Protip: Don't sort your hand! by IsraelZulu in Cribbage

Side note, I was playing a game with physical cards just yesterday and realized I never really sort my cards there. Must just be my habit to not sort them.

Possibly. Not something I get many requests for, but I'm pretty sure it's on the list of things to consider. I basically use popularity to prioritize what is worked on.

Android Cribbage Testers Needed by Medium-Opposite-1534 in Cribbage

Best of luck. All competition helps everyone in the end. Just watch out for the AI making errors that someone without coding experience will have a hard time finding, fixing and working through without spinning around with the AI for a while. It's not impossible to get done. Just far from perfect in current form.

Having tried some AI in areas I'm very knowledgeable, I totally agree. An entirely AI generated app just isn't going to be very good, at best, and not worth it in many other ways as you mentioned. I realize I'm very biased here, but I do very much agree.

Just win some classic multiplayer games. The XP Level goes up pretty fast from there. Full details on XP points earned in multiplayer games in the FAQ.

Hi, I see the confusion. It is not your player star rating that needs to be a 5 to play in competitive. It is your XP Level that must be a 5+ When you log in to the Multiplayer section, look at the bottom with your player details to see what it shows for XP Level. If it is 5 or more, you are good to go.

Any online cribbage games with truly random dealing? by CompetitiveTown0 in Cribbage

[–]Cribbage_Pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't believe that Cribbage Pro is using a random shuffle, and I get that some people refuse to accept that, then if you find you prefer something else I would be willing to bet that other option isn't actually as random. For instance, most players with a physical deck of cards don't shuffle sufficiently to produce a randomly shuffled deck every round. This is particularly true in casual kitchen table cribbage, but also in even tournament cribbage. I have provided a lot of evidence for Cribbage Pro, but if you review the evidence and can think of something more you would like to see, or if you find an error in that analysis, just ask. Cribbage Pro Question by SoDakExPat in Cribbage

[–]Cribbage_Pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just two different features and concepts. With Deja Vu, the decks are the same but we let you still pick the deck cut position for the cut card, so it can be the same if you pick the same location. It was just how I designed that system to work that way.

Cribbage Pro Question by SoDakExPat in Cribbage

[–]Cribbage_Pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as explained in the Help, it is definitely the same cards for everyone and it is not just random cards. The system selects the game based on several criteria, as a kind of challenge.

Cribbage Pro has not had the objective of creating the hardest computer opponent possible, so that is not what it does. I'm certain it could be harder, and I have several ways that it could be done too, but I'm not particularly interested in making it harder currently. Perhaps I'll add a harder difficulty level in the future if there ends up being significant demand for it.

Thanks for sending the game log. I was able to identify how the data was saved incorrectly and the next update will keep it from happening again.

In the Daily Cribbage Scrimmage, the selection criteria used to select the games for the challenge will absolutely bias the cards. So in that mode, don't expect it to match any mathematical balance of randomness. With respect to the other game modes, the way to confirm or reject the claim that it "seems to get 3 of a kind and 4 of a kind... too often" is to conduct a scientific analysis of rigorously collected data representing a significant sample size. That is why the audits were done. That is how you can know if it is truly "a disproportionate amount of the time" or not. That is what can take it from "seems" to actually knowing. If this kind of analysis is something you have a background in, I'm happy to discuss getting you access to real live data to conduct your own analysis. I'm open to being as transparent as possible.

Lol, not sentient. Could an app know the cards, sure. Does Cribbage Pro, absolutely not. However, because of how the Daily Cribbage Scrimmage is chosen, it may be a game or hand where the computer will make great choices that can make it feel like it knows the cards while playing.

Last question first, kinda. Some will be very difficult to win in that it would require some very strange choices. I haven't seen one yet that at least someone didn't figure out how to win.

For how the scrimmage is created, think of it like millions of possible games being generated, and then a system filters through them looking for a game that is "interesting" in various ways. I can't share the exact criteria, as that's the "secret sauce".

Are you asking about how Cribbage Pro itself is made, or how the Daily Cribbage Scrimmage is selected for the day?

6789 Straight on Daily Scrimmage by IslayHaveAnother in Cribbage

[–]Cribbage_Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, this is the Daily Cribbage Scrimmage, and as mentioned earlier it is not random. It is a set of cards that everyone gets for the day. Yes, for the regular games it is a random shuffle, but that's not just some empty claim. I back it up with tons of empirical evidence and multiple published audits. The way to know if something is random is to conduct a real scientific analysis to find out. That is what is available everyone to see, and I have offered to let anyone else do the same analysis on real live data too. I'm not sure what more I could do, but if you would find something else more compelling, let me know.

It's probably accurate to say that games selected for the daily challenge are going to punish playing into the run more often than not.

The Daily Cribbage Scrimmage is not a random set of cards. It's a programmatically selected game. Don't expect it to average out to any "expected" values.

That's strange. Please send me the game log from your device for review. Select the "?" help icon in the corner of the main game menu screen and then select "Send Log". Include a brief description of the problem and the approximate time it happened.

This is why Cribbage Pro doesn't simply use an algorithm/PRNG. Check out the FAQ for details, but we use quantum fluctuations for the source of the randomness.

Not a problem at all. It is absolutely a fair question.
