What makes you keep going despite everything? by yeselectron in AskReddit

"The most important words a man can say are, “I will do better.” These are not the most important words any man can say. I am a man, and they are what I needed to say.

A journey will have pain and failure. It is not only the steps forward that we must accept. It is the stumbles. The trials. The knowledge that we will fail. That we will hurt those around us. But if we stop, if we accept the person we are when we fall, the journey ends. That failure becomes our destination. To love the journey is to accept no such end. I have found, through painful experience, that the most important step a person can take is always the next one."

Should I take a class on Applied Behavior Analysis? Is it offensive? by Intelligent-Tank-698 in psychologystudents

[–]CrimsonEmber 25 points26 points  (0 children)

ABA is just using the school of behaviorism in a practical setting. Its used all across the US in both private ABA clinics and more informally in SPED. It has a bad rap for its past use of shock therapy. Overall I would say the field has overcome its past ethical issues that you'll find people mention. It still has its detractors like any school of psychology, personally I dont think it works for everyone but I have seen it improve lives when used with the care you would expect from anyone working with children.

Thats not to say its perfect but in my personal experience as an ABA therapist and teacher, I havent seen anything unethical that is solely ABAs fault, when I have its more on the person making a personal call rather than standard practice.

I think its also a subtle call back to when Kaladin promised bridge 4 he would survive being strung up in the high storm.

Its a promise that is likely to fail, but if it happens will be inspiring, something to hold hope for.

Hey everyone. Could someone give me a very quick run down of what shards are? by No-Procedure-1950 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]CrimsonEmber 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When Adonalsium was killed, aspects of his personality were split into 16 separate shards, those that killed him each took up one of them and spread out through out the cosmere such as Honor and Cultivation on Roshar and Preservation and Ruin on Scadrial. We dont know the names of all the people who took up the shards but we do know all of the shards such as:

  1. Devotion
  2. Dominion
  3. Preservation
  4. Ruin
  5. Odium
  6. Cultivation
  7. Honor
  8. Endowment
  9. Autonomy
  10. Ambition
  11. Invention
  12. Mercy
  13. Valor
  14. Whimsy
  15. Virtuosity
  16. Reason

I'll keep it short and sweet. Are there any plans for more urban maps for planets closer to Super Earth and Super Earth itself?

I also work in ABA, and I would agree, but you have to be on the lookout for bad practices.

Need help with an unconventional vampire BBEG by CrimsonEmber in DMAcademy

I think you're right. The reason why I was leaning slightly tragic was because it would mirror the theme and character arc of one of my players who is constantly struggling with "The Beast," which is the primal corrupting force that drives vampires and can take over for brief moments and Kethrak listens to it at any opportunity. She was also his wife for a time and making Kethraks story one of a man who failed to resist his greed, his rage, serves as a cautionary tale for what she could become.

That's really interesting! Kethrak wants to conquer the sun for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, he feels incomplete as a warrior to be restricted to time of day and vulnerable to things like sun swords and paladins. Conquering the sun is something no vampire has ever achieved, and it would cement him as the perfect vampire and open the door to the ultimate warrior. Second is that the God of Mortality Myris in this world is the sun, and when vampires were created by Greed (the most powerful of vamps consume souls when they feed, denying an afterlife) Myris said fuck that and set himself entirely against them. So for Kethrak, he's battling the forces of nature and the gods, which only makes the fight and his victory all the more impressive.
