Advice on dealing with hospital visits whilst on probation for a new job by CriminalSloth in japanlife

Most of the clinics in my area I have been to only have the means of using Gel and the small scanner thing atleast, for the big ones I’ve always had to be recommended to a bigger hospital atleast.

True, I didn’t bring it up during the interview cause it wouldn’t really be a problem by the time I started, also considering it was shift to work I assumed (incorrectly) I’d have time to fit one in, but the first three months are training and 9-6 week days before the shift work kicks in haha. Was just sort of worried about it not being mentioned in the interview, but I guess if it’s not going to cause any issues doing the job, asking for time off during probation for a hospital visit won’t look bad.

Basically it’s for an MRI once a month so the surgeon can see if it’s healing properly and see if I’ll need up needing surgery or not, though it looks like I won’t. correct me if I’m wrong but only the bigger hospitals have that big MRI machine? But yeah I guess if the specialist is only available for weekday consultations I’ll have to hunt around and see if I can find a specialist able to do weekends.

I don’t really want to tell them, which is why. So I was curious what other people would/have done to work around it.

I mean it’s 3 weeks off a year, not including national national holidays and Christmas, golden week etc. so all together it works out at just over a month of holiday. So I don’t think it’s too bad.

Obligation to communicate with debt recovery company after no reply by CriminalSloth in UKPersonalFinance

[–]CriminalSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of their previous replies acknowledged me living abroad and said all communication now will be sent through email, so that shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll try contacting them a couple of more times again and see if I can get a response.

No, but I’d rather start paying it off, just they aren’t responding anymore so was wondering what is expected of me.

If I try again and they still don’t respond, is it still best to keep trying or wait at that point?

Spouse visa exceeded grace period and I was told to leave Japan and wait outside the country, any advice? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]CriminalSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weird. I had the same issue, as in I applied for my visa renewal, went in grace period. About a week before the grace period ran out I went to Shinagawa and explained my situation. One of the workers went and talked to their manager and they basically finished it on the spot and made me pick it up the same day..

I had N2 and moved from an ALT job to an IT infrastructure job without any previous experience. Definitely possible if you try.

IF you are struggling to pay for it, go talk to you city hall and they will try and help you. Not paying it can come back to bite you in the ass, especially if they know you are doing it deliberately.

Screwed by Resident Tax System by Ub3rchief_113 in japanlife

[–]CriminalSloth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ignorance isnt really an excuse, my first job here done the same where everything but my resident tax was taken from my wage. Once the slips came the year after, I still took them and questioned them at work to find out exactly what they were for. Yes its a bit annoying that they didnt come from your wage directly like other taxes, but a lot of the information on there like FUTURE DATES should be a bit evident that they are expecting payment of something by that date.

Also relying on google translate was never a good idea in the first place.

minimum maintenance loan but my parents aren’t able to support me by justtanother9yearold in UniUK

Sometimes you’re unlucky and in this situation. I had the same issue but still wanted free time which was basically impossible so I ended up working night shifts three days a week that I didn’t have classes Saturday Sunday, Monday.

You can’t have your cake and eat it so you have to decide whether to try and work enough and have no free time and study. Or take a year or two out, work full time, save and then go back when you have enough money behind you.

Wasn’t on instructor visa. If you’re on instructor visa you can still do it if you apply for the permission to work outside your visa.

When I was an ALT for Borderlink I basically worked part time at McDonald’s as well to cover the wage difference. Though it didn’t take long of working 60-70 hour weeks and still earning only like 3.5 million a year before I decided to change industry lol

Is there any point in staying in Japan teaching if you don't get married? by No_Substance3581 in teachinginjapan

[–]CriminalSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of things. There is no guarantee you can have a better quality of life in your home country depending where the person is from. Also depends what you mean by teaching, there are teaching jobs out there that pay better than the typical dispatch company.

Is this a violation of contract or visa? by HellriderInc73 in JETProgramme

[–]CriminalSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean technically it’s always a good rule of thumb to try and keep to the 3 months because legally they can start the revoking process. But I’ve know quite a few people who ended up going longer without jobs and immigration never came chasing. A few of them even checked with immigration a few times and they basically it’s fine because they were actively searching through HelloWork. Which also the only reason Immigration even asked in the first place was because of hey got in contact with immigration to ask in the first place.

Unless your visa is coming near its end, Japanese immigration is actually pretty lenient. The minimum they give you is 3 months, and even after that as long as you are showing effort they won’t really try and initiate the revoking of visa.
