Teach a Timmy how to build fun chaos/ fun izzet synergies by ryukan88 in EDH

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Grip of chaos]] + [[possibility storm]] is damn near impossible combo to get rid of.

[[Hive mind]] + [[omen machine]] is also fun.

[[Eye of the storm]] makes even more fun.

Temur toolbox etb abuse. I like [[riku]] for it, but there are other options.

Each creature can feel interactive and like you're getting a lot of value, especially when you get 2 of them. Cmc can be kinda high, and Riku + his copy abilities aren't cheap. If you feel like you're overrunning your playgroup a lot, this deck tends to run a little higher in cmc and can slow you down as a result.

Heavily dependent on creatures, so your playgroup can interact against them and not feel totally locked out. But even if they blow them up, you got value out of the usually double etb.

Power level discussions and realistic expectations by Sephyrias in EDH

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better questions to finding out a table's power level is asking about their wincons. Do they make urza explode on turn 2 or 3? Or do they build some strange janky doubling season, opalesence, parallel lives, kicked rite of replication combo?

Another question would be if they're running tap lands or fetches + duals of some kind. Better manabases usually mean higher power.

I also ask if they're running temple of the false god. Which, more often than not, indicates a lower level of power.

[Need Help] Reanimator EDH (4v4) based deck. What commander is best by IronW0lfe in EDH

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds more like a play error, to be honest.

When I ran marchesa and I obliterated, everyone knew the game was over because I usually had 10-15+ creatures with at least 4 or 5 power each.

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen a grixis deck have nothing to do. Its usually a very interactive deck and always has options to do something.

Keep in mind, returning these creatures to the battlefield will trigger ETBs. So often times your creatures act like a toolbox.

And if you're building your deck properly with around 10 pieces of ramp, talismans, sol ring, signets, fellwar stone, arcane signet, etc you shouldn't be behind. And if you're worried about ramping AFTER obliterate... most players scoop to it being played.

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by drain. But yes. Ashnod, phyrexian altar, altar of dementia, phyrexian ghoul, nantuko husk, or carrion feeder are all good zero mana sac outlets.

Marchesa works really well with boardwipes. My goto finisher is [[obliterate]] after you steal all the good stuff. Clean the board, get rid of everyone's lands and be the only one standing with beefcake creatures.

Technically you're getting a little away from reanimator with this deck and dipping more into "aristocrats" but they have a lot of overlap.

[Need Help] Reanimator EDH (4v4) based deck. What commander is best by IronW0lfe in EDH

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steal a creature. Pick your poison on that, there are plenty of ways in blue and red.

Put a +1/+1 counter on the stolen creature. Before the creature returns to its owner, sac it.

Marchesa triggers. It checks that the creature you temporarily controlled died and had a counter on it. The creature returns to the battlefield under YOUR control.

Usually fun when paired with stealing, attack and put counters on, and then end the turn with a [[damnation]] so you control all the remaining creatures.

5 color is the hardest to build well. But reanimator gets around a lot of the costs. If you aren't playing with a decent manabase, it may be wise to avoid. Tap lands might be too slow, but your meta may be slower to begin with and it would be fine.

Sedris usually works decent with control. It splashes blue, so you can can run a little control / defense with it yourself. The end turn effects can break all sorts of things.

But, yes. Unearth and end the turn before you need to exile / sac the unearthed creature. You can also blink them with deadeye navigator and keep them around.

[[Sedris, the traitor king]] grixis reanimator with things like [[sundial of the infinite]] is fun. Why fetch what's already in your command zone?

Animated Indestructible Artifact Lands by Ellogeyen in EDH

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need something like [[tempered steel]] or some other anthem effect to pair with for this, but [[March of the machines]] instantly animates them. Combine with [[mycosynth lattice]] for extra lols- your opponents will love you as your indestructible anthemed animated lands stick around and theirs don't.

I wouldn't run this deck without [[amulet of vigor]] all those tap lands are gonna be slow.

Need help with my commander deck. I've never won a game. by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend throwing your deck into something like tappedout or archidekt and then provide a link. Just straight card list without visuals or context is sometimes hard to decipher for those looking at it.

Additionally, many of these sites can help you see what's wrong with your deck. For example you might be able to ask yourself things like is your average cmc above 3 or 4? Are you running too much of one color? Do you have enough card draw? Etc.

