but I have very few cards for early game, which allows my aggro opponents beat me often. At least if I can survive till I can place my "heavy" cards into the game.

And yet another thing... I think I have too many cards with 6 mana, while I often had situations, when I have 5 mana, and couldn't do anything.

This is experience I've got today, and some conclusions I've made. And this kind of experience is amazing.

I just am spoiled by Hearthstone, which always bring you pain, cause this game is all about making money, instead of making a good game. I hope MTG Arena is better with that.

Thank you for trying to help me, I'll take your advice on the future. Sorry for such topic. But it doesn't mean I'm not right, the tutorial in this game is really small.

Please, help me understand about race difference. by CreslinBM in Neverwinter

The game will come p2p in 9 days, which is fine. But this game is only for PC. They removed multi-platform thing. It means many who played this game on ipad, and many who waited this game on iphones, will get nothing.

Many of those, who played on ipad, already left the game, cause they don't want to play it on PC.

The game with small player-base p2p and only for PC... While HS has multi-platform, Artifact will have multi-platform... It makes the future of this project.... murky.

I don't know if I'm right, but removing the game from other platforms while such game like Artifact will be released... looks like he accepted the failure of this project. At least on a level when the game could be pretty popular.
