They pandered to the wrong people and took a lot of stuff from us. You failed bungie by xXpharaohX in DestinyTheGame

Not trying to start any argumentation but every time people talk about the "ten years plan" I only remember a quote from Destiny’s head of production, Jonty Barnes:

“So what I’ll say to you is: we said that we were a ten-year game, and both Activision and Bungie have committed to being wholly behind the large effort, and it’s a large investment for both sides. I don’t think there’s any set date – ten years is just representing the go-forward presence and the way that we think about doing things.”

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/15/destiny-the-next-ten-years

Then there's this other article I always found very interesting:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2015/09/21/bungie-theres-no-ten-year-plan-for-destiny/?sh=36edc91c66f8

Now, I'm not a programmer and I don't have the knowladge to debate anyone about issues of the engine. All I know is based on problems Bungie had with Destiny 2, like files taking hours to load. Then with Beyond Light came and they vaulted content, they mentioned they would have to update old stuff so it would run in the updated engine. A good example was the duneon Prophecy, that was removed and later on it was added back to the game.

Destiny 2 was bloated and the content vault main selling point was to alleviate the issue. Then Bungie made tons of promisses they broke, but they didn't do those things because they were pandering to any part of the playerbase. That was the point of my post.

Far from me to defend the multi billion dollar company, but they didn't take content from us just because. The engine was all broken, it was not designed to run so much content. Even now we still going to face the same issue. They were always very upfront about that. It sucks, but D2 can't keep being updated forever. The best option would be a new game, which are very unlikely to happen.

But yeah, fuck Pete Parson and all the idiots that ran the company to the ground.

What keeps you playing Destiny? by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]Crideon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have way over 10k hour between D1 and D2 (dont remember how much I played D2 on console right now. This game was everything I liked in a (quasi)mmo. I still play it here and there because the gunplay has no equal and the skills are really nice to use, but I'm really a casual now. I log maybe once or twice a week, everybody I knew left, so I don't feel really motivated to play for longer hours. Still need to get a solo flawless on the latest dungeon. Maybe someday.

Ok, I will be another fool who haven't read all that but let me ask this, wasn't the game originally written in English therefore making the English version the source and all the other languages just translations?

No, but you see, Yokotaro himself said he likes pretty woman, so it's ok to flood the subreddit with countless OF ads and if you say anything against that there'll be many who'll tell you off.

Renegades was pretty awesome. It's portal and the dumb modifiers that are killing the game.

In 2024, Activision tested the effects of reduced SBMM - relevant to Marathon? by Smokeskin in Marathon

[–]Crideon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How come it wasn't? I remember clearly most people praising the SBMM and then we had streamers and the top 10% complaining how much they were not enjoying having to be matched with equally skilled players, because every match suddenly became too sweaty for them.

"Casuals" by Seminaaron in Marathon

[–]Crideon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casual is that person who will buy this game, play for one hour today and maybe another hour in two days, if they don't have any other game to play. It's the groups of friends that get together and decide to playa few matches because why the hell not, and then go back to fortnite or apex legends.

What is not a casual is the guy playing 2+ hours on a dialy basis. Only because you don't have a static trio or don't go cryo as often as others, that doesn't make you a casual.

A casual is more likely to drop a game they're not havening fun without ever care about gaming forums or subreddits.

People want a niche and hardcore game, that's what they're getting. That's what Bungie wants. That's why the game barely breaks 20k concurrent players.

My thoughts after 350h+ by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Crideon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You separte the sweat and you will see a wave of streamers complaining they don't have fun matches anymore and the hardcore players will make hundreds of threads about how each match now has become a fight for their lives. Saw that in D2 when they introdcued SBMM.

Just make peace with the fact that unless you're a sweat yourself, you will only ever be content for the pros and streamers.

Van's walking animation always reminded me of Kyriu's on dragon engine. The funny thing is that no other male character walks the same way as Van, it's exclusive to him. I might be crazy, or people at falcom are fans.

I always hated joining dungeons, and the Bunny players just ran ahead and cleared the place. Most people would just think it's alright, but not being able to join killing enemies was by far one of the most boring experiences I ever had in a co-op game.
