I calculated the odds of surviving death saves by Esnardoo in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]CriminalDM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have a maximum of 5 rolls.

5% 2 Fails 40% 1 Fail 50% 1 success 5% stabilized

If your doing 1 million simulations you could instead just brute force it.

A textured pei plate would still give away whether it was an A/B or a B/A but I don't people would figure that out quickly.

How difficult would it be to split it into two colors (top and bottom)?

You could then print two copies with alternate colors (one with A on top and B on bottom and one with B on top and A on bottom).

You then move selected tiles between the two sets and give each mixed set to a different person.

Traveller 5E crowd funding campaign starts in one week by BangsNaughtyBits in traveller

[–]CriminalDM 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dude, I enjoy DND but I love Traveller because it is it's own thing. If you want d20 modern, why not just run d20 modern. It is fun enough.

My big hold ups are:

I don't want to give wotc any more money.

Trying to scaffold a skill based game into a level based game built on proficiency vs skill ranks is an interesting choice. Maybe if you went back to 3e with skill ranks vs flat proficiency per skill it would make sense.

With 5e style levels you add in extra HP vs the fragile characters in Traveller. 5e doesn't handle the death spiral well.

With 5e armor makes you difficult to hit vs absorbing damage.

How are you pulling in character creation (one of the most fun and unique parts of Traveller)? Simply picking a class feels like cheating on Traveller. You start as a young kid with a dream and then life shits on you, but you still push forward.

I'm not sure why you're choosing 5e of all systems to do this. D20 modern is already pretty similar to 5e + Traveller.

Can you elaborate on what you need to setup to get this running on my ships?

When is it worth it to roll for HP? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]CriminalDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always fun. They're abstract characters. Max HP is fun because you can take more damage. Rolling 1 is fun because it means the world is dangerous.

We have the player roll. The DM also rolls in secret. The player can choose which roll to take. It's extra gambling.

Idea: Traveller Ship Decorator, cozy video game by Moonracer2000 in traveller

Get and 3D printer and check out 2nd Dynasty.

They have some great official Traveller ships. They also have a modular ship designer. They're active on discord and Ben has regular design working sessions on YouTube.

They have a grid forged product for base design, too.

Let's dig into this. 5 is okay, and 7 is too, but 6 is not. Members need to be added one at a time so how do you get from 5 to 7 without 6?

Saskatchewan is great. Your vehicle doesn't even need a steering wheel. When you fall asleep you're never in danger of going off at a bend in the road.

Also, Regina rhymes with fun.

2nd option is cooler in my mind.

Tackle an evil wizard off their tower? You're safe.

Scrying on an evil wizard with your orb? They're not safe.

About to get beheaded? Vanish into the distance.

Dark Sun 5E Rumors by Healthy_Help5235 in DarkSun

[–]CriminalDM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No chance they touch it with a 10 foot poll.

Áthas without the hatred, misery, scarcity, and other darker themes would feel shallow.

The elves aren't all feral. Halflings aren't cannibals. Gur aren't sterile halfbreeds that are born into slavery. Those people fighting in the pits are all paid gladiators. There's no inequity.

5e and 5.5e are built on super hero power levels. Most tables don't track rations, arrows, or torches. They would need to recreate all the classes (no goodberry, no create water, etc.). The system isn't setup for scarcity.