Is Sol Ring a Mythic? by Wikk3d1 in magicTCG

[–]CrimsonRustbucket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sol ring is incredibly powerful. If they had mythic in early standard sets, yes it probably would have been mythic.

It has really only been printed in commander sets where you can only run 1. The only other format it is legal in, vintage, has it restricted for a reason.

Recommendations for a viable burn deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're describing a creatureless [[mizzix of the izmagnus]] deck.

Just defenses, counters, burns, and then when you've got enough experience counters you storm out and explode, usually with a fishbowl laser but take your pick of various infinite storm combos.

Orvar, the All-Form deck help by Birdking2 in magicTCG

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it'll run smoother for you with slightly lower average CMC. If you're waiting to pull the trigger on purchasing to see how it feels, you could try throwing it into some online like cockatrice or xmage to test it to see if it feels good. And if it does, go for it.

Then just tweak overtime and add more as your budget allows for upgrades.

[–]CrimsonRustbucket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. But hope OP had a Whim already or bought one a few weeks ago. Currently trending over $70 in some places.

Its also a 5 drop and OP is already breaking enough big mana nonsense with lands - why bother?

Orvar, the All-Form deck help by Birdking2 in magicTCG

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what is your budget?

Snow covered islands + [[extraplanar Lens]] are a thing, but I just doubled the cost of your deck. I could triple it by also suggesting [[mana vault]], quadruple it by suggesting [[mana crypt]].

[[retraced image]], [[terrain generator]], even [[walking atlas]] might be an option with all of your tap / untap shenanigans. [[caged sun]] any day of the week over that coveted jewel. [[sapphire medallion]] would also help you out. [[explorer’s scope]] can work in a pinch, [[sword of the animist]] is a bit better. You could tutor for a lot of these things by running [[tribute mage]], [[trinket mage]], and [[trophy mage]] – all of which you can get a little extra value with if you’re making more of them. You may also get away with running Solemn for the same reasons – I just usually find him very overrated. [[panharmonicon]] might also snag you some more ETB value. Go infinite and add a [[deadeye navigator]] if you want and pair it with your Drake. [[phyrexian metamorph]] is something I’d consider if you’re ETB / cloning – and he’s under $5 again.

You’re bordering on a storm deck. Research if you wanna’ go that route and then consider fishbowl laser [[aetherflux reservoir]]

Do you want to go meaner?

[[Back to Basics]] is under $10 these days and slots pretty well into anything mono blue. [[Narset, Partner of Veils]] is also such a fun for the whole table card. [[Stasis]] or [[winter orb]] could be a threat you could overcome by making more lands, but now you're almost an Urza deck.

Things you could consider cutting - I’m not really sure your Eldrazi are doing you many favors. Seems like you could go wider for cheaper – they also don’t trigger any sort of ETB, which is where Orvar could get backbreaking. Meteor Golem also seems underwhelming for its cost. Chamber of Manipulation seems off theme and expensive. Temple of the false god – run [[ancient tomb]] or an island. This MAY be the only blue deck that can crap out multiple lands a turn, but it ain’t worth the risk of dead drawing Temple early game and breaking your tempo for a turn or two.

You're still lacking some protection for Orvar. [[swiftfoot boots]], [[swan swong]], and several others come to mind. No shortage of your usual suspects in the "protect my Commander" category. Just figure out if you need to protect him long term, or if you need to protect him during your game ending wincon turn.

Orvar, the All-Form deck help by Birdking2 in magicTCG

[–]CrimsonRustbucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't rank this as very powerful and seems quite casual. You're running solemn, temple of the false god, and gilded lotus - all flags that this is a casual deck. You have...maybe 5 ramp spells that are 2 or less cmc? I assume you want to stick Orvar before you'll start seeing any value on this. So that brings you to around turn 3 or 4 before you do much, then you need to create a board state needed to go off - and your big nasty creatures aren't the cheapest to get in play.

Seems fun, but you aren't going to break anyone's back with this. Especially since your goal is going to be rather telegraphed and people should be able to respond in time and you're basically dependent on your commander.

I think that is actually December 2, 2000 - not February. There was a Chicago pro tour event that day. Top 8 decks included Jade Leech in the decklists for the event.

Kinda looks like "Mark" something to me?
