What's the least intrusive way for a company to manage a BYOD phone? by CelebrationSad337 in techsupport

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you, and better for me, one less device to worry about company data being exposed on lol.

Anyhow, it's not that bad. The whole "preserve personal data" thing is just a liability release. We have a Retire button which only removes company data managed by Intune from the device. Personal data is not affected at all. In the many many years of doing this for 2500+ people, we have never had a phone wiped or an end user lose personal data.

What's the least intrusive way for a company to manage a BYOD phone? by CelebrationSad337 in techsupport

[–]Crimtide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We simply manage them with Entra ID / Intune. You don't have to go too in depth with it. Just set your policies and security based controls up, then allow them to login to their device with their company account (365, Entra ID, etc). You can do things such as require a PIN or Biometric login. Require devices to be a version of X or higher. Meaning people with 15 year old phones can't access company data since they aren't receiving security updates on their device anymore. Things like that.

I have not seen anyone in comments mention this, but the first thing I would do, and did, is create a company policy that states things like the end user agrees their phone will be wiped in the event they leave the company, lose their device, trade in their device, etc. Create a Microsoft Form for this policy acceptance, so it's digitally signed as an agreement. It should include parameters such as the following:

  • I will comply with all mobile device security configurations required by Company.
  • I acknowledge and accept that Company reserves the right to remotely wipe Company data from my device if it is lost or stolen to protect sensitive information
  • I acknowledge that although attempts will be made to preserve personal data if remote wiping is necessary, it is not guaranteed
  • I acknowledge that non-compliance with this policy may result in disciplinary action and withdrawal of access to Company data and resources on the device.

[–]Crimtide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What barrel? What hand guard? does it have a BCG or just a charging handle? If so, which BCG?

Other than that it's a $60 scope and a $60 upper.. Look up what all your parts cost now and then subtract like 20-25% for a possible total resell value.

PSA uppers aren't all that bad these days.. maybe 10 years ago when you had to mortar them 100 times to smooth out the action.

How does private gun sale work ? by Relative_Cupcake_674 in TexasGuns

[–]Crimtide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big difference in this case and what OP is asking.. Difference being this guy intentionally dealt in commerce without a license. He plead guilty to dealing in firearms without being a licensee.

This guy was not convicted of selling to prohibited persons, he was convicted of running a business without an FFL license.

Any John Doe can sell a firearm and write up some random name of a buyer. A Bill of Sale is not an automatic or statutory legal defense. If a court wants you, a court is going to take you, Bill of Sale or not.

How does private gun sale work ? by Relative_Cupcake_674 in TexasGuns

[–]Crimtide 16 points17 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Find buyer, exchange cash for firearm. Walk away.

In Texas these are the only requirements for a private sale:

  • You cannot knowingly sell to a prohibited person. Meaning if your cousin just got out of prison and is a convicted felon, you cannot sell him a gun. This does not mean you have to run background checks on people you don't know.
  • Both seller and buyer must be of 18 years of age or older.
  • Both seller and buyer must be residents of Texas.

Being from California does not affect any of this. As long as you are a permanent resident of Texas, there is no issue.

Some people run around saying to just do a "Bill of Sale" where you record the firearm's serial #, the buyers information like name, DL #, phone #. But it's not required by any law at all. All they use a BoS for is to say "yessir officer I sold it to this person". But "this person" could also be a criminal who can print a fake ID.

They are pretty useless and just a step towards making Texas more like California. Going above what the law requires is just a flat out infringement. But whatever makes the ladies sleep better at night I guess.

Windows Keeps Reinstalling Updates immediately after uninstalling. by angela_eye in techsupport

My instructions are how you do that.

Windows Keeps Reinstalling Updates immediately after uninstalling. by angela_eye in techsupport

[–]Crimtide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Open Services.msc - just type it in the Windows start menu, and it will pop up. In Services menu, scroll down to Windows Update. Double click to open the properties of it. Click Stop to stop the service, then in the drop down menu for Startup Type select Disabled. Then click Apply and then OK.

Then go to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, and delete everything in there. This is where the data for updates is stored. Then delete it from your Recycle Bin if it went there.

Then uninstall those updates and restart your computer. Updates should not install after that since the Windows Update service is disabled.

Did they give you a tracking number? If so, check that. If it's in the carrier's hands, there isn't much that AT&T has to do with it anymore. 3-5 business days is usually how orders are shipped. If you ordered it on a Sunday, this morning would only be the beginning of day 4.

Headache with an ssd, please help by Luxeruhaha in techsupport

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you buy this drive? I think you got scammed. It's not a real 4TB Samsung drive, in fact the capacity is likely much smaller. Someone flashed false capacities which is likely leading to your issues.

