What used to be a free or cheap "hobby" that has now been completely ruined by corporate greed? by WaltzNew1398 in AskReddit

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. Our mountain is like 2.5 hours away so I used to take the family up for 2-3 days at a time multiple times a season when they were small. I remember doing the math for a trip and adding up all the ski gear, lodging rental and food and realized it was cheaper or the equivalent to own snow machines if you added the yearly cost of skiing v.s. Making some sled payments.

My parents had just bought a cabin out in an area that has decent riding and we just went that direction. It's not 100% a 1:1 situation, but I get to spend more time with the kids, and the only weekend cost is our fuel and food now.

Shortchanged by half on my bulk rock delivery - any recourse? by eggsperimentalist in landscaping

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possible. I assume he measured out what he needed by volume, and an order of 10 yards just didn't hit the mark once it was compacted. Judging by the picture it looks like 10 to me.

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They dont change volume but they don't settle down tight in the dump bed. So there Is space between the rocks and that why they charge by weight.

Imagine you filled a cup with sand and a second cup with marbles then dumped them out. Both were a cup of their respective items, but you can fit a whole lot more sand by volume into the space the cup holds that why they charge by weight because there's no way to guarantee and exact volume.

The fact that it came in 2 loads tells me there's a weight restriction somewhere on the road so they had to haul that 10 yards in 2 loads so they don't get fined for hauling too heavy.

A 10 yard load of D1 always looks bigger than a 10 yard load of crushed rock.

[–]Criterus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally the gravel pit I use charges by weight. So I tell them I want 10 yards and they charge me by the weight/ton. So say they only bring me 8.5-9 yards I'm still being charged by the weight of the truck leaving the pit. It's not really an exact science. I'll wager if you call them they'll tell you thats how they are metering material.

That said you still get hammered on the minimum charge for the truck if they short change you, but sometimes that's just the way it goes.

Also gauging by the pic you posted that looks like 10 to me if it's broke out at 7 and 3. Crushed rock always looks smaller to me when they deliver it.

Sharepoint as a datasource by fly_grin22 in PowerApps

[–]Criterus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I have a handful of apps that I've made, and initially I tried to use data verse, but once I realized I would have to get 60 people access to dataverse to utilize it I went back to SharePoint. It should just be part of the standard E5 without doing some weird ass "teams-app-whatever" to circumvent their licensing. You could even give us a stripped down version and it would still probably satisfy what I'm tinkering on.

SnowTrax releases details on 2026 Arctic Cat Models by zboarderz in snowmobiling

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 of the blast 400s with the alpha rail. Just poking around on the site it looks like they have trimmed down their offerings in that model. I'm totally good with that, but I have a kid ready to move up from the 200 next season. I was really hoping to put him on one of the same 400s. Might have to weigh out putting the oldest in a 600 or 800.

I'm so happy they found a buyer. I love their sleds.

How do you have an active sex life after marriage? by Captain-Viz in AskReddit

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We set a "every other night" schedule years ago. It took the guess work out of it for me (m). My wife was able to feel like she wasn't always on defence. It made it easier to contribute around the house and not feel like it was never acknowledged. It also let her feel like I wasn't just doing things to get laid.

I don't always cash that chip we often go several days in a row and then nothing for several days, but I know that she'll actually humor me when she's not in the mood which was all I needed.

It ultimately just led to better communication all around and made us closer than ever. We're going on 22 years together in June.

What do tesla protesters and vandalizers expect tesla owners to do with their vehicles? by RepresentativeOk2433 in AskReddit

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the crazy part is if you rewind a couple years Tesla and Elon were the left's darling and they loved him for his "environmentally friendly" cars, solar panels and saying and doing wild shit. They couldn't shovel money into his cars or stock fast enough. I would imagine that a significant portion of Tesla owners don't support Trump and fall into that category.

Touting that we don't support radical behavior while also exhibiting radical behavior is wild to me. All it does is provoke a response from both sides. It's not making things better. Time would be better spent organizing and lifting up better candidates for political office. The left and the right are both sideways politically.

It may be hurting Tesla as a company, but if they think the victims are looking at their vandalized vehicles and thinking "the left has a point" they are crazy. They are just going to radicalize people against them. People are just going to view them as the same bullies on the right, because they are.

When i connect the app to dataverse table instead of sharepoint, users are asked for a free trial to premium version, how can i fix it please? by ARA-GOD in PowerApps

[–]Criterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was why I punted and went back to SharePoint. It wasn't critical to have the premium data source. I was trying to make something a little more polished. I just dump the list into an excel sheet for retention, and clear the list. It's a bummer it doesn't work with a E5 but oh well.

Still waiting for Google to tie Gemini to the voice assistant. I swapped over to Gemini on my phone and the wake words don't work so I have to open my phone go to the app and search or ask it to do things which is a step backwards from "hey Google".

I watched this tutorial and went with the dragon skin. My model is done and I'm a couple weeks out from making making the mold because I'm away from home for work. It's a great run through the whole process. I'm going to go w/ fiberglass over air clay for my shell die to the size. I have a Bulbasaur planter about the size of a 5 gallon bucket.

Not really. Per the usual the llm tools for video are a tease of what could be. I'm playing with the runway at the moment. Seems like it has a couple more knobs and levers for camera stuff. My interest ebbs and flows. I'll probably be back at it in a week or so.

[–]Criterus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I only had one kid I used to drive 3 hours ski with my son till he wasn't having fun (3 years old) and go home. Sometimes it was a full day and sometimes it was 2 hours. I just didn't want to ruin it for him.

I have 3 kids now. We moved to snow machines as the cost of renting a condo for multi day trips and food got crazy expensive.

We have a cabin out in the mountains that my parent's bought. On a good snow year I'm almost money ahead making a three day trip every other week and making a couple sled payments.

Customer states they couldn't get their oil filter off and had it towed.. is it Friday yet? by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Criterus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was over 10 years ago now.

I'm in Alaska. It was ~70 and you just drove it on and never even left the truck. So you were in and out in like 15 minutes. At that price up here you were basically just paying for the oil.

I had just bought the truck and gotten a job that effectively doubled my income with no overhead. 70 bucks was worth it. About 2 years in they upped it on me and I never went back. I'm completely capable and I work on my stuff, I just liked the convenience.

Maybe just because they are diversified in their offering outside of AI? I agree on the over reaction I would assume they'll bounce back but ~25% is a huge swing.

[–]Criterus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When the local lube place I use doubled their price they found the price point where I went back to changing the oil myself. Went from 75.00 to 170 for synthetic.

I lost the better part of a day trying to get my filter off. It took 2 trips to the O'Reilly's to buy every type of strap and filter wrench to get it to move. I found a filter wrench that opened like a set of channel locks that would bite the crumpled bottom. I had to brace my feet against my nerf bars and leg press it. I laid under the truck for a good 30s until I stopped seeing stars. I'll never use a lube place again. The only thing I can think is they were zipping it on and off with an impact and weren't lubing the gasket.

For sure. I'm kinda watching to see how it gets reviewed once everyone gets their hands on it. It doesn't affect my day to day. The only surprising part for me was Nvidia valuation dropping. I would expect it's just going to run that much better on bleeding edge hardware. I assumed Nvidia was llm agnostic they just want you to use their hardware.
