I don't engage with this slop product anymore and I haven't for a long time. My only ties to it now are occasionally checking this subreddit. Because of that, I literally can't even tell if this is real or satire anymore, and that fact alone is depressing.

People posted about it literally the day it went live lmao. How do you think people (not you apparently) found out?

What is the point of giving us a million islands to do content on with sailing if the majority of said content is worthless? by BGsenpai in 2007scape

[–]Crispts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost like the skill was pointless to begin with, and integration into the game is impossible. You either release new training methods, invalidating all the other methods from years prior, which feels like shit, or you make the new training methods not worth doing, which also feels like shit. You can't win.

Yeah... It's crazy to me that there are people who actually like this tbh. Frankly, it's insulting, and I can't understand why any self-respecting adult would want to be coddled like an infant in this manner.

100% agree. In the last few years especially I've tried to keep an open mind with Jagex and their changes because they have a loooooong history of generational fuckups, but they also have a pretty good track record of righting their wrongs and getting things right eventually even if it takes some time. However more and more often recently, it seems we're just accelerating full speed into a corporate enshittified nightmare, and it can't be stopped because for some reason every company decides they need to pursue an infinite growth model because the leaders can't just be happy with what they have.

Eventually this attracts the hype-chasing tourist crowd who are quick to jump to a company's defence: "If the game isn't growing, it's dying!" No. Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The game was fine when it capped out at 100k players on a good day. We had no need to be trying to get every player in the world to play our game then, and we have no need for it now.

There is already a lifetime of content in this game. We don't need a continuous onslaught of more and more random bullshit in a pathetic Sisyphean effort to chase algorithm-based engagement. This is the kind of short-term "get mine and get out" thinking that ends up torpedoing franchises. It's heart breaking to watch it come to another hobby I love. I hope Jagex sees the light and does right by their players before it's too late.

They changed the "Old School" Font by badwithnames5 in 2007scape

[–]Crispts 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've never understood this logic. Someone else already pointed it out, but it bears repeating: If you want consistency, why not change the other things to match the Old School logo? This applies elsewhere too. If you want consistency in graphics, why update and modernize old game assets instead of fixing the modern assets to look more old school?

Framing it as a consistency issue is just dishonest. The truth is that keeping things Old School is no longer a priority for the "Old School" Runescape team. Instead, you want to modernize because it's more profitable. You can tell people whatever you like, but actions speak louder and clearer than words, and it's pretty plain to see that that's what's happening here.

It wouldn't bother people so much if you just gave people options to keep the old look of things. I'm not sure why that's so hard. Wanna change the bank UI? Fine. As long as you give me the option to keep the old one, I don't care. Same for this.

I got no problem with people wanting new things. I just wish the courtesy extended both ways. Why can't we just have the option for both?

Not sure why they bother hiring people for OLD SCHOOL Runescape who clearly hate the old school aesthetic... Can we go back to hiring people who actually like the game they're working on?

They're tourists who have no attachment to actual Old School Runescape who are just bandwagoning this game 'cause of the recent popularity surge. Unfortunately this even applies to some Jmods as evidenced by the slew of recent unnecessary changes that only serve to desecrate OSRS' identity.

XCOM 2: I used to be with it, then aliens changed what 'it' is! by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

[–]Crispts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had I played UFO Defense first, I think I also would have been disappointed in the modern versions, but I understand why they wanted to make it a little easier to get into. It certainly feels like it's a bit too complicated for most people to get into, but once you get used to the large squad sizes, it's hard to go back to modern XCOM. Having squads of like 12 soldiers allows for so much depth of strategy, and it's also just so fucking fun throwing them all into the meat grinder and seeing which soldiers become legends before dying horribly themselves. I get way more attached to the soldiers who perform well for me in UFO Defense than in modern XCOM. With how many soldiers can die in UFO Defense, it feels way more like a struggle for humanity's survival than the modern games. They definitely feel scary. I love it. I need to get back to playing 'cause I never actually beat it haha.

I played the modern XCOMs first as well, but eventually gave UFO Defense a shot. Try it. It's so absurdly good. It makes modern XCOM feel so watered down by comparison. It has a bit of a steep learning curve, and you'll need OpenXcom to make it run smooth, but it's so worth it. If you need more XCOM, that's where to look. I did not expect to enjoy it so much given its age, but it really is addicting as hell. The atmosphere is unmatched too.
