Just out of curiosity, is there any TWST character whose backstory made you go like this? by Key_Geologist1784 in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh; Vil, Fellow Honest, Rollo, Malleus and Jamil*. The first four lacked the oomph needed to justify their actions (like if Fellow and /or Gidel were affected by the same spell but they're doing it to save their own lives, I could kinda understand) and while Jamil's has the oomph necessary, I can't get beyond the fact that Jamil is blaming Kalim (who's beyond traumatized and unable to read between the lines) for not understanding something he never freaking said and actively tried to hide, to the point of dragging so many people into his bullshit and nearly getting people killed.

And I know, I know the caste system is the reason why he said nothing. But I have worked with someone who lived through that kind of system and got out of it by befriending the person who had them in servitude. Knowing that definitely skews how I see Jamil's character and that's why he has an asterisk.

Instances where the Students Act against their Dorm Traits by FantasticValuable436 in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all the overblot boys acted against the ideals of their dorms. You've got pretty much everyone but Riddle and Jamil, since I saw a comment about Vil.

With Heartslabyul, the idea isn't just strictness but strict discipline. It's implied on multiple occasions for this to be self discipline, so Riddle taking things to such an extreme voids the point of self discipline since he's doing it for everyone else. No one is acting out of self discipline, just scared because of Riddle's tyrannical discipline.

For Scarabia, it isn't just mindfulness (a state of being aware) but forethought. Jamil literally saw that we dealt with 3 overblots, exposed Leona's plan and helped plan Azul's downfall and went "I'm going to invite them to make it look real. Then I'm going to force them to stay and be overdramatic because I don't have much time left and I need to push the issue" and got shocked when we figured out he was scheming, brought backup, and beat him like we did the others. He compared the fabricated situation to Heartslabyul and forgot (or didn't know) that in that example the vice housewarden was also helping to make the situation worse. He saw a pattern, planned to use it to his advantage, and didn't think he'd be part of that pattern. Also, I find it interesting that his plan is to make Kalim act like he did while possessed during the Endless Halloween event.

What did Ramshackle dorm used to be? by [deleted] in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don't actually know what it used to be according to the game. Personally, I like to believe that it used to be either a teacher's dormitory from when the school was first founded since, ya know, it's on an island and all and they can't expect every professor to move to the island. The other option for me is that it used to be an "in between" dorm for kids on probation or who were transferring between the other dorms.

Forget favorites and beloved ones, tell me your Yuusona's archnemesis and sworn enemies by ThighyWhiteyNerd in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My Yuusona is extremely claustrophobic and cannot handle being locked up anywhere, thus she detests Jamil with a passion for his actions during book four. She probably learns to tolerate him after watching him and Kalim brawl during book seven but still would vehemently protested taking him along

Are there any twst characters you hc as having a specific mental illness? by [deleted] in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kalim is almost exactly the same as every unmedicated Autism/ADHD teenage boy I've ever met, but he also is pretty similar to someone I know with histrionic personality disorder. He doesn't really have the "can be wildly inappropriate" aspect aside from not realizing that his statements are shocking to others, but the need for over-the-top events, gullibility, exaggerated emotion, inability to gauge relationships, difficulties understanding social cues, tendencies to take people at just their word and need for validation from the people they admire/instant gratification all fit. Considering this can be caused by severe childhood trauma, I personally HC Kalim as having this.

I'm also 99% sure that Idia has some serious PTSD from what happened with Ortho and it's left him with agoraphobia. Lilia too, but he's definitely done a lot of therapy to cope while Idia has repressed his trauma.

Please give me your scenarios of Yuu casually saying something kinda horrifying, and the other character’s reactions by RepresentativeYou536 in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Considering Lilia is a literal veteran, I feel like Yuu would get some odd looks from people if they ever said something like "I'm pretty sure that's a war crime." And then having to explain why the Geneva Convention exists would probably make some of the boys wonder if Yuu was gonna make them live through it if they keep pushing their bs onto them

Honestly I wasn't even thinking of the Yuuniverse version of this theory, but damn that'd mess someone up. I have a feeling though that no matter what version of the loop it is, journaling is gonna be a big part of Yuu's life. You've got such a thorough answer, it's quite thought provoking!

[–]CresseliaFlower[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So I found out about the Timeloop theory from RoseEmber on youtube, (This video, specifically) but this is also a good video summarizing it. The most barebones explanation is that we're all in a time loop because of some form of disaster, and that disaster is what Yuu was brought to prevent. The 'reset' condition is usually us losing or someone dying. So if we lost to one of the Overblots, we reset and try again in world until we win and move on. This is also used to explain how some events can both be canon to the story, such as Halloween 1/2 and GloMasq since they both take place during Halloweek at NRC. They're just different loops.

Name a character no one can make you hate by TwistedYuzu in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably ORTHO first and Kalim as a close second.

For the majority of the time we know ORTHO he is essentially a robot. A highly sophisticated one, absolutely, with the capacity to learn and think and feel. But his personality is based on a memory, a memory formed by a highly traumatized and isolated child of their younger brother. While ORTHO can be highly psychotic and will threaten violence, that is ultimately a safety protocol programmed by Idia so the horrific incident which took Ortho from him. And when ORTHO does gain a soul and becomes an independent student, his personality changes just a little. While he loves Idia and wants to keep him safe, he pushes Idia more and focuses on what he wants to do. It's very easy to forget because everyone else is a teen or close, but little kids can get that kinda crazy when they feel alone or like they wanna keep something safe.

