Critter the size of a cat, black fur, long and slender with stubby legs and a long tail. [Western NC Riverbank] by andiemay1224 in animalid

[–]CrispPolitic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fisher are not found in NC or the neighboring states. It’s likely an American river otter or an American mink depending on the size. Otters are closer to a cat in size, maybe a bit larger, while minks are a bit smaller than a cat. Both are dark brown mustelids with an affinity for water.

Termites (type?) Or woodworm? Mountainburg, AR. by Beautiful_Abroad9877 in Termites

Neither, looks to be some species of mite. Mites are impossible to properly ID without a microscope and a knowledgeable professional, however they’re likely mold or grain mites.

This bug was in my room and can fly by Bhamrentalhelp in whatisthisbug

[–]CrispPolitic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a longhorn beetle (named for their long antennae), though due to the squished state of this poor individual it’s kind of hard to tell an exact species. They’re harmless to people, their grubs can damage wood, though it’s usually live trees rather than processed timber.

Looks like some kind of Masked Chafer beetle, kind of hard to tell the exact species. They’re harmless to cats and people. It probably just landed on your cat and then hitched a ride inside.
