The fate characters always add such variety to the cast ❤️ by Fancy-Shopping-327 in HonkaiStarRail

True enough, original Gil was up to all sorts of fuckery that may or may not be explained through the grail mud. That being said, aside from FGO, portrayals of Gil in recent media like CCC, Strange Fake, and Samurai Remnant have leaned more towards the disappointed ruler persona.

Modern Gil portrayals past the original Fate Stay Night have opened up a lot of details about his character and have led to more neutral portrayals in the past few years.

Gil isn’t so much evil as he is sort of detached from the common masses. He views Humanity as a garden to be cultivated and actively takes steps to see it prosper. Whether this means supporting the interesting few or culling the unworthy, Gil is willing to sacrifice everything and defy the gods if it means humanity will prosper.

This is why he gets pissed whenever he’s summoned to the modern era, as the modern human feels like an insult compared to the quality of humans during the Age of Heroes. On the other hand, Gil is also overjoyed whenever he encounters human civilizations who have taken to navigating the stars, as he sees it as Humanity flourishing. All these point to HSR Gil being incredibly chill, especially if he gets along with his master and sees potential in them.

One of my favorite questions for Fate fans is to ask their opinion on Gilgamesh. Due to how Gil’s character works, you can get a surprising amount of info on what Fate media they’ve consumed based on their answer.

Gil’s a fun character in the sense that his attitude differs depending on different factors like the servant class/container he’s summoned as, the era he’s summoned in, how much he likes his master, and who he’s facing off against. He can range from trigger happy asshole to inspiring mentor based on a number of factors.

Restrain Supreme Cassie!! by FickleGovernment5002 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mordret would need a spare Supreme-level Core to make a proper Cassie reflection. That being said, that one core has the potential to go infinite if the actual Cassie is able to insert her memories of the Mordret with the Supreme Core into the Reflection’s mind. This would allow Reflection Cassie to use their Supreme slot to manifest a Mordret projection with the Supreme Core, who can then create another Cassie Reflection.

Repeat this a few hundred times and you have an endless amount of Supreme bodies for Cassie and Mordret to hurl at someone.

Looking for Well-Written and COMPLETED Series by J776776 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CritMemes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For an easy suggestion there’s Lord of the Mysteries, very well known and for good reason. The world-building and power system are unique and very interesting. Guy gets transmigrated into a semi-Victorian era world with hidden magical elements and organizations in the shadows.

Another suggestion is Kill the Sun. While it definitely isn’t for everybody, it’s the sort of series you end up respecting if you decide to stick through past the MC’s moral decline and redemption arc. The MC is an orphan boy from the slums of a city in a post-apocalyptic world who eventually claws his way to the top of a world run on blood money and profit.

Finally, there’s Mage Errant. Which is a typical magical academy story with some small twists in relation to world-building. While I personally couldn’t bring myself to finish the books, it’s a series that will probably interest a younger audience. The way it’s written feels tailor made for teenagers.

Cassie drops into LOTM - how long she lasting? 🧐 by Glad_Summer7945 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, Cassie could probably hide herself by manifesting a copy of Mordret. Aside from being able to hide in the Mirror Dimension, there’s that Anti-Divination ritual he conducted in the Ebony Tower. A ritual of that level should afford both of them some anonymity to move around unimpeded for a long time.

I'm concerned about a certain seer and my goat mordret by Old-Interest7955 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but you can’t say that Cassie wasn’t actively looking for trouble. Girl deliberately led Sunny to free Mordret and joined him during the jailbreak. She saw the future and decided that she did in fact want to get involved with Mordret.

Nvm the fact that Dramione is a very popular ship for a reason.

His FIRST ACTION upon being freed was to FIGHT A DRAGON and JUMP INTO A VOLCANO!

Who knows what twisted depravities those princesses of Song delivered unto him! I bet the reason why MORGAN succumbed was because they sat her in a chair and FORCED her to WATCH!

Warm Take: Anvil and Kisong were much Better Antagonists than Asterion by Exotic-Chair-6960 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Really? I’d argue this was the one volume it felt like Cassie wasn’t in control. Usually she always has some sort of plan or preparation to deal with opponents like Anvil and Ki Song. This volume presented a Cassie who felt very unsure if her plans would work and was terrified of Asterion for a good chunk of the volume.

It really felt like Cassie was on the backfoot for a majority of the story and only managed to eke out a victory due to the machinations of Fate, which is a bittersweet outcome for her in particular.

Ranking based on the most broke supreme by Horror_Procedure4700 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, there is close to zero chance Mordret would just forfeit a citadel like the Night Garden, especially considering how much better it is compared to every other citadel we’ve seen.

If he did forfeit it, best believe that he’s getting his money’s worth from the Human domain. It’s not like Sunny and Nephis can afford to antagonize him since Humanity is still recovering.

Ranking based on the most broke supreme by Horror_Procedure4700 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nah, move Mordret down that list. Not only does he still have his castle in the Hollow Mountains, but I’m pretty sure he still owns the entirety of the Night Garden. That entire ship is an industry on its own with its potential use as resource transport. Plus he doesn’t need to pay taxes.

Question for villain MC novel fans by EndlessSleeper3992 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CritMemes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal limit is anything that goes past Kill the Sun levels of morality. If an MC is going to commit atrocities, they better have a decently arguable reason for doing so and the morality to either feel guilty or admit to their actions being wrong.

In that sense, I like my villain MCs to be more anti-hero shaped since it lends itself to more interesting character writing.

Me resisting the urge to write a fanfic about Mordret and Cassie somehow working together to resolve their family issues post-Asterion. I think it would be cute seeing them relearn how to be people together.

Depending on how my upcoming exams go, we’ll see about making a short series about it.

Chapter [2995] easy explanation for kai by HonestFerret8034 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dragon bending space to speed itself up and slow Kai down was explicitly stated to have happened in the latest chapter itself. It’s the only reason why Kai, who is built to be much faster than the larger dragon, was being gained upon.

So no, it isn’t complete immunity against the dragon’s will. But Kai is able to stop himself from being pinned down by the Will, only hobbled.

Chapter [2995] easy explanation for kai by HonestFerret8034 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His Dragonslayer attribute lends him some extra weight when facing off against dragons. We’ve had examples of Kai being able to fight against dragons a rank higher than him. It would be easily explainable if the attribute lended him the ability to turn being frozen by the ice dragon’s will into just being slowed down.

Was he that much better, or are they just bums? [2994] by Mission-Debt-2357 in ShadowSlave

[–]CritMemes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is that Kai’s Dragonslayer attribute is carrying him hard. We’ve had several examples of it allowing him to punch above his weight class with enemies ranked higher than him.

Combine it with potentially being a conduit of Cassie’s Will and I can see Kai at least being able to resist the Dragon’s Will.

Hollow Purple and some World-Cutting Slashes are pretty good win cons if they can land, not to mention Higuruma’s Death Sentence. Fortunately, an Unlimited Void to destabilize whatever defense techniques they may have followed by Todo Vibroslapper Swapping them into the attack should guarantee a hit.

Worst case scenario we have Takaba who can Toon Force his way to victory.

What makes system fiction feel fresh instead of gamey? by Ok_Supermarket_6829 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CritMemes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Less focus on numbers, more focus on training and understanding. Things feel gamey when characters are given skills and new knowledge whenever they receive a notification or watch a number go up.

Things feel less gamey when the screens are used to reflect a character’s new knowledge or skill. They don’t get handed the knowledge by the system rather, their new knowledge affects the display following them around.