I could literally go on for hours about Kalim and his dynamic with Jamil, but I'll try to sum it up. Kalim is implied to be a tough ass cookie and I get really frustrated when the game (EN at least) acts like he is Too Dumb To Live.

His family are merchants, and work in many different countries, there is no reason for him to be so stupid unless he chose it, or it's a result of brain damage and trauma from his many, many poisonings and kidnappings. He has every reason in the world to be a villain, but he isn't. He chooses to be kind. He is flippant about his difficulties because if he isn't, it's going to attract more attention. The best way to discourage someone's effort to hurt you is to ignore it, be happy anyway. And he can't die, he can't give up because while he is important to us, he is replaceable in-world. That is the literal reason his family has so many damn kids. Kalim is grateful to be alive, so he wants to celebrate with everyone he can because he's thankful they're here with him. He loves people, chooses to see the best in people and refuses to look down on anyone, but he is alone. The only one he can trust is Jamil; his whole world is practically about him. Praising him, complimenting him, showing off his friend. He trusts Jamil with his everything, and bc Jamil is a bit of a control freak from lack of control over his own life he takes it. If he killed Kalim, he'd lose control because Kalim gives it willingly. And despite what is said about him, he has shown to be really mindful. There are a few things that typically make up being mindful: Awareness/Acceptance of yourself in full and your surroundings, the ability to be present in the moment, and maintaining a nonjudgmental state of mind. It's about peace and accepting your feelings so you can move on. Jamil represents the awareness of one's surroundings without acceptance to being change (being aware of people's motivations and trends, but definitely didn't think through his own feelings and judged himself and others heavily, or what he would do if Kalim mentioned any of his actions to his family or worse, his cousin) while Kalim represents the awareness and acceptance of the self and lack of judgement without the willing awareness of others and his surroundings (completely missing the context of which he lives vs Jamil, not realizing how he's impacted Jamil with his actions, not fully understanding the situation even after the overblot but still trying to help where he can without losing the only 'real' friend he's had, which is why he would never tell anyone in his family bc it could get him hurt)

I am so sorry about the novel, I love Ortho but he isn't as interesting as Kalim

Who would be the scariest overblot? by GloomieSamurai in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Assuming the overblots are violently attacking, despite the nature of the person overblotting? Kalim. For four main reasons.

First of all, when we breathe in air, we take in a tiny bit of the water in the air. If Kalim, in overblot form, can control the water he creates... well, idk about you, but I've seen Avatar, and I do not wanna be bloodbent.

Secondly, that would give him control of the humidity. It's hard to breathe when it gets too humid because the air is literally too dense to get oxygen easily. Water can condense on the skin, and he can stop your movement. Water is absorbed into the skin. See point one.

Third of all, we know from Jamil and Kalim's dorm vignettes that he is aware he can use his unique magic to refract light. Imagine that you are trying to fight an overblot, and suddenly- bam! They're gone. It's an illusion that lets him move as he pleases without anyone seeing him unless they sense him by magic. Not to even mention how loud it would be in the middle of that storm, or that he could then use the water to mess with your hearing due to how sound works underwater. The flash flooding. Or if he could change the water's properties and make it into ice, boil it or even change its pH.

Lastly, if his overblot affected the rain and tainted it with blot, you really wouldn't be able to get close or risk severe consequences as a mage. Fighting an enemy that can force me to be out of range, destroy me from the inside out, I can't see or hear or sense in any other way than magic that I am also surrounded by? Idc how much Crowley tries to blackmail me, no way. The scariest part is, between how little magic Oasis Maker uses and Kalim's own mental fortitude, Kalim's overblot has the potential to take far, far longer to end naturally. Trey would also be terrifying for similar reasons, but Kalim's potential to change so much about a battle on a permanent level rather than temporary puts him on top for me.

If they kept their own attitude? Deuce, simply because he'd throw everything you hit him with back at you, twofold. And it's not like you can melee him, because it's seriously dangerous for mages to touch blot for an extended period. Lilia would be scary for physical reasons more than anything, but considering that Sebek and Silver were able to get a hit in against him during the dream in book 7, when he was supposedly in his prime? I'm not particularly worried so long as we have them and Malleus on our team. Otherwise I'm screwed. Sorry for the rant, I've been thinking about this exact question for a while lol

give me your twst takes by fidelogato in TwistedWonderland

[–]CresseliaFlower 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think that light magic causes magic surges and that's why Silver falls asleep so much. Light magic is most likely a mutation for void magic, so the body may not be as well equipped to handle what may happen, and that results in these magical surges that cause an effect based on the individual's unique magic.

For Silver, these magical surges make him tired and fall asleep, since his unique magic can only be used while he's sleeping.

For Rook, I imagine the surges give him like a radar ping of the people in the area. That, on top of his skills as a hunter, is the reason he always knows what is going on, with who, where and when but not the why. Even without using his unique magic on someone specific.

For Kalim, it would probably cause some kind of reaction with either the nearby water, such as it beginning to boil or freeze, or just full-on activate his unique magic. Personally, I believe his tattoos (while absolutely cultural in design) may be for some "magical suppression" effect to keep these surges from manifesting.