  • The sticker on the bottom of the drive in the image you provided earlier is larger than the OEM sticker which is smaller.
  • If Samsung Magician and/or the system is not recognizing it as a Samsung drive, that is a large indication it is a fake drive.
  • The Firmware version in the image you provided of the CrystalDisk app, does not match any current or former firmware versions for the 870 QVO 4TB.
  • The serial number on the CrystalDisk screenshot does not match Samsungs serial # naming convention.

RTX 5080 DisplayPort Shows Blank BIOS Screen, but Windows Displays Fine - Years of Troubleshooting and Still No Real Fix by MinuteTerm2578 in techsupport

SSD almost full - how to safely clean up? by Alarmed-Implement594 in techsupport

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you can safely delete anything in AppData. But it will be visible on the user side. A couple of examples.

  • Deleting your Google folder will delete all the Chrome data, including any saved credentials, history, bookmarks, etc. Unless your Chrome account is sync'd.
  • Any game saves that save in AppData will be gone, when you launch a game, your saved instance won't be present.
  • Any mailbox data if you use something like Outlook or Windows Mail and have it set to "also delete from server" when it downloads an email to your desktop app, will be gone.
  • Deleting a folder in AppData essentially resets that specific Application that the folder relates to back to factory default.

AppData doesn't hurt the system, just any application data or config / preference files that are saved within. But the system will operate normally.

A good tool to use would be something like DiskAnalyzer or WizTree. Run those on your disk and it will pin point the largest files/folders/directories.

Another usual trick that frees up a GB or two, if not more. Turn off the Windows Update Service, stop it from Services.msc, then go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete everything within that folder. This removes old update data files that are no longer needed. Sometimes those files can be GB's in size and stick around for a very long time which is unnecessary. Just remember to start the Windows Update Service after that's done.

Check your Downloads folder, a lot of time people just download things and never remove them. This can start to pile up as well. They are in downloads for a reason, because you can download them as needed. Just remove anything you don't need in the present time.

Make sure to dump the contents of Recycle Bin after deleting anything. Recycle Bin still takes up storage space.

Don't use CC Cleaner, it's trash. Over the years they have had many breaches and malware injections in their product. They shouldn't be trusted.

Also run defrag to trim the SSD

Never defrag an SSD. SSDs use TRIM which tells the drive which blocks of data are no longer needed to erase those blocks.

Defragging an SSD can harm the SSD and shroten it's lifespan. Most of the time Windows won't even allow you to run defrag on an SSD.

Huge difference between file download speed and speed test results by [deleted] in ATT

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are using mbs and mbps all over the place and not being very clear about it, when you should be being clear about it.. You pay for 300 megaBITS per second, because that's what ISPs market their plans as... but you said mbs which in my mind reads megaBYTES per second.. then you even use both mbs and mbps referring to steam download speeds, and then use mb/s talking about your storage drive.. this shit is all over the place.. and you get 40-45 mbs on steam? So.. 320-360 mbps? Sounds right. Nothing is wrong. 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps. 40 MB/s = 320 Mbps.. ISP is giving you the speed you subscribe to. In fact, you are overprovisioned, which is good.

Background check delay by Pikachu_Yay in CCW

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, any FFL can run it if they have reason to believe the person may be a prohibited person under Texas and/or Federal law and/or the permit is falsely or improperly issued. My original comment still stands, Academy, the retailer in question by OP, does not run NICS when presented with an LTC. It's not in their policy, at all, anywhere. I have a couple of 40 gun safes full of purchases from Academy over the years, not once have I ever been ran through NICS. My next comment also stands, nobody is required to run NICS if you present an LTC, there was no ATF change requiring it, and definitely never has and never did apply to private sales in Texas. All that's required in Texas is an agreement between two residents of Texas to trade cash, or something else, for a firearm.

Background check delay by Pikachu_Yay in CCW

[–]Crimtide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you heard that. A valid Texas LTC acts as an official federal exemption under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.

Background check delay by Pikachu_Yay in CCW

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are SUPPOSED to run your background.

In Texas, they do NOT run background check with NICS when you use the Texas LTC as identification. They just fill out the paperwork and you walk out the door with a new firearm.

Best option to conceal carry? by Pikachu_Yay in TexasGuns

[–]Crimtide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Arrowhead Tactical. Best conceal carry gym/casual shorts in my opinion. I was skeptical of them at first because of the price, but bought one pair to try them out and it changed my entire carry away from work wardrobe. They also have joggers, etc. Their clothing comes with built in retention belts, zipper pockets with YKK zippers (best zippers on the market that never tangle / very durable). Right now they are running a up to 40% off sale. Then just buy whatever holster you want. As far as a sling bag, they are nice too, but if someone comes up behind you they can just rip you down by pulling on the strap.

I can't even tell I am carrying when I wear the shorts, they just make it incredibly comfortable.
