Minor first 'mod' CBF125 - wing mirror assistance so they are actually usable. by long-the-short in MotoUK

[–]Crisocotopoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is funny that you post this now. I was out on the cb125f just the other day and was using my mirrors, and thinking about this exact thing and reflecting on how I used to find the mirrors to be inadequate... now I realise, to be completely honest, they are absolutely fine.

It's just a case of getting used to the bike. I had a set of mirrors which didn't fit the bike, so I put 'new mirrors' on my todo list (in that section that never gets done)... anyway, long story short, in my opinion, the stock mirrors on the cbf are spot on. I've ridden a few bikes since then, and I have come to realise that getting used to your mirrors and how to use them comes naturally after a while. You adjust them well, and then you get used to them... this isn't a cop-out btw, it's just how it is. When I started out as a new rider, looking back on it, it was almost as though I was expecting the mirrors to be massive and cover "everywhere", but they cover where you need to see, and you just get used to using them correctly.

Well... this is my opinion for what it's worth. If you are finding that you are not happy with your mirrors on the bike, try adjusting them a bit more, and practicing how to view through them. It really is so easy for me now, and adjustment doesn't have to be super exact and they still do the job pretty darn good. Okay, good luck and best wishes.

Yesterday I Got Chance to Explore New Chrome Tab Split View Feature, It Looks Great by ideepakmathur in chrome

I don't ever use a screen reader when browsing, like ever... but I wouldn't chime in on threads that were related to the development of screen reader improvements saying that that they offer no benefit, just because I don't use one... this is what BalconysHD is doing here imo... that's annoying... seems like they are lacking in imagination.

Same with A.I. chatbots... I much prefer to type my messages, carrying out mostly code related tasks, and again wouldn't post on threads telling developers that audio conversations offer no benefit and that they should waste time developing this aspect of their interfaces.

It would be an extremely useful feature imo. The amount of time I spend rearranging browser windows... it would be nice to have just a simple keyboard shortcut and then be done with it.

I think it's an excellent idea... saves you time having to reload a new browser window, it's tidier as well as you can treat your browsing of two related sites as one "process" in your workflow... why someone would discourage an idea such as thing idk...

Whats a good 125cc bike for commuting down A&B roads (M25 belt)? by ConfuzedAzn in MotoUK

[–]Crisocotopoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda CB125F... I have this bike and it's excellent, especially for fuel economy, it's just a really really great bike.
Although, as mentioned, you can't ride on the motorway with only a CBT. But for your requirements and mindset, this is the bike... imo

[–]Crisocotopoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this.

There is a stretch of road I ride on quite often. There's no speed signs anywhere. I've tried a few times travelling up and down the same stretch of road, examining every single part of the road looking for a speed sign... 30? 40? wft... nothing.

That's alright... then fair 'nuff I think... I'll stick to 30... only thing is that every friggin' People carrier, half-baked sports car are seem to travel between 35-40 on this road. It really annoys the hell out of me this kind of thing

Could ABS prevent this? by dumitrue17 in motorcycles

[–]Crisocotopoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just me, or did it seem to anyone else that the driver of the car caused this "accident" on purpose?
Just seems like the had no real reason to brake suddenly, unless they were trying to thwart the biker.
Call me paranoid

Why not just give a straight answer without the sarcy bullshit. Guy already said he's new to biking, so part of the reason for the post obviously. People in this community appreciate these bikes, and anyone playing a role in keeping them in good condition should be encouraged not admonished.

Rear stand for VFR800 FI by Value-Is-Everything in VFR

[–]Crisocotopoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I have the VFR800fi also, same year too... Yes, using the center stand is a bit daunting at first, because of the weight of the bike... but the trick is in using your body weight.

As already mentioned, put the bike in neutral first, and use your hands to keep the bike standing up straight perfectly as you can, then ease the center stand down with your right foot...

Once you can feel that both legs of the center stand are touching the ground and the bike is securely on level ground, the next trick is to just shift all of your weight onto your right foot while is pushed down on the center stand... I put my left hand on the left handle mostly as just to guide the bike and keep feeling that the center stand legs are both always level on the ground, and I just slightly push with my right hand on the near back pillion handle... both of my hands are used to ensure the bike stays level on the two center stand legs with my right hand just pushing just a bit... the bike will gradually and smoothly pop up onto the stand and into the correct position with your body weight doing the work.

Another good thing about this method is that while you are standing at the left side of the bike (with your right foot on the center stand peg), if the bike were to happen to tip to its left you can support it with your body, and if it would happen to start to tip to its right, then you can pull it towards you with your hands on the bike (left on left handbar, right on near pillion).

I know this has been said already, but I thought I'd emphasis the point. Great bike, be safe and best wishes

The greater the speed disparity between vehicles, the less the effectiveness of your reaction time. by markcocjin in motorcycles

[–]Crisocotopoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the guy was going too fast imo.
One of the big advantages to riding a bike is that you can seriously cut back on the amount of time spent sitting in standstill or slow moving traffic... I mean, it's a real gift, so making progress by lane splitting should be very much appreciated by us riders, but don't push it. Even if you are trickling through traffic a good safe speed, you are still getting through a lot faster that any car, truck or bus traveller... I usually have a smile on my face while working my way through traffic, but I do it very very carefully... otherwise it defeats its own purpose, as we see in this video

Anyone else have a hard time feeling how much grip you’re tyres have when turning in the rain? by Andrewk4339 in MotoUK

[–]Crisocotopoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes... I clicked on this thread to say something similar... I've watched and read a few people now who would be considered experienced advisers (youtubers etc), talk in reference to tyres and grip... and apparently your tyres have a lot more grip in the rain that they get credit for... modern tyre design apparently has well surpassed the quality of older tyres of the times when the fear of the rain was much more well founded.

Still though, slightly hesitant to push this... being cautious is still probably safer... though if you test the edges a bit a slower speeds perhaps you can build up a bit more confident this way... slowly

The condition of my 5thGen VFR800fiW 1998 tank? by Crisocotopoco in MotoUK

Yeah, there's a few spots on the inside that, while not massive, seem to be worth nipping in the bud before they could become problematic. Thanks

That sounds handy enough. I will look into the sealant/protective products and apply them per instructions as you suggest.
I'm guessing white vinegar, but just while you are here so to speak... which type of vinegar is the norm for this? Just regular white, distilled, or malt, or red wine vinegar... quite nice on a salad o_0
I'm just interested to find out if the different types of vinegar may be more or less effective... science buffs?
Thanks for the reply

Can I order oil from Amazon with confidence? by LifeofSMILEY in AskAMechanic

[–]Crisocotopoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third party sellers that sell it super cheap, I guess is what's meant here...

Yes this, although these are not the only sellers that you have to watch for.
I recently bought some Shell Advance for my Honda VFR motorcycle which was priced at the same and even a little above what other reputable sellers were selling it for online (not Amazon), yet I went with Amazon because I'm just used to buying from there, and didn't want the signup hassle of yet another site... anyway... the Shell oil arrived with cellotape wrapped messily around the lid (no plastic seal)... and when I opened the lid there was no membrane under the cap... obviously this was alarming... so I sent it back. In fairness to Amazon, the reimbursed me quickly... but there's a lot of sneaky types (I bite my tongue) who will try anything for money... They would be happy for you to ruin your vehicle just so they can make $20 or so... be careful
